Next years FA pitching crop is practically nil so you wouldn't want a rental to keep the price down. Nobody at this point is conceding anything as to gaining a playoff spot this early. I'm as guilty as anyone complaining about this team but I don't have a pitcher in mind that can be had. As much as the wild card makes the season exciting it effectively stops trading for the most part. The offense is just as much a problem but A-Gon is way down, same with Howie and Chase recently. Trayce has yet to adjust, Yasiel had shown signs lately but not now. SVS is a dud thus far ONLY thing we have is Corey. Any suggestions? Practical not comical please, I really want to know.
That post, although I'm pretty sure you really meant an exchange of ideas and suggestions, actually verbalizes just how handcuffed we really are, at least for the near future. Opinions differ greatly whether so bright or not. With a parade of duds and flameouts, and guys like Agon and Utley running on low fuel in their tanks, it would seem that trading is the only way to immediately fix certain spots. For sure, this is where the depth we hear so much about will come into play, but at best, assuming this depth is composed of not all Corey Seagers, will take some time to develop. IF they pan out. Hope. The window for FAs, which were definitely available, is slammed shut, and passing on all except damaged goods is a festering wound to date. I think, taking into consideration who the rumors are pointing at as possible acquisitions...Bruce, some Rays pitcher, getting Lucroy and Braun, (but don't give up the top prospects, blah, blah... how are we going to get them then?) is a true mystery or our own creation. Making lineups with Harper and Trout and Fernandez is silly, imo. I think it is frutless to even suggest where or what this FO would go or do. Until the cut and paste rumors start. Like the script reads, what else to do but wait and see if this " elite player" thing is the real deal or not. 31 days.
Yup, but at the same time, every time I see the words " win now " I picture Corey Seager in a Rays uniform
No you don't. None of us do. We were a pitcher and a reliever away and now we're more than half a team away and dropping. We have dumpster divers who believe they're smarter than everyone else and owners who really have next to no incentive to do anything more than wait until a bunch of high schoolers and dfa'd rejects miraculously become the second comings of Ted Williams and Sandy Koufax... I dont expect anything to be truly excited about, just more head scratcher moves that require lengthy explanations as to why... This flat out sucks and it's very difficult to take. Worse than McCourt.
Wow.... " Worse than McCourt"...think about that. Not in my wildest ( or anyone elses?) dreams would that be something we would actually be saying when these guys were hired? We see the spots about the 70's team with four (4!!!) 30 HR guys, and Lopes with 28...and possibly this season, with the biggest payroll ever, we could have six (6!!!) guys below the Mendoza line.
I know, bizarre, innit? Say what you want about McCourt, his wife, the lifestyle they led, the BK and the payroll stuff but he really was a fan at heart and actually did a lot to make the team and the DS experience better. Yeah sure, he should have left more dough in the till so we could have kept Santana but there was genuine excitement coming outta there during his tenure. If he had lasted and got the TWC deal sure, he'd get his daily manicures and travel on a BBJ but I'll bet you we'd also have Greinke, Hamels, Cespedes (whoever) et al and be licking our chops like wolves come the trade deadline....
OK..?Kersh on the 15 day dl...time for the depth to step up. We've heard a lot about them, so let's go depth guys!!!! The time is nowl
Duane Kuiper: "It was inevitable that the Giants were due for a correction to the way they are playing, and it is now. The Peavy reaction was upsetting, and I wouldn't like it if he did it to me were I playing behind him". Scumgarden will hit against A's tonight, to appease him, so the rumor is.
Kuiper, re CK/ LAD: " Don't really like it when great players go down. And they have enough to stay around and be there in September." Pretty cool, actually.
MLB Lineups @mlblineups 6/30 @Dodgers lineup at MIL Utley 2B Seager SS Turner 3B Gonzalez 1B Kendrick LF Puig RF Thompson CF Grandal C Maeda P Have to really be in a funk to hit behind the clueless wonder in the 6 spot
Thompson hitting in the middle of the order is a bad thing whether he's playing well or poorly. Because it means the guys that are supposed to be doing it are failing miserably. Thompson ain't that good. He's a solid athletic role player. And that's not an insult to him. I love having him on the squad. But he's not high on my future Dodger outfielder depth chart. He's a role player, imo.
As a fan, I want as much product to consume as possible. But the season is too long. We need to keep players on the field and consider reducing the number of games. Won't happen cuz $. But the sport is watered down. I wish there were a few less teams and games.
I recall some people saying they didn't believe in a Kershaw window of opportunity. Getting on the 15 day DL, even if only as a precaution, should be a warning sign that every player and team has a window. Let's not wait until it shuts completely.
No. This is the results of parents who try to live off their future in the present bankrupt their kids inheritance. As much as we hate taking our medicine it is the right thing. Ownership is building up the trustfund that previous owners looted in order to have a healthy and sane organization in the future. Now saying all that lets flip some of these little bastards for lucroy braun bruce.
