He'd be a solid upgrade to the BP, so do it. But more importantly, it sets up the Will Smith/Will Smith battery. Watching the game announcers struggle to identify which Will Smith fielded the bunt... you can't put a price on that.

There was another report out while I was off on my bachelor weekend that I read, but was obviously too busy to post. People connected to the organization say that the club is likely to stray away from the minor moves that they have pulled off at the deadline in the past that make just incremental improvements to the roster. With the solid depth at both the MLB and upper minors, the club doesn't have as much of a need or room on the 40-man to make those types of moves (think David Freese and John Axford types) this year. Granted, Freese worked out better than anyone could have imagined, but it sounds like we won't hear too many rumors similar to the Josh Harrisonesque ones of the past. The report said that the Dodgers are likely only going to target major upgrades that would be high impact players. So if a frontline starter becomes available or yes a top flight 2B or I guess even 1B, than the club will likely be interested. As of now, outside of Whit Merrifield, there hasn't really been any other names floated that would fit this criteria(no, Max is not on the market, nor will he likely be).

If the Dodgers added Whit Merrifield....
That would keep Muncy at 1B full-time.
Does that mean a strict Joc/Pollock platoon in LF?
Does somebody (Pollock) get sent somewhere along with a medium ceiling spec and 70% of his salary?

I have no idea what the plan would look like, or if they would even really do that at this point. The chances of Pollock playing out the rest of this season in LA are VERY high. Right now he has no value in trade and would force the Dodgers to eat a lot of that contract, which I am sure they are not interested in doing. It would make significantly more sense to keep him on the roster and see if he can build up any value whatsoever. The other thing is, that is a pretty big no-no in front of the players association. To sign a guy to a long term contract and then trade him makes players less likely to consider signing with you . It is a bad look and the Dodgers are not in a situation where making that move makes a whole lot of sense.

It was just a bad signing from the get-go.
Pollock had one 6 win season, but has proven over several other seasons that he is more like a 2.5-3 win player.
We didn't need him, and now we are stuck with him.
Part of me thinks, "If you can't produce, GTFO. Who cares about your long-term contract"...
...But they signed him knowing he's not that good.
So we'd be trading a guy for doing exactly what he was expected to do (Be a 2.5 win player who is injured all the time).
He actually is at a generous -0.3 WAR this season, though. So I think the player's association can fuck off. If you don't produce, you're gone.
That said, he isn't going anywhere for many reasons.

Tony Watson and Will Smith for Jordan Sheffield, Kike Hernandez and Edwin Rios.
Whit Merrifield for Jeter Downs, Connor Wong, Chris Taylor, Austin Barnes.

    2B: Merrifield
    3B: Turner
    SS: Seager
    RF: Bellinger
    1B: Muncy
    LF: Joc
    CF: Pollock
    C : Martin

    DH: Beaty
    PH: Freese
    OF: Verdugo
    UT: Lux
    BC: Smith

    Sarters: Kershaw, Ryu, Buehler, Hill
    Sustainers: Julio, Kenta, Ross, Kelly
    Finishers: Kenley, Smith, Watson, Baez

That team is squared up at every level.

Lux isn't going to be in the major leagues unless he is playing every single day.

You would need to keep one of Kike or Taylor, as they have both proven they can play pretty much any IF or OF position. A bench of Beaty and Freese doesn't work. They cannot play anything but the corners, and as good as Freese has been (1.000+ OPS!!!), he is old.

If Verdugo is not playing 6 games per week, something went wrong.

As much as Barnes sucks, it would stretch us pretty thin if we do not get a major league catcher back. Ruiz isn't ready and needs ABs every day.

This would be playoff rosters with Lux coming in after putting up scorching numbers in the minors.
Merrifield replaces Kike and Taylor as that super utility guy. He can play up the middle in the IF and OF and is a better fielder than both.
Plus he is consistent and still has some speed.

Beaty and Freese work great not as defensive utility because thats what Lux is for. They are there for pinch hitting and for when the DH is needed.
The Dodgers will be faced against a team that will have an impact bat at the DH spot. Beaty continuing to be good vs righties and Freeses overall excellence at the plate should allow the team to spend resources upgrading the bullpen instead.

Verdugo would get as many at bats as Joc and probably more than Pollock as Pollock would be rested every third day to keep his fragile ass safe. You can start Verdugo and platoon Pollock, its all the same.

Martin and Smith should be able to handle C just fine. You could always pick up a big fat depth guy like Vogt to lug his way into a big moment in the playoffs.

With the Cleveland Warrens and Washington Vaginals still in the Wild Card conversation, are any of their players really attainable? Brand Hand is a tier above Smith, imo. But Cleveland is tied in the WC I hear.

Did anyone else see that Bellinger has declined on his HR Derby invite? In my book, that is fantastic news and shows a lot of maturity on his part. I wish they'd can the whole spectacle.

Considering the prize money is 2 years (his) salary, I'm actually surprised he declined.
