He's considerably better than Stanton; but that argument is different than what we're talking about.

Not sure a elite bat type of person would mess up team chemistry. IMO, Harper, yes. Trout, no, Stanton 50/50. Just because they are getting paid big bucks does not mean they are prima donna's. Kershaw is getting paid big bucks....he is not that. It also does not mean they didn't earn it. Stanton has put up 22+ hr each year....I would say he has earned his paycheck.
Well, i probaby would disagree. I would bet that their WAR over their careers is probably pretty close, but yes, that is a different discussion.

There's already been a report by Jon Heyman that some execs around the league feel Kasten's been laying the groundwork for a Harper addition.
Has had Harper's parents as his guests @ Dodger Stadium multiple times, of course there's an existing relationship there since Kasten played a role in getting Harper to DC.
Far as Stanton goes, who really knows?
He's got the big contract, but it doesn't run through his age 40 season and shit like that.
Wouldn't be shocked if LAD looked into it, if Miami were willing to kick in some money.
Stanton is a show and that has added value, a human HR derby unto himself which = $$$ and more attention for the org.
Just an extremely marketable player, hometown kid with a great clubhouse presence.
And with that said, Miami should probably keep that guy..flip the guys like Ozuna and Yelich..good players, but guys that the average Joe couldn't pick out of a crowd.
Marlins should keep Stanton and continue to build around him/market him as the guy to go to the ballpark to see

Zero evidence that they would trade for a big time ace type pitcher that is an FA rental like Yu.
Of course not zero evidence. Just like not zero evidence that they might consider Stanton.
The fact that they have not done what is being proposed in the past is NOT evidence.
That is just a dumb fact from old news that is being applied without analytical or critical thinking to a new future.
Your thinking should not be "what have the nerds done before" but "how do the nerds think".
This is a very different team than we have had, we are in a very different situation, the nerds have never been here before. They will apply their mode of thinking to the current situation and come up with the appropriate strategy. Not simply hold on to old strategies that do not fit the current model. That is not what they do or what they have ever done. Their strategies always are changing to fit the fresh model.
That is part of the key to moneyball. And the part that most people who think moneyball is about cheap hitters with high OBP and power fail to understand.

How Spanky described the current model that will be fresh when the FO looks into these big hitters coming up is which one fits their mindset the best.
But they also look for character in their players.
I dont know much about Stanton to be honest outside of his skills and stats.
Dont know if he is a good clubhouse guy or whatever.
The main issue I see is that he is a greater injury history than the other guys on the list.
But then again they starting to face injury issues too.

the difference for me being CK earned it as a Dodger just like JT and Belli and Seager will
its kind of their thing and while a trout kind of player would probably fit is it worth the money or the risk?
i meant earning it w this team btw, not that that is really a requisite for being on the club but we can all see what its worth right?
i'm all for picking up the right guy i just don't see the nerds spending or the need for it given these results

from day one the nerds have preached building the farm system
they're not going to abandon that to trade for anyone
a de leon here, a calhoun there, sure
but it would cost a minimum of 2 from verdugo, buehler and alvarez and there's no way the nerds would (nor should) do that
goes against everything they think and say
not to mention verdugo is waiting in the wings

Taylor the catalyst atop lineup of MLB's best team
    by Joshua Thornton | MLB.com — 8 hours ago
    taylor.png
LOS ANGELES -- To find the "catalyst" or "spark plug" in the Dodgers' lineup, look no further than to Chris Taylor, the leadoff man who has been a key cog during the club's historic season.

Taylor, a former fifth-round pick by the Mariners in 2012, has gone from batting .207 in '16 for the Dodgers to mashing 17 homers and posting a .303/.374/.540 slash line, forcing manager Dave Roberts to keep him in the lineup. Like Cody Bellinger, Taylor started the season in the Minors, but after Logan Forsythe fractured his big toe, Taylor was recalled on April 19, and a chance to test out his opportunity came. Taylor filled in for Forsythe at second, and he hit two homers while tallying five RBIs in 10 games in April.

Taylor worked with Dodgers hitting consultant Robert Van Scoyoc in the offseason to add a leg kick, and he made adjustments with his hands. Thus the transformation from fringe Major League player in the Mariners' organization to the leadoff man on the best team baseball began.

Immediately, Taylor started to see more balls jumping off the bat with his new-look stroke, and once he was able to get his timing down, he was ready to test it out.

"It's a little scary," said Justin Turner about changing a swing. "I think you come to a point where you're looking around [and] you're seeing guys driving balls all over the yard and they're going out, you kind of wonder what's going on and how come that's not happening to you."

Where Taylor's swing has helped him the most is hitting fastballs, as he has a .328 average with five homers and 12 doubles when making contact with heaters. Taylor has 92 batted balls 95 mph or higher, fifth most on the team, trailing Corey Seager, Bellinger, Turner and Yasiel Puig, according to Statcast™.

"He's able to time off the fastball and the offspeed and kind of maintain that position," said hitting coach Turner Ward. "He has a great idea what he wants to do at the plate -- that doesn't get talked about enough. He has a really solid approach. He's able to do things that young hitters are able to do. You kind of put all those things together and it helps create a good hitter."

