I just dont trust Manny to be a reliable middle of the order force. He was so underwhelming for us compared to his Baltimore production. I'd love to get .290/.360/37 bombs from the RH side of the plate with stellar defense. But I dont know if that's him at Dodger Stadium.

I hate continuing to go into every season with Turner and perhaps Seager the only hitters I trust.

I know Harper has been inconsistent too, but I feel like he's going to put it all together. I love the way he goes about his business plays, and isnt reliant on a bandbox.

No to Pollock. We should've kept Puig if that was the case, plus I'd rather play Verdugo over Pollock. I hope we pull Machado and make a trade for Kluber. As of last week the Dodgers were still in discussions.

Same here, but I haven't heard much talk about Matt Holliday at all this off-season.

    Tonight, a wolf moon.
An omen...? Why do so many people give a shit how much any individual will cost? These guys are swimming in big bucks. Like Uncle Scrooge would do laps in his cash in the comic book when I was a kid.
I think many actually are more into the bargains they can come up with, rather than signing the players who can finally get us there....which, obviously they suck at. Still with the FO taint slurping, though. Never say die.
I 've read over and over when I've questioned this previously, that money must be cleared to be able to get the best when they become available.Well, hasn't it been cleared to a major degree? That reasoning is turning out to be a big, steaming crock to date. The warranty is running out on that shit, imo. Will enough cash EVER be cleared and available to make the big signing? Hasn't it been proven that the formula has yet to get the ring?
I guess the criteria has changed, and being division winners and getting to the series, despite losing each year, and raking a larger profit margin especially is more important. So close, but no cigaro. Nope.
The prediction in the posted article that we are projected as a 10 wins less going in to 2019, I find pretty alarming, but maybe premature considering there is time left. And it's a slam dunk the rest of the NLW will suck we know.
    I sure hope so.

Dodgers, White Sox discussing Joc Pederson
by Connor Byrne | MLB Trade Rumors — 10:01 am PT

The Dodgers are discussing outfielder Joc Pederson in potential deals, and the White Sox are among the teams they’re talking to, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. It’s unclear, though, whether the two sides are making progress in those conversations.

Speculatively, trading Pederson could further open up room in LA for free-agent center fielder A.J. Pollock, whom the team is pursuing. And essentially swapping the lefty-swinging Pederson for the right-handed Pollock would enable the Dodgers’ lineup to become more balanced, which is reportedly among their offseason objectives. At the same time, though, waving goodbye to Pederson would mean losing a productive, affordable player who’s under arbitration control through the 2020 season. He’ll earn a reasonable $5MM this year after avoiding arbitration earlier this month.

While the 26-year-old Pederson has never been effective versus left-handed pitchers, who have held him to a woeful .181/.266/.317 line since he debuted in 2014, it has been a different story against righties. Most recently, Pederson posted an overall .248/.321/.522 line (126 wRC+) in 2018 with 25 home runs and 2.7 fWAR over 443 plate appearances. Despite his limitations against same-handed hurlers, Pederson has approached or exceeded 3.0 fWAR in three of the past four seasons. That type of production would be welcome in Chicago, whose outfield ranked dead last in fWAR (minus-1.2) in 2018. The unit has since lost one of its regulars, now-Ray Avisail Garcia, who was merely a replacement-level player last season, though it did add Jon Jay in free agency. Jay had a subpar 2018 in his own right, however, and hasn’t offered particularly strong production over the past few years.

Jay’s now part of a group which also includes Daniel Palka, Adam Engel and Leury Garcia, though all three of those outfielders registered underwhelming results last year. Fortunately for the White Sox, they do have a premier outfield prospect in Eloy Jimenez, whom they figure to promote early in the season and who could make a significant impact from the get-go. But Jimenez’s presence isn’t going to prevent the White Sox from trying to upgrade elsewhere in the grass, evidenced by their interest in Pederson and their pursuit of free-agent standout Bryce Harper.

    here's my problem with machado
his half season with us should have been a time where he played with the most fire and been on his best behavior
how's he going to act after he gets a huge guaranteed paycheck?
what if he dogs it then? what recourse would roberts have? how would manny react?
now to be fair, harper has been criticized a few times for not hustling
but -- and maybe it's just the eye test (or racist) -- but i see a fire and passion with bryce that i don't see with manny
bryce seems to want to win a world series, badly
manny seems to be good either way as long as he gets paid
and while the common fan's reaction would be somewhere between meh-to-yeah,cool if manny re-signed
they would all be jumping up and down if we got harper
plus, if you're going to (presumably) dole out all the money it would take to get manny, why wouldn't you just pay a little more for (imo, the better player) harper?

Lol Is it safe to say that MLB's offseason has officially jumped the shark when a cat named Turtleneck has the scoop?

We should of but we didn't so Pollock at his price is a nice alternative.
Pollock is a stable veteran which WS teams need.
Getting Pollock frees up Verdugo as an asset to be traded for Realmuto who is a huge upgrade at another position.
Realmuto will be pursued in trade by rivals, grabbing him helps the Dodgers twofold.
Also trading for players from the Royals like Whit.
Getting Manny makes a lot less sense if its just Manny.
But if we also upgrade the offense around Manny with Realmuto and Pollock then you have a balanced lineup.

    CF: Pollock
    2B: Seager
    3B: Turner
    SS: Machado
    C : Realmuto
    RF: Bellinger
    1B: Muncy
    LF: Joc/Kike

As much as we deride the platoon there should be room for at least one spot in the lineup to be platooned.
We have the perfect platoon in Joc/Kike in LF. That combo posts Max Muncy type number and is great as a big hacker at the end of the lineup.

I don't like the idea of Pollock either. Going to be another platoon with his history, even worse when he gets injured again.

The Harper situation is infuriating. He is clearly the best player available, we're one of the wealthiest franchises in the sport, and we have no apparent interest in signing him. If you're not going to spend on him, who would/will you ever spend it on? Sadly it would probably be the same scenario if Trout were available. As a fan, that's a pretty depressing future to look forward to.

If we are able to retain Machado or sign Harper, I'd rather just find a platoon partner for Joc so we can get his clutch home runs in the post

#Braves might also be talking to Dodgers about Joc Pederson, who checks boxes — could bat
cleanup (at least vs. RHP), good defense, 2 yrs of affordable control. Not perfect fit (he’s not RH),
but hits for power vs RH (24 HR, .556 slug%); could use Camargo, Duvall, Culberson vs LH
