What a joke. Both the reporting and huh? for once again showing zero ability to think critically.

When companies mention “strict [California] regulations” and don’t mention which specific regulations impacted them, it’s usually bs. I’ve heard this excuse numerous times, only to later find out a company’s demise was due to mismanagement or fundamental shifts in the industry that the company was unprepared to address. Simply blaming “government regulations” isn’t informative. It would be helpful to know which specific regulations need to be addressed, which one of the voter referendums created needless regulation, or why costs couldn't be passed on to consumers. These questions must be asked before assuming everything is the governments fault.

And in this specific case, it had zero to do with “strict California regulations.” It has to do with city construction in the nearby area that Broguiere has been fighting for many years.

I can almost guarantee you this company will relaunch in another part of California. But what about those “strict California regulations” you say?

File this one and huh? under V for vacuous

    So yes, California regulations.

My favorite burger place in Monrovia was there for decades.
The other side of the street became a strip mall with chain burger places.
My favorite burger place had to go.
So the city constructed a new divider between the two sides of the streets to match all the new construction on the one side.
That divider took years to complete.
In the meantime traffic could not be stopped on the busy route 66 street.
So one side was open to the public and one side was closed for about a block.
The side that was closed of course was the side where my favorite burger place was.
You could not access the burger place by car anymore, the parking lot much less the drive through lifeblood of the place was inaccessible. You had to park across the street next to the chain restaurants and jaywalk or walk a block to the corner light and cross then walk a block back to get to the restaurant.
The people at Angelo's kept it up for a year. I kept driving all the way over there and learned to park in the dirt lot that was used for Christmas tree or pumpkin sales during the fall and winter.
Eventually Angelo's had to close because there was little to no business and the divider had become a street widening as part of a sprucing up of the city.
I remember the last few times I went I saw less and less staff until it was just an old Greek man working the grill and an even older one cleaning up the tables. Not sure which one was Angelo.
Soon after Angelo's was gone and the street was widened and now I think there is a Carl's Jr or Del Taco there.
I wouldn't know... I have no more reason for visiting Monrovia.

Cities in California follow the general plan in regards to physical developments. The cities have full freedom to develop and maintain the land (as long as they meet requirements mandated by city ordinances, and state and federal law). A business relocating due to new construction is not “regulations.” The forum being affected by the new Clippers arena is not because of “regulations.”

Yes they did close. But they relocated to Pomona. In fact, they opened two locations in Pomona. Again, strict California regulations?

Such a surprise to hear Shaw chime in as an expert on something he knows nothing about.
How many businesses have you ever been involved in again?
How many people have you employed?
California is internationally known as the world's most hostile business environment.
Your opinion on the subject is as valuable as mine on forensic science since I have seen TV shows on the subject.
Best to stay in your lane.

Nice argumentum ad hominem. You have once again shown a lack of comprehension.

I don’t doubt regulations have adversely affected many small businesses in California. But that was not the case here which I was pointing out. The business did not go under. They did not close due to “regulations.” They are (likely) relocating and the owner is incorrectly citing “strict California regulations” as the reason for the move.

If you want to argue in favor of lower taxes and less regulations, then that’s a different discussion. There is a real, longstanding school within economics that argues, with some evidence, that lower taxes and less regulation lead to greater economic growth (probably) and thus to greater prosperity for all (that’s becoming less true, if it ever was). I also think that idea works better for countries trying to rapidly industrialize and not a country like ours that is already developed and now trying to support a large and aging population.

Eh he has a sense of humor and is a Dodger fan so I take it for what it is. As smart as he is he's exposed his belly on numerous occasions. A young guy finding his way so in spite of all that he belongs imo. Sort of like when I listen to Npr. It's interesting to hear people actually think that way.

Let NPR and those who listen to and support have their say.

Just don't use our tax dollars to support it.

Used to donate to KCRW all the time. Enjoyed Warren olney and all things considered. Great music etc. Totally agree it should stand alone without tax dollars. It's not like the conservative pov needs tax dollars to exist in the msm. Sink or swim.
