The Yankees and Marlins have a deal for Giancarlo Stanton, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. The deal is still subject to Stanton’s approval, as the slugger has full no-trade rights. Several hours prior, Joel Sherman of the New York Post called the deal “virtually done,” noting the Marlins will receive second baseman Starlin Castro “plus good but not top prospects” if completed. Before that, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle had reported the deal as “close if not done.”

Get Yelich or Ozuna now. Take the Prado contract to make it happen.

We'll see if Stanton blocks it, still has to approve
If he doesn't, then obviously, he has to take some blame for not ending up with LAD
Other 2/3 of blame will go to the nerds and Jeter
Almost smells of McHale shipping Garnett to the Celtics
But nothing is done yet, I'm sure Stanton will want to see what LAD is offering and weigh in on that.

If approved by Stanton, nerds could turn towards McCutchen

Stole this from Twitter (might be a little dramatic until we see what the Dodgers do this offseason), but this is why the Yankees win championships and the Dodgers haven’t in 30 years.

The Yankees have won one WS in the past 17 years, and haven’t won their division since 2012. Better than us, sure, but to clump the past 30 years of the Dodgers into one is a bit unfair, and to claim the Yankees are “winning championships” is a bit outdated. This will be the reaction around the media and fans though, because whoever gets the biggest offseason name is always the WS favorite.

That said, we have no excuse to not get Stanton. How often does a top 5 bat ask to be traded... and to you? Shit, gotta make that happen.

Yeah I figured it was a bit dramatic before we know what the Dodgers do. If they get Yelich, Ozuna, or McCutchen with some pitching, then whatevs we’re all good.

Morosi saying Dodgers aren’t likely to make a last ditch effort to get Stanton... it’s pretty obvious, they were never interested to begin with.

A bit dramatic, but we still missed a huge opportunity. Yelich, Ozuna, McCutchen are not at the same level. I’m not sure we even go after any of those guys, getting an OFer isn’t a need for us, Stanton was just a special guy you go for when the opportunity is there.

And honestly, nor should they have been. Yelich or Ozuna would be nice (would rather have Darvish) and then get one of the big free agents next year.

After losing the WS like we did, this would have been a nice win. Fuck the Dodgers today.

This was their opportunity to get a jump on the 2019 class at a discounted price. It’s hard to picture us in on Harper next year, who will cost at least $10 million more per year than what we could have gotten Stanton at. This was pure dumb by the FO... the guy’s Twitter handle is Giancarlo818 for god sake, not Giancarlo212. This shit was too easy? Fuck the Dodgers, we needed a win.

Disagree that it isn't a need at all, but they need a starter and/or bullpen upgrades (re-signing or replacing Morrow) more, but they could use a better RH platoon partner than Kiké (I like him moving around the diamond, not just playing LF).

They should maybe check in on Machado before they do that, Orioles are taking calls on him. Much smaller salary demand in the immediate future and still a need for an impact righty bat. A Machado/Britton package is doable if the O's/Peter Angelos aren't all silly given the lack of team control in both of their cases, and the fact that Harper is losing a potential landing spot in NY thanks to Stanton and could fall into LAD's laps in a year. Machado with " rental status " should definitely be a tough acquisition for almost every team in MLB, so the pool of interested teams will be limited ( again). If LAD is committed to moving certain specs for a big impact righty bat, I could see that maybe getting done. Alvarez may have already been heading to Baltimore for Britton at one point, so they have a starting point.

I know you're not a fan of moving Turner off his 3B spot, but Machado is an upgrade over Turner defensively, he's that good. And Bellinger would do fine in CF, give us another plus athlete/plus arm out there. Maybe they'd feel apprehensive about Belli getting trucked by Puig, though, so maybe Belli goes to LF in this scenario and LAD run with Taylor/Joc and whomever else in CF. Ozuna and Yelich will be commanding big spec packages, so if LAD is even thinking about adding those two, they should also be looking at Machado..could maybe get Machado for less than Yelich/Ozuna, or around the same comp, given the team control both Yelich/Ozuna bring.
