I feel like we were The Boras Bitch in order to drive the price up on the Phils... SMH

 

When there were rumors the Dodgers were not offering a long term deal, I knew our chances were toast.

Okay, let’s move on.

 

If we drove the price up great we did our part. Well now we can move on

 

13 years, $330M no opt outs apparently.

Yea, i'll take a hard pass on 13 years, better off doing the same money over like 8 years. Given they are in a similar market to LA, 8/330 or something.

What the hell happened? 13/330 with no opt outs? Machado crushed that contract, and (somehow) landed on a better team.

 

Yeah, OK. Now the Phils have a little extra flexibility for Trout around the corner.

 

Either Harper always liked the idea of playing in Philly, or Boras just worked him over. Boras can wipe his hands, make commission and be done with it. Meanwhile, if Harper had a 4/$150 type deal on the table, that would have destroyed the deal he took.

 

Not worried about the Phillies at this point but huge let down for us. Even with Harper I thought lineup took a nosedive after the 4 spot. Another year of "what-ifs" with Bellinger, Muncy, Taylor, Barnes being relied upon to lengthen a lineup with only 2 real consistent hitters (Seager and Turner, who both miss time to injury). Looks like another year of getting worse.

And yes, I would've given him the same deal Philly gave him. The Dodgers obsessed with short term, but if you're paying him the same amount anyways, who cares? It helps in terms of AAV. Just optics and pride with these guys, imo.

 

It is very weird. No opt-outs and it is said to be front loaded as well. He claimed to have wanted security over all else, but even an opt out allows security and if the contract is front loaded he could be helping the team by opting out eventually and reworking the remaining contract. I am not going to lie, seeing the length and overall number is frustrating. If the Dodgers really were offering close to $200M over 4-5 years, you can make the remaining 130M over 8-9 palpable.

 

It's all pride with this ownership and FO. The deal Harper got was easily workable.
