    (Talking about Kelly)

"Just a different body language out there right now, too"

How far can this shit announcing duo reach?

SNLA needs to just come up with a software that calls the play by play and fill in dead space with archived Vin stories.

    Anyways...good win. Finish them tomorrow.

I still regard Orel as a good analyst of the game, but his blind-ass homer act is insulting.

He's a slightly less annoying version of Mike Krukow.

I'm a little surprised they didn't scrap the bullpen game, if Urias/Stripling don't make it through 5, they are pretty screwed.

There's Jansen, too...and they could use Ferguson again I think. Baez only did one, also... only 9 pitches.
    They should be OK.

probably being optimistic but if Hill can rest and not have surgery it would be great to see him give us some bp innings at the end
i don't think a surgery for a 39 year old guy is going to work too well

i initially thought joe davis was good
but he doesn't know shit a 5 year old fan would
davis: "would a surprise bunt work here?"
orel: "with two outs and two strikes probably not a good idea."

i love orel's loyalty and knowledge
but the blind homerism @fsudog21 alluded to is beyond annoying

imo orel and nomar should swap spots
nomar is just as knowledgeable but doesn't get lost talking about stupid shit ad nauseum
joe davis, meh... that tim neverett guy that fills in for him occasionally could be a possible replacement, but tbh i haven't heard him enough
why is it so difficult to find good announcers for a (now) perennial ws contender?

I think the most optimistic take would be that he can come back in 10 days and continue where he left off (as a starting pitcher).
Did something new come out about the severity of his injury?

They spend too much time talking about the past and future instead of the present.
    "Isn't this reminiscent of 2017?"
"Wouldn't it be great if ____ happened?"
    That's fan talk.

A play-by-play announcer's job is to report what happens, provide contextual facts, and share relevant anecdotes (if capable).
A color guy (racist) is supposed to break down fundamentals and strategy from an experienced perspective.
A 'sideline' reporter is supposed to conduct interviews on the ground.

By the way, I think both color commentators and sideline reporters are unnecessary, but they're here to stay.

I think @ColoradoKidWitGame would agree that Rick Monday and Kevin Kennedy, despite their lack of analytics, was probably the most competent and insightful two-man booth we had (for those that do not know, they used to do about 50-60 games together on radio during the regular season). Rick managed to call the play-by-play without fooling the listener on every pitch (ahem, Steiner), and Kevin was able to talk strategy from the perspective of a former manager, catching instructor, etc. They would break down fundamentals, pitch sequencing, base running, strategy, etc. in a way that actually taught me something and helped me understand the play that just occurred.

I was on team Joe Davis because he is light years better than our previous replacements and his youth gives hope for some longevity in the booth.
But he really is just another generic contemporary announcer...almost indistinguishable from so many others like him.
Everything he says sounds scripted and recited in the same rhythmic "announcers voice".

Sample size isn't too big with Neveret, but I found myself muting the TV far less with he and Nomar calling the game.

he went on the IL and i'm hearing the injury is usually a precursor to TJ surgery
is any team going to give him a contract after 40 on a second TJ?

I think Vin and KK are difficult to compare since they had entirely different jobs
But I always enjoyed him (no homo)

    Whelp.
He's been one of the best in the NL inning for inning since we got him so that would suck

I must've missed something. I love to see Urias getting a start, but why was Buehler pushed back?

Losing to Scumgarner and splitting this series would ruin my week, and with how hot Walker has been, I was feeling pretty good about this game.

Thanks, much easier than actually commenting on what I said.

I hadn't heard about them wanting five prospects. I agree that is a bit absurd. But that's their starting price, and whose to say they wouldn't be willing to negotiate, especially with Friedman's relationship with Zaidi?

I don't believe our starting rotation is as strong as you think, even less so with Hill going down. Ryu and Buehler have been great, but Kershaw can't be trusted in a game of consequence, and Maeda is going to hurt as much as he helps. I'd like to see what Gonsolin and May could do, but I also understand that's unreasonable at this point in time.

If not Madbum then who? Scherzer, Syndegaard? Someone else? Starters are probably a luxury as the need to replace Kenley looms even larger.

zaidi's familiarity w/our specs is not a good thing
he'll want more than any giant is worth
i wouldn't be opposed to bumgarner
but not at the price they're purportedly asking

Gnats don't have even one player in their starting lineup batting over .250, as of the start of the game.

Of course, our BP is going to fare heavily in this one, and Roberts decided that one of our best hitters against LHP had to gave a night off, so who knows what will happen in this one?
