Battle in the near future dumb ass cheap owners

    MLBPA Hires Jerry Crasnick
January 25th, 2019 at 10:00pm CST • By Jeff Todd
Long-time journalist Jerry Crasnick has an intriguing new gig, with the Major League Baseball Players Association announcing his hiring. He’ll serve as senior advisor for player, agent, and media relations, working alongside just-promoted director of communications Chris Dahl.

It came as a major surprise last year when Crasnick’s tenure with ESPN was brought to a close. He was a fixture in the baseball reporting community and had enjoyed a productive, a 15-year run at the sports media giant. Over the years, Crasnick provided a trove of insightful hot stove journalism; he also reported quite a few items that were cited on this website.

With the move, Crasnick will take up a role at the MLBPA at quite an interesting time for the union and its members. Effectively addressing the suboptimal developments in the sphere of player compensation will obviously require more than new collective bargaining ideas and willpower at the negotiating table. It’ll also mean laying the groundwork for leverage by performing nuanced public relations work.

MLBTR offers a tip of the cap to Jerry for all his outstanding reporting over the years and wishes him well in his new pursuit.

All I know is if the Madres sign a Harper and or Machado I will be done as a fan and move on It’s fucking ridiculous that a smaller market team jumps and the bigger market teams are greedy

    Guys, we'll be fine.

There's always next year when Arenado is a free agent...

Or the next year when Trout is a free agent...

Or the next year when Kris Bryant is a free agent...

    Or the next year...

It's always been my contention that you only get so many shots at the ring, then it becomes someone else's shot for it. We've been losers extraordinaire at this, in spite of the excuse maker's drone that" we are an elite team, and have been there two years running...and were close for others".
It amounts to this, what we have now, and is not only infuriating, it's flat out sad.
We edged out CO, just barely, and if these other teams vastly improve, I don't know if we get another crack at it.
Remember that the NLW has to suck.
All in all, considering what we have NOT achieved, and the shit show we are witnessing this off season, our run very well be so over, and Darth's much maligned " Fucktard Geniuses" sig may be the only consistent truth about this team, aside from blowing it for over half a decade.

Not with this ownership group. Kasten is in peak Braves' form.
Arenado, Trout and Bryant have a better shot at suiting up for the Lakers.
Time for MLB to save the Dodgers, the way they saved the Yankees from Steinbrenner. Hell, that's not even an option.

    Sports don't work that way.
That is not how we won in 88.
It's not how the royals won.
    I re
member how folks used to hate that some teams would win by buying all the most expensive talent.
At least that is how Dodgers fans used to feel before Fox and McCourt ruined the old dodgers way.

It really makes a lot of sense for the Padres to be in on Machado since they have the payroll flexibility for the foreseeable future and they have a spot for him. Going after Realmuto is where things get weird. They already have an ok catcher and one of the top prospects at the position that is basically ready. Getting Realmuto isn’t like a “we’re contenders now” moment as their pitching is really bad and the prospects they have for it aren’t exactly ready. So they’re going to trade for the remaining two years of Realmuto control when they’re probably not real contenders for 3? I mean... more power to ya, but maybe get some pitching instead.

Yeah, huh? nailed it. I was being ironic...or at least trying to be lol

This front office doesn't operate like that, but we keep tricking ourselves into believing each off-season that we are going to be in the hunt for the marquee free agents. This front office is much more about value, developing talent and making mid-season trades.

    agree 100%
mejia is a top catching prospect who's done really well in milb
swapping him for realmuto might make them better today, but hurts them in the future and as you alluded does not transform them into instant contenders
getting machado makes sense for them
getting realmuto reeks of desperation and is possibly preller's childish way of trying to stick it to us

    from hill:
    • “I mean this is coming from an unbiased opinion but it sounds like it’s bias because being with the Dodgers, I feel like we have the best starting rotation in baseball. It definitely speaks to Rick Honeycutt and his ability to communicate with each and every one of us and give us the game planning and the skills we need to go out there and execute for every single outing. Dealing with the personalities that we have in the starting rotation is something that he does very well. Every single guy in that rotation comes to work every single day. You hardly see them in the locker room because they’re doing something. They’re either in the video room game planning or looking at how they can get better.”

I'm in the group that's looking at ownership. The front office is what it is without an ownership group that's willing to take the leap on studs in their prime. They decided to spend on Greinke in his prime before this front office was in place..guess you could say Adrian was in his prime as well which was Kasten's baby, but it looks like that was just to revive the rotting corpse that McCourt left

Turner coming along and doing what he's done, much appreciated..however, his age likely hurt his market while at the same time making this ownership group smile from ear to ear. Another cheap buy.

We saw slippage at 3B this year..it's going to be so awful to see Arenado, perhaps the most spectacular defensive 3B ever, out there as a FA next offseason and nothing come of it. LA's own Nolan Arenado will be playing for the Yankees or something. Dodgers will just move Seager to 3B and say " tahdaaaah "

    lol marlins
not letting interested teams negotiate beyond this year is stupid
would have to think padres wouldn't deal mejia w/o some certainty
then again preller so who knows
    don't care really tbh
might if we were a big market team

    Joe Frisaro ✓@JoeFrisaro
Latest on J.T. Realmuto. #Marlins talks heating up with multiple teams still in play.
    #Padres #Dodgers #Braves #Astros #Reds #Rays Also, interested clubs not getting
a window to negotiate long-term deal with J.T. Hard to handicap who has inside edge.

Lol Gonna hide behind Seager 2 years in a row, at least. Watch.
Pass on the stud free agents this offseason, but pump up Seager's return as a " stud addition ".
Then next year they'll be " in the market to improve at 3B " and just move Seager to 3B and sell fans on that too.
The hat trick..Kersh and Buehler blow their arms out at the end of 2020, and who replaces them as ace of the staff? That's right..Seager.
Rounding the bases and now heading for home..Corey Seager will replace Dave Roberts @ manager in 2022.
And then of course with Seager's big payday looming, he'll be traded for Puig, wherever he is, because they always have to bring guys back and pander to fans.
Somehow, I don't think this shit would be going on if the Dodgers still played in New York.
Of course, don't let any of this despicable shit distract from the likelihood that LAD will have had their asses whipped in the World Series a few more times during this period

“A.J. Pollock said he had his eye on the Dodgers all offseason. He wanted to play in LA. Asked if he would be OK platooning, he said he prefers to play every day but would be cool with it. So he said all the right things.“ from Jorge Castillo on Twitter
