Gnats leading in the nightcap. If they win this one they'll be just a game behind COL and within 4 of the second WC spot. Someone else had posted this last week, but I'd love to see them fool themselves into thinking they have a shot and hold on to their assets, missing out on the opportunity to reload their weak farm system. I won't say I'm pulling for them... I can't do that. But I'm just not rooting for them to lose as vociferously as usual.

Vassgay mentioned on Dodger Talk that the Dodgers are/should be looking at Whit Merrifield. He's pretty clueless but hopefully he's right (if other reports are to believed, he is not).

Whit is basically a RH Verdugo that would fill a position of need at 2B, with the flexibility to move around the whole field if Lux emerges or someone gets hurt.

    .309/.361/.500/124 wRC+/18.0 K% (Merrifield)
    .307/.355/.498/.355/123 wRC+/9.6 K% (Verdugo)

My goodness would that help tremendously. Contact, on-base, and pop from the right side.

Rumor has it, though, that the Royals want 3 MLB ready players.
Which is ridiculous, but he's on a team friendly deal, so they aren't under any pressure to move him.
They should, however, because by the time they're ready to compete he'll be 35.

Funny Royal fans. They must think they're the Marlins now or something.

    Or.......

We could just call up Lux, Gonsolin, and Smith once they're all healthy and hit three needs at once.

There is a guy in there that I would be fine with the club trading for Merrifield and that is Gonsolin. He is a good prospect, but I am not sure that he is worth more to us than Whit would be this season. If they want 3 MLB ready or near ready prospects, I'd say offer Gonsolin, Peters, Rios, White and if they would want him, Austin Barnes or go a younger spect if they prefer. That is opening one, maybe two 40 many spots for the eventual additions of Lux and May. Gonsolin and White both have front of the rotation upside, Peters has started to light things up over the last month+(figuring out his rebuilt swing?), Rios has started to hit for power again after taking a big step back from an injury and maybe the bright lights is what is getting to Barnes. Prospects are very rarely a sure thing and the Dodgers are not giving up a superstar prospect, but Merrifield is also not a superstar player in the middle of his prime. He is a damn good complimentary player, but he should also not warrant a return of either Lux or May as they have superstar upside. That's a package of a lot of potential solid contributors with MLB upside, 3 of which have legit impact potential in Gonsolin, White and Peters. Lux and Smith are just not realistic here as Lux is climbing into tippy-top prospect discussions and Smith should be starting at the MLB level now for a team that sorely needs help in the catching department. Moving Smith would be filling one less drastic hole at the expense of opening an already big one even more.

If that's what they mean by MLB-ready then that makes more sense. Thank you for clarifying.

Lefty. Righty. Just get a good reliever. Even the closer is washed up.

I’d like Diekman tbh. If he’s the 2nd or 3rd best reliever we get though. Reminds me of Cingrani. Throws hard, lefty, k’s a lot of people, and our catchers will get him more strikes.

Feels like Urias could be lining up to be at least 1 option, unfortunately

Don't know why some managers think a good way to have their guy's back is to publicly blow smoke up it. Maybe because a lot players are dumb enough to believe it? Seems unnecessary..especially if you're a solid manager like Hinch and in a real position of power with a loaded team. Just say " what's done is done ", let the media have fun with that bit of nothin, win a few games in a row and move to the next story. The old " both teams played hard " would've played just fine

    • Dodgers reliever Dylan Floro has been one of several Dodgers relievers to take steps back since last season. Floro combined for a 2.25 ERA and a 55.1 percent ground ball rate in 64 innings between LA and Cincinnati in 2018, but he’s at 4.11 and 51.9 in those categories across 35 frames this year. While Floro has walked fewer hitters, his strikeout and home run rates have gone in the wrong direction.

Watching highlights, I see that Kimbrel, who we couldn't get because it would offend Kenley or something, is rolling right along with 5 saves already. Not only that, the umps seem to be accommodating him...he got a punchout on a ball a foot high, if that.
Looking at Machado and now Harper, both killing it pretty damn well, I really have to wonder...even one of these three that were available would make a world of difference for us. Really.
Especially Màchado, looking at Corey and what he has evolved into. The hitting is agonizing, but it looks as if his D is suffering quite a bit.

A fan called into Dodger Talk last night with a pretty valid question...

"Why don't the Dodgers just slide Bellinger back to first base, let Joc stay in LF where he belongs, and let Verdugo and Pollock handle CF and RF?"

Vassegh's answer was as pathetic as it gets, and I truly hope this is not true...

"The Dodgers are trying to win Cody a gold glove in RF. In the playoffs you will probably see him at 1B often. They have a 15 game lead and can afford to do this"

    No words.
