“I wanted to keep the line moving, especially for some of the younger guys that are coming up. … To let them know, if you’re worthy, then you should get paid what you’re worth. That’s where I was coming from.”

if he gets injured, actually when is more like it, he better hope its not serious
or he just left 40 big on the table because of his own ego
but i'm sure all the big money catchers to follow will throw respect his way lol

He's ballsy and stupid. Cuban Machismo light, Miami-fied , a little tamer than the Pig's! It seems to be a real "thing". Turning down almost 40MM because the AAV was lower and his union bros would be hurt? PuhLEEESE! Someone is BS'ing, I mean, the dude has a wife, right? The Mets offer was probably fluff to get someone else to jump.

That, or he really does think he can kill it and get a better offer next year. Problem is, this ain't the NBA.

“You should get paid what you deserve,”

Nobody deserves anything much less multimillion dollar contracts you entitled pitch framer and ball handler.

    RF: Bellinger
    SS: Seager
    LF: Harper
    2B: Machado
    3B: Turner
    1B: Muncy
    CF: Verdugo
    C : Martin

Just sign Machado and Harper and everyone will roll with whatever happens.
No fan will be mad at ownership or the FO if the team fails after that.

    All positions are pretty set.
At catcher Martin and Barnes can hold it down until one of the many prospects emerges.
If Verdugo cannot stick CF you still have Joc/Taylor/Kike and one of those 3 is bound to have a big year. They are like Dodger lottery tickets. There is always one or two that pay off. Plus there are some prospects and there is always Toles.
When Turner loses his job at 3B to either Machado or Seager it will be Lux or Jeter Downs who will be ready to take the 2B spot.
So no more money needs to go into the offense for many years once they sign these two big FA.

No way the Dodgers sign Mehchado.. he was too proud about being the 'not going to hustle' kind of a player that is hard to sell giving $250-$300M.

I'm sure he knew he was a rental the second he learned of the trade. There has never been even a hint of an extension that I ever saw.

Amen. Friedman tosses the fan base a shitty/nostalgic bone and fans go looking for their old Martin jerseys. Same shit happened last year with Kemp

    • Olney is reporting that the White Sox and their presumed highest offer is 7 years $175M... If that really is the best out there, then about 29 other teams need to be coming back to the table here. Even if he is a D-bag that puts forth little extra effort, that is steal for a dude that's worst overall full season saw him slash .259/.310/.471 for a 3.4 WAR. I have a hard time seeing him sign for that though...
    • The Phillies were reportedly ready to backup the money truck for Harper, Keuchel and Kimbrel, but Rosenthal is saying not so fast on this one. The club had a good meeting with Harper and his representatives, but there are still a couple of balls in the air for him. This is also frustrating to hear if true, but there is a rumor out that is saying he is hoping for a California team to get involved as he really would like to remain in the area.
    • There were rumors that the Braves had jumped to the front of the Pollock sweepstakes, but those beliefs have died. The Braves are said to only be looking at the trade market and at players without draft pick compensation tied to them.
    • The talk around the Dodgers is the opinion that a lot of folks think they are done making moves this offseason. The feeling is that the team was only looking for buy low guys that would be considerable upgrades, not marginal ones. At two of the three positions of more pressing needs, the club has some of baseball's most highly regarded prospects in Keibert Ruiz, Will Smith and Gavin Lux that are all viewed as near MLB ready. With this FO's track record of hitting on who to keep and who to ship, this would make some sense of why they may be ok with entering the season with a couple of lottery tickets at those positions(also understandable since players being considered internally are not far removed from very good seasons). The other feeling for the Dodgers lackluster offseason is that they have nobody in the division pushing them to improve, plus a crop of near ready MLB talent with intriguing impactful upside. If it is true that they are done, it would be incredibly disappointing that they have decided to roll the dice on a multitude of players re-figuring their shit out against LHP'ing. I could honestly very easily live with Hernandez/Taylor at 2B and Barnes/Martin at C, but the OF was somewhere that they could have found a middle of the order bat that could make this team have an easier time within the division and potentially make for less holes to be filled at the deadline.

Yeah I don't know about 100% on the ownership. They aren't out there choking in the postseason year after year. Times like now, with Harper out there dangling and everything pointing to LAD/Harp being a match, one can't help but to vent about ownership. But then I always have to remind myself that Kershaw, and to a lesser degree Kenley, have done their share to fuck us over. Imagine a reality where Kershaw takes his performance up a notch in the postseason or even only performs up to par for his standard, basically what you expect from guys of his ilk historically..Dodgers probably have a couple WS wins over the last 6 years and in that reality none of this Harper shit really matters.

Does the offense also shit the bed in the post? Sure, but we all know what top notch pitching means to this game in October historically and Kershaw has let us down. So Kershaw ( and Kenley) deserve to continue to be highlighted as a part of the group that's at fault. Those two have earned their cut of the pie. I fully understand why the FO is still engaged with CLE for Kluber and showing more interest there as opposed to the Harper front. But of course, we all want something exciting to watch. Something exciting that isn't literally a clown, that is.

Wilmer Flores is closing in on deal with an NL West club. Multi-position dude that can swing it a bit and makes A LOT of contact, but doesn't walk a ton. DRC+ has had him as a roughly average to above average hitter every season since the 2014, but his defense has hurt him. For his career defensively, he is pretty mediocre all over the IF, but he has had a rough go as of late at SS especially. He has generally hit LHP'ing very well up until this past season, but if his bat returns to 2016-2017 levels, he would be a very interesting 2B candidate. Not saying the Dodgers are the ones in on him as his versatility would fits a need for every team in the division. If it is the Dodgers, this could also open up a spot to move Taylor or Hernandez in a deal if need be.

UPDATE: He signed a 1 year deal with the D'Backs. They may not be as good as they were, but they could be an interesting club.

    From Heyman
"phillies, nats and chisox are the only 3 teams known to be in on bryce harper. but fwiw, word is, several teams are said to be waiting in the wings. the word "waiting" suggests this may yet take awhile."
Also mentioned that the rumored White Sox offer is nowhere close to real... I swear to god this shit needs to hurry the fuck up and be over.
