The only thing that will ease the pain is Ohtoni and maybe Stanton.

Yeah, this guy is not grounded in reality. Any Stanton trade is going to include 1 or 2 of Verdugo/Behuler/Alvarez to start. I agree that Miami will probably have to take back salary but they would be glad to do that in exchange for other/better prospects. So I could see a scenario where better prospects go back to Miami and both Gonzo and Kazmir are sent packin. Sucks cuz we are just going to have to wait.....possibly till mid Jan.....SUCK!!!!

That's another reason we need to trade for Stanton. Make that trade, and a number of our M.I.A.s will be back. Love it or hate it, that's the kind of thing you need to hash out with your Dodger brothers.

    lol
    an actual post on dodgersnation...

    Matthew Udewitz 11/21/2017

If it is true that Kershaw will opt out next year then it would make sense to trade Kershaw to the Marlins for Stanton. Plus two strong pitching prospects. And Vosquez if assume he can throw after surgury. His risk profile is similar to Darvish. They are rebuilding. Or also Steckenrider looks like a K machine and looks like gives a hit or walk an inning or both but Ks the rest with low HR and low ER vs ip.

    Long and short

Stanton plus pitching (Steckenrider, Kolek (TJ), Vasquez (TJ)), Cody Poteet (UCLA), Hock(Stanford), or Lillie)
For Andrew Toles and Kershaw plus minor leauge pitcher to be named later or Dennis Santana.

Marlins eat little of the contract for Stanton VS other suitors, plus with the TJ we take some risky pitchers.

There are one of two scenarios that will happen if the blue gets Stanton (they won’t):

    1. He tears both hamstrings and they’re stuck with that abysmal contract.
    2. He’s awesome, leads the team back to game 7 of the WS with a lead in the game, only to have it blown later.

Sorry to be that guy. I honestly don’t give a fuck what they decide to do this offseason.

Yeah, no shit, right? Reading about silly season, hot stove BS, thinking about other players and WHAM, back it comes and makes me want to log off and hide my sorrows from my kid.

Fucking Roberts, Jansen, Kershaw, cKocksucker umpires, inept offense trying to hit 8 run HR's in game 7............................!

Ran into a fellow Dodger fan in a restaurant last night.

Before I greeted him, I said, "let's not talk about it."

Like to think that's a sound policy, especially so close to a day when he should be giving thanks.

Agent believes Stanton has ability to make trade to Dodgers happen
by Daniel Starkand | Dodger Blue — 37 minutes ago

The Miami Marlins new ownership group led by Derek Jeter has made it clear that the plan to cut their payroll down, and because of that they are shopping the reigning National League MVP, Giancarlo Stanton, on the trade market.

Stanton has 10 years and $295 million remaining on his contract, which may make it tough to trade him as teams may not want to take on the entirety of that contract.

The San Francisco Giants are currently considered the favorites to land Stanton, as they have already made a formal offer to the Marlins, although the St. Louis Cardinals are also factors.

The darkhorse in the equation is the Los Angeles Dodgers, as Stanton has a full no-trade clause and many people close to him believe that he wants to play for the Dodgers, his hometown team that he grew up rooting for.

While the Dodgers have talked about cutting their own payroll to get below the luxury tax threshold, one Major League Baseball scout believes that if Stanton really wants to be a Dodger, he has the ability to make it happen because of his no-trade clause, via Buster Olney of ESPN:

“This is why we negotiate deals like this,” said an agent who does not represent Stanton, referring to Stanton’s no-trade clause. “He was good enough for the Marlins to give him that contract, and to give him the no-trade protection. He should use it.”

It’s true that Stanton has the ability to block a trade to any team not named the Dodgers if that’s what he wants to do, which could drive down the price it would cost the Dodgers to land him. But if the Dodgers don’t want to take on his contract then Miami will either need to eat some of it in a deal, or Stanton may still be in Miami when the 2018 season begins.

Stanton has not yet come out and said that his desire is to play only for the Dodgers if he is traded, so other teams in pursuit of him shouldn’t get discouraged yet. But if he does then things could begin to get a lot more interesting.

    2017 Review: Andre Ethier
by Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 9 hours ago

What better day than Thanksgiving to look back on Andre Ethier, who completed his 12th season with the Dodgers in 2017?

    What went right
Ethier hit two home runs in 38 plate appearances. Both home runs came as a pinch hitter, which tied for the team lead in that role even though Ethier was only active for the final month of the season.

Ethier’s second home run gave him 162 in his career, tied with Shawn Green for the most by a left-hander in Los Angeles Dodgers franchise history.

His 51 career postseason games set a Dodgers franchise record, surpassing shortstop Bill Russell’s previous mark. Ethier started twice in October, and in his first start — Game 3 of the NLCS against the Cubs at Wrigley Field — he was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Ethier drove in the Dodgers’ only run of Game 7 of the World Series with an RBI single in the sixth inning in what might have been his final at-bat with the team.

Trivia: Ethier’s three career postseason pinch hits is tied for the most in Dodgers history. Can you name the other three players Ethier matched?

    What went wrong
For a second straight season Ethier missed the first five months, this time dealing with a herniated disc in his back.

Ethier’s five-year contract was signed in May 2012, and was the first big transaction by the Guggenheim Partners ownership group, buying out what would have been five free agent seasons of a fan favorite in a time when the team needed to rebuild trust after getting dragged into the gutter by the literally bankrupt Frank McCourt.

In the end, the Dodgers paid $85 million for ages 31-35 of Ethier, who produced between 5.0 (Baseball-Reference) and 6.5 (FanGraphs) Wins Above Replacement during that span. That’s an average of between $13-17 million per win.

    Quotable
On the eve of the playoffs, Ethier provided one of the quotes of the year regarding the Dodgers’ postseason goals after winning 104 games:

“There are no banners hanging out there saying we’re NL West champions five years in a row. All the banners you see our there are World Series championships,” he said. “No one is going to remember in five years that we won 104 games if we don’t win the World Series.”

    2017 particulars
    Age: 35
    Stats: .235/.316/.441, 2 HR, 4 BB in 38 PA
    Salary: $17.5 million

    Game of the year
Ethier hit a game-tying pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Sept. 21, helping the Dodgers to a comeback victory on the day before they clinched their fifth consecutive National League West divisional title.

    Roster status
The Dodgers declined Ethier’s club option that would have paid him $17.5 million in 2018, instead paying him a $2.5 million buyout. Ethier is a free agent.

Whether he returns or not, Ethier was one of the longest-tenured Dodgers ever, and ranks among the top 20 in franchise history in games played, plate appearances, hits, doubles, home runs, runs batted in and walks. He posted a 122 OPS+ in his 12 seasons, made two All-Star teams, won a Gold Glove, and set an LA Dodgers record with seven walk-off home runs, including a major league record-tying four in 2009.

Ethier’s mark on Dodgers history is secure.
