Not sure if anyone chose to listen tonight, but the Padres announcers were shitting all over the Dodgers. Mocking them for losing in the World Series, saying that their run is coming to an end and that they’re in trouble as Kershaw and Buehler aren’t close to ready and that’s all they have in the pitching staff. Then their MLB regular lineup got stifled by Maeda and one of their main starters got bamboozled by a lineup with 4 regulars, 2 platoons and 2 MiLB’ers. So they switched to talking about the Padres getting ready to overtake the Dodgers with their MiLB talent on the way and how the Dodgers depth wasn’t what it used to be... they were still kinda enjoying things, then Dustin May came in. Their tones were getting more subdued and then in his last inning, the PbP guy sighs and goes, “gah, we’re gonna see this guy this year aren’t we?” And the color commentor(Tony Gwynn Jr, btw)gave a very dejected response of “if not this year, we certainly will next year”. It was pretty funny as they quickly realized that Dustin May is pretty legit and while they are building through a fantastic farm, the Dodgers have already done that and continue to bring up more above average/impact players. It was cool to listen to as they were really impressed. May went 3 and K’d 3, the only base runner was a Margot IF hit that Barnes couldn’t get to from behind the plate. He was also once again living in the mid 90’s with the FB.

Honestly, the Dodgers should be made fun of for being chokers. Our run if automatic NL West wins could come to an end, as we had to play 163 games to win it last year and ownership is content in treading water/getting worse.

That said, the Padres haven't been relevant in like 12 years and there's no guarantee they'll be perennial contenders. Their farm is great but the Dodgers have a good farm too and a few guys under 25 who have already shown they can play in the big leagues like Corey, Cody, Julio, etc.

I also have a feeling the Machado marriage will end in a messy, bitter divorce

Dodgers have about 7 starters better than any San Diego starting pitcher.

Which is what makes a lot of this pretty funny. They act like they are ready to make the jump, but they just do not have the pitching needed to be legit contenders yet. They have the potential, but they are going to need at least one of their specs to come up and not underperform before anointing themselves the new NL West powers.

    agreed
only way they win games is by outslugging the other team
not going to happen too often against the teams/staffs they'll be facing

Is it possible that the Dodgers will actually K more this year than last?
Wow...like square one up once in a while...the law of average has to kick in sooner or later doesn't it? Even accidentally?
    Strikeouts machines.

There was a piece the other day saying that Taylor felt off for the entirety of last season and that he was putting in extra work in the offseason to get right. He is not looking the part thus far, but according to him, he feels a lot better. We will see if it is spring training BS or the truth here quickly enough. I have liked what I have seen so far from Hernandez, lots of hard contact from the new swing. only thing that is bothering me is that he has gotten SUPER pull happy. I can't remember him being like this before, but it really looks like he is trying to take everything to the left side.

Watching Geena the last three games is underwhelming. Contact is either minimal or non- existent.
    Looks done, AB anyway.

There was an interesting article yesterday about how after Brad Miller's breakout season, he played the next two years REALLY banged up and ended up needing surgery like Seager had on his hip. He's saying all the right things now, but he has also looked damn impressive. It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers find a place for him as he has a few more days before he can opt out of his MiLB deal with the club and the Dodgers have an open 40-man spot.

I love Heywood Jablomi on the opposition.
Imo, he's a a very lucky dude he makes the money he is paid.
Just don't get him as worth what he gets.
