Duarte is now reporting that the Dodgers and Pirates have had extensive talks regarding Starling Marte... I swear if they were to make this deal.... I wrote an offseason primer of OF trade targets and then deleted it after I wrote a shit ton about Starling Marte and realized he was like the third most realistic option, but felt there was no chance the Pirates moved him.

I'd take Marte over Pollock any day of the week but again...in addition to Harper/Machado...not instead of

    RF: Marte/Bellinger
    CF: Pollock/Marte
    SS: Seager
    3B: Turner
    C : Realmuto
    2B: Muncy
    1B: Bellinger/Freese
    LF: Joc/Pollock
Bench: Freese, Kike, Taylor, Barnes, and Russell Martin?

That's a good offense. This is more Dodgers Way than the lineups we have been putting up.
Speed up front, best hitters in the middle, free swinging mashers after them. Perfect for run manufacturing.
Defensively the only concern is Muncy at 2B.
Luckily we have Kike and Taylor who are perfect as defensively replacements for Muncy late in games.
Joc can maybe go to the bench and Muncy moves to 1B and Bellinger to the OF while Taylor or Kike come in at second.
Its so versatile you even have two catchers and Barnes can go to the minors at any time for an Edwin Rios or an Andrew Toles.

I think Marte and Pollock are both more sure things than Verdugo for 2019.
We really do not know if Verdugo will be up to being the leadoff hitter the team needs.
Marte and Pollock are both good at the top of the order and have proven it now as veterans.
Marte will be under contract for relatively cheap and Pollock would come in at a little more than that.
Both are bargains and are the type of players this team is lacking.
I understand wanting to see Verdugo flourish but the team has been to the WS twice in a row.
We have seen our young players choke. The team needs more veterans in their prime.
If the Dodgers don't go after Harper and don't want anything to do with Machados lack of hustle in their clubhouse then bringing in these two guys for the cost of 1 Machado is not a bad move.

And if you have to flip a Verdugo to solidify the C spot then so be it. Our young catchers will learn from pros like Realmuto and Martin.
Plus if you can get Bellinger to split at least half his time at 1B you will see him mash a lot more.
Having him play some RF instead of CF is also easier on him. CF is a burden because it is a leadership in the outfield.
While in RF he can showcase his skills and grace in the field. Marte has a great arm and can play anywhere in the outfield.
A 4 man OF rotation of Pollock, Marte, Joc and Bellinger is a lot of speed and defense with plenty power all balanced nicely.
Specially with Joc as your 4th OF and Kike as your 5th bringing massive power strokes off the bench.

Would be nice if getting Marte also meant he came along with closer Felipe Vazquez.
And if we can't get Realmuto from the Marlins maybe burning a Verdugo and a few other prospects for a top notch closer like Vazquez a leadoff hitter with great speed and a good arm like Marte as well as serviceable catcher like Cervelli is a good deal.

Marte..Mr. 80 game suspension for PEDs literally used a steroid. Must mention that much about him. If it's a righty OF bat they're after, I'd rather have Pollock than Marte. I don't know that Marte just hasn't been caught again yet.

Not sure if Duarte really knows anything anyway, I guess

I think we’re at the beggers can’t be choosers part of the offseason. I’d take Marte I guess.

Wish I was a fan of a big market team like the Phillies or the Mystery Teams, those guys might get real free agents

I don't think Marte and Pollock would necessarily be mutually exclusive, especially if they are looking at trading Joc.

Love spending all offseason rotating between 3 win outfielders for no reason

There is a lot to like in Marte. He would be a solid nab for CF and he has spent most of his career between a 3.5 - 5 WAR player, plus he is a solid CF'er. He has also has got a very low AAV of 5.1M this season with two club options for 2020 and 20121. I would like him a whole lot more than Pollock if that is what it came down to.

If PED user Marte is a last resort sort of option like PED user Yasmani was, fine. They had to dump Kemp's primadonna ass on the Padres for the shit he was up to behind the scenes. At the end of the day, these guys are going to play for some team out there. Felt the same about Braun when he was close to replacing Puig. Puig sucked enough to say the hell with it, bring on Braun

Pollock might not even get Lorenzo Cain money.
He might be had on a make-do type of deal.
I really want Marte though, that is the kind of speed up top we are desperate for.

:rolleyes:I don’t mind pollock one 1 year to 2 year Grandmal money with an option 3rd year. Because this regime ain’t going to after Harper or Machado due to years so we are back to the days of trying to solve the puzzle and taking chances which usually cost more in the long run.

Cheap ass ownership fuck them imo opinion

    In this case

    Pollock
    Marte
    Vazquez
    Harrison

And fuck it let’s get Villar

Because if we go into the season as is it’s going to be a very long losing season of should of could of type of crap.

I am grading our off-season as. D minus for now and possibly an F

According to the shredder for top 10 RF, we traded #7 and Bryce comes in at #5.

    yeah there's a reason for that ⅓ cost <harper
    he's ⅓ the player
he'll produce ⅓ of what bryce does
and he'll play in ⅓ the games
harper is also better against lhp (as mouse alluded)
never said he'd be part of a platoon
said his injury history creates a platoon situation -- once he's injured it'll be a platoon replacing him
and it's not a matter of it he gets hurt, it's when
    hasn't played a full season since 2015

how is pollock high ceiling yet verdugo is an unknown (racist)
and now you're saying his injury history might possibly create a platoon, make up your mind fkag
$5 side bet taylor has a better year than pollock, regardless of where they play...

    based on what?
marlins have yet to budge and they don't have to trade him
but as the trade deadline approaches it might be a different story
