They said it on ESPN last night, logic says they need to go all-in on a high-leverage reliever (possibly 2).

Brad Hand would be the ideal from the left side (and if they are going to go big on one, I think we'd all prefer the lefty).

There are obviously plenty of options from the right side that would be at least moderate upgrades on Baez.

    Rumors
    • The feeling around the league is that there is going to be a significant run on high end RH relievers at the deadline by the AL teams in the hunt fueled in large part by the Yankees acquisition of Edwin Encarnacion. The feeling is that RH arms are going to come with a premium thanks to the club being so RHH heavy that competitors will need to prepare for such a matchup.
    • The media seems to be pushing for a Max Scherzer trade as the Nats fell back after a hot streak got them into the WC conversation for a week or so. No real speculation on who should pursue, but if you are the Dodgers, you gotta make an effort here. Starting pitching is not the clubs problem, but the trio of soft tossing lefties seems to be a less than ideal scenario when we get to the final boss battle. Would love to see the club mix in another power righty to pair with Buehler and have Ryu/Hill/Kershaw being tone changers. Try to us Maeda in the deal(plus obviously some good spects) and see if the team could put together a dominant rotation in the PO's.
    • Jim Bowden seems to think the Dodgers will pursue help at 2B and there has been some speculation that the team is kicking around on Whit Merrifield. There was talk early on that the Royals were planning to build around their utility IF'er, but those feelings are said to have been changing in recent weeks. The club signed him to an incredibly team friendly contract that should net them some nice pieces if they choose to let him go. Merrifield would be a significant upgrade over the putrid duo that Hernandez and Taylor have created, while also not blocking Gavin lux in 2020 if the team wants to bring him up. Defensively, he is decent at 2B and the club is trying to move him all around the field, which is not getting met with great results thus far. Still his utility is incredibly valuable and his potent RH bat is greatly needed for this lineup and the way it is constructed.

Think the Nats would part with FA to be Rendon? Just make it a package deal? :D

Random thought, with the club using Muncy at 2B more and more, it will likely open up more options at the deadline. It could mean the team could look to fill any one of the IF positions and just move the pieces around to fit the situation. Would also mean they have no faith in Lux, but if they could get a legit bat to add to the lineup and cleanup the Taylor/Hernandez hole, I am all for it. Some FA to be names to watch are

    1B Jose Abreu
IF/OF Howie Kendrick(yeah he is having a really good year)
    SS Elvis Andrus
3B Anthony Rendon (though he will come with a hefty price tag)

The Rockies have DFA'd LHP Mike Dunn. The lefty has been an absolute disaster since signing a 3 year contract with the Rockies going into the 2017 season. With that said.... this is one of those first pieces that the club should pursue as a second LOOGY and cheap experiment going into the deadline. Why? Well while being a catastrophe at Coors, he has been pretty damn good out of that park. SSS is all over this, but in '17 and '19 he was a very different pitcher out of "Satan Field" and if he could turn things around getting out of there, he would be a much better low-moderate leverage option than what we have been seeing out of Alexander, Garcia and... *sigh* Kelly. Dunn is by NO means one of those 2 guys we are talking about that need to be added to the back end, but if Dunn figures things out, he could help with our LOOGY problem earlier in the game and could help be the bottom rung of a to be rebuilt pen for the back stretch.

The Dodgers are upping Joc’s reps at 1B. The hope is for him to begin to see game action at the position before the ASB. Sounds like they are going to do Pollock in CF full time, Verdugo in LF and maybe move Joc to 1B against RHP.

And they're going to the 17th in Minnesota.

Roberts would've thrown in the white towel an inning or two ago.

What's actually considered full time for an injury prone underperformer?

    Actually, what an idiot.

Probably thought it was one of Kate Upton’s boobs coming toward his face.

    Rather have Strasburg, anyway.
20 post season innings pitched, 0.47 ERA, 0.947 WHIP
Stras has handled the big stage better than a lot of guys. He needs a lot of maintenance, but when you look at the numbers in October, seems to be worth it.

Get the fuck out of the cage if you consider that "working on your bunting." Got what he deserved for half assing it.

NO CRYING OVER SPILT MILK ?
,Watching Machado make great plays with apparent ease and banging the ball everywhere, looking at Taylor struggle and Seagar self destruct physically every year now in a seemingly infinite whichever way, I sure wish we had MM out there every night. Yup.
Idgaf who doesn't like the way he runs.
Turner could be at second and Kike the uber utility guy, at which he's surely best.
Another one we should have signed...
In fact, I hope we ride this present lead into the post on into the WS and do it, because this very well may be the last shot we get for a while, if we get it that is.
Anyone who denies the substantial improvement of the Rox and Pads is kidding themselves.
