    One of the first baseball games I ever saw in Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ. Saw Johnny Antonelli and the NY Giants beat Newk 1-0. Some guy named Mays hit a shot into the light tower.
    Brings a tear to my eye.
    Not many of The Boys of Summer left.

    So after all this talk about the free agency not working anymore, Manny, at least, seems to have gotten what he wanted.

    Only a matter of time before all the other FAs get signed.

    He got exactly the team he wanted.
    He wanted the team that would pay him like Mike Trout and he found that team.
    Only shitty teams trying to make a splash do that.
    Legit franchises like NY and LA would not do that.
    In SD he can dog it all of his career and nobody will care.
    It won't show up on sportscenter.
    Manny can be Manny and be surrounded by dozens of adoring Padre fans.

    The Padres have an incredible farm system and adding Machado makes them a threat sooner rather than later. Tatis and Machado is gonna be an incredible 2/3 for years. They’ll be a playoff team in 2020 or 2021.

    If we were a fringe team we would be saying the same things.
    But the Dodgers are already a playoff team, a WS team.
    They added Machado last year and it did not get them over the hump.
    Machado is not an over the hump kind of guy.

    I guess there's no possibility that Manny rakes and it all comes to fruition in the near future for them with the pieces fitting in successfully with one another ?
    And like Diablo wrote, at least they're trying. What you mentioned is a foundation to definitely build on.
    Guess we'll see him 19 × or so...wonder how he'll do against us?

    I hate agreeing with VRP (I really do hate it), but the Padres are in a good position. In the Baseball Prospectus Top 100 they have 3 position players in the top 20 (Tatis, Urias, and Mejia), with Hosmer and Machado that locks up their infield for the foreseeable future. On top of that they have 6 pitchers in the Top 100 prospects including the number one LHP prospect in Gore. Their team will be good, the only question is how good.