Taylor's versatility has also served the Dodgers well. He has played most of his life in the infield, but he was moved to outfield to keep him the lineup and fill in with injury issues. The bulk of the 101 games Taylor has played have been spent in left field (48 games). But that could change soon with the return of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez looming, as Taylor could be shifted back to the infield to play at second base, with Bellinger moving to left field.

Taylor said he's been consistently taking grounders just in case he's moved back to the infield at any moment. But for now, he's just enjoying this season.

"I always had confidence in myself as a player," Taylor said. "I just got in the right opportunity, the right organization and things worked out for me."

Stanton would bat fourth or fifth on this team. That said, he is not coming and I don't want him. The Marlins would have to take back Gonzalez, Kazmir, and kick us 15 million dollars a year for the next ten years for me to want to do it. And I would not give Verdugo or Bueller.

    Not going to happen.

    The luxury tax is real
We are going to have to continue to pay Kershaw and eventually Seager, Bellinger, Etc.

I don't think MGT would have to give up the farm because of the contract. I could see a package of Alvarez/Barnes/Diaz/Smith being a starting point. I don't think MGT would do it because it would really mess up the chemistry but they could even entertain the idea of sending Grandal instead of Barnes. Remember Grandal is a FA at the end of next year. An article on Yahoo today suggested that Puig be one of the pieces in a Stanton trade. I would rather send Joc, but if Puig is required, send him.

Ok so all you 80's kids here will crack up at this quote from an article in MLBTR about the top rookies in MLB.

Talking about Barnes; "The hype may not be there for Barnes, yet he’s clearly among the reasons the Dodgers are able to form Voltron on what seems like a nightly basis."

    it's not happening
in addition to not wanting to give up prospects
there's no way the front office is going to dig themselves a hole with the luxury tax
if anything they'll be looking to cut cost
also, i seriously doubt the marlins new ownership team wants to do anything right away to alienate their (already schizophrenic) fan base

Stanton is toooooo damn expensive. And this current lineup works. No need for more firepower in my opinion, especially with more prospects on the up and up.

Pitching though. Can't really get enough of that.

    There is not a need.
But when you can get a player like that you go after him.
That is what championship caliber teams do.
I am not a fan of his injuries and inconsistent play the last couple years.
But he looks to be back now. And if he is back then he is the closest thing to Barry Bonds in the game.
If he is back he is a front runner to be the MVP for most of the years of his contract.
If this was Barry Bonds and the Marlins were the Pirates and we were in the position to get a player like Bonds the way the Giants did would we not go for it?
And Stanton is not 6 foot skinny Bonds who juiced up into a hulking freak. Stanton is a big boy in the Judge/Bellinger mold and entering into his full potential. He is also adds another strong arm to the OF.

When Gonzo is gone, Ethier is gone, and Carl Crawford is gone and all those pitcher salaries are gone the Stanton salary wont kill the budget. Not in LA.
Our team will be a juggernaut that wont need to add much of anything for years to come but minor tweaks.
Verdugo while nice will not be missed due to the massive impact that a Stanton will have in the lineup.
We are in the perfect position to deal for him.
We have the best combination of great prospects and lots of money.
And then there is the fact that we dont need him nor do we need the prospects much at this point.
But if we can keep piling up great hitters we will be ahead of the curve vs future opponents who try to match up to us and vs FA as we wont have as many needs going forward.

And for every cheap lucky strike like Taylor, and mid-rate level veteran gamble like Logan... there needs to be a superstar power move.
The nerds just did that for the pitching staff in Yu. If Yu pitches to his full capacity he is an ace.
So why would the nerds not do it again for the lineup with Stanton?
I would not miss Verdugo if we replaced his potential next 10 years with Stantons. Even his year 37 year where we will probably need to carry him like an Adrian or Ethier.
It would hurt more to lose Buehler, but we have a stacked pitching staff and would probably then try to resign Darvish and wait for Urias or the other young prospect pitchers to graduate. Either way Buehler would come in to a stacked staff and at best be a #4 or #5 pitcher.

And hey, maybe the new Mattingly/Jeter Marlins may want to bring in some ex Dodgers that Donnie liked or may like.
Joc, Logan, Ethier, and Adrian might need nice places to finish out their contracts.

The enemy, the main enemy are the NY Yankees.
If they can lineup Judge and Stanton next to all of their other good young players and all their prospects and cash they will be scary.
They all ready gonna be scary. But they are our main enemy going forward if we believe we are a NL Pennant winning caliber for the next few years of the Kershaw/Turner/Kenley era and into the Seager/Bellinger/Buehler, Puig or Urias era.
Our other enemies on a lesser scale are the Cub, Astros, Red Sox. But imagine Stanton on the Rockies next to Arenado?
He would probably hit 76 HR playing in Coors.
So it may be a good idea to get him on our team mostly to keep him from those other teams.
Then we wont need to worry about paying Harper 40M a year.
Plus some of the other guys in his class that we would go after are not playing very well like Machado.
