BREAKING NEWS: MLBPA has submitted plans to the owners formally requesting the Universal adaption of the DH in both leagues, a 3 batter minimum for pitchers and a 26 man roster among other items. The DH is by request to be enacted as early as THIS season. There has been more movement for this by the owners in recent years and could have some chance of getting done(though I think 2019 is outta the question).

I really hate the DH. There are plenty good points to be made about it in terms of balance of rosters, economics, injuries, etc. But it is NOT real baseball. At least from my perspective as a fan. I'm not the authority.

The three batter minimum is interesting. It became very frustrating as a frequent guest of Dodger Stadium to quickly get through six or seven Innings and then sit there for an additional two hours it felt like.

Obviously they want both rules to work together in improving the pace of play

Knew this was coming. Guys like Berkman being punished and missing out the hall because they played in the NL and in the field. Playing field is even now.

Wonder if LAD would discuss taking a flyer on Miggy now. Under contract for 5 more years, DET kicks in some cash and gets a solid spec or two for their rebuild. They gotta do something

A lot has changed since then and it is a different tech industry. It's Boulder, Broomfield, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins now that are absolutely exploding. The new Google campus in Boulder has brought a ton of wealthy Californians to the area that have then branched off into other parts of the industry. Plus now Amazon and Apple are doing the same thing and building their own little campuses around Boulder. Colorado lived and died by oil and gas as admittedly that is all we had, but it has diversified now and everyday another industry is looking at Colorado as a potential landing spot. Any place can boom or bust of course, but Colorado has done a much better job getting prepared than it was even just 5-10 years ago. Major corporations are moving headquarters here since it is cheaper than California and better than living just about anywhere else. Texas has been a major competitive market for us, but companies are even leaving there for Colorado due to us not being a terrible place to live... like Texas is. I know it sounds like I am drinking the Kool-Aid, but Colorado has done a good job of finally building itself an incredibly strong foundation for it's future.

Also, yeah the fanbase is still really fucking stupid and they hate Californians even more now.... but this new front office they have is pretty sharp and the fans are pretty pumped about the team. When your economy is going through a boom of implants AND your sports team does well in unison, it is a great thing for your product and can already see a rabid fan base growing.

It is honestly dumb to not have the DH at this point. You don't pick up a bat anymore between high school and AA, with even a lot of coaches in HS choosing to DH the pitcher for safety concerns. Pitchers are getting worse and worse at the plate due to this and it is only going to be a select few that really can do it all. Just adapt it and get it over with. They are only delaying the inevitable.

The reasons are there. But, it's a shame that kids don't pick up a bat during the years you mentioned. It's baseball. You go out in the field and you pick up a bat. I prefer that

Obviously there is too much at stake health-wise and financially. Everybody is trying to find their core competency in whatever they do and specialize in that. For pitchers, they get paid to pitch.

I'm not raising my fist at a cloud or trying to put the blame on kids.

My only point is, it is one of the few evolutions in the game that doesnt make it more fun or preserve its integrity.

I’m ok with all 3. Big DH fan, the 3 batter minimum thing seemed inevitable, should be regular season only though, and the 26 why not

I would literally rather have Ryu or Greinke at the plate with The bases loaded in game 7 of the World Series than Cody Bellinger.

I like watching pitchers who give a shit or have talent

The pitcher role has changed so much over the decades. I'm not sure any starter will ever hit the 300 win mark. The receiver and closer role has taken on so much more importance that the DH in the NL just makes sense.

To change a rule this late in the offseason that could cause you to go after a player that would be your DH or a position where you might have a DH candidate doesn't make sense.

On every game including the playoffs and WS the home team manager gets to pick when he turns in his lineup if the game will be a DH game or not.
If the home team wants DH then that is a DH game.
If the home team does not want the DH then the away team has to play without the DH and their pitcher has to hit or the manager has to learn how to manage with or without a DH.
This mitigates any of the two leagues advantages really fast.
The main advantages wont be your players but how well your manager and GM adapts to the other leagues rules.

Imo save it for the work stoppage that is looming and add it as part of a package with higher raises for the amateur players coming through the pipeline

This way hopefully the mlpa will move on and not cause an affect. As it is players that haven’t proven shit get big money versus our own collegiate/ high school get peanuts

I'm ok with all 3 as well. The 3 batter minimum should go double in the postseason, that's actually where we need it the most.

Isn’t it just to fix pace of play? Games in the regular season should be under 3 hours I support that, but I feel like in the playoffs it should be whatever it takes to win. If you burn a reliever on one guy, you don’t have him again the rest of the game.

I’d also support being able to bat any great player one time out of turn every game, so like if the Angels are down 4-2 in the 8th and the 6 hitter is up with a guy on and two outs they can swap Trout into that spot and get him an extra AB. It would make the biggest stars more noticeable and make them more valuable.

The 3 batter rule helps pace of play, but also helps pace of gay. Bringing a pitcher in to face one batter is gay.
