DR is way too kind to him in the press, i really wish these were alvin dark days. dr is less prepared to be tough emotionally than jim tracy, who would probably have kj 'manifesting his greatness' in the dugout. guy is struggling to hit 90. he WILL sink us in the post if the FO doesnt step in and remove him from the closer's role (barring miraculous heroics at the plate), its simply a matter of when. there is not one possible chance of him being consistently effective in a 7 game series given advance scouting and his decline in stuff. however, the stadium will be packed and his presence and status as the game ender will inspire countless millions in beer and tequila purchases, so i suppose that aspect makes the contract worthwhile to mark walters.

Speaking of alvin dark, kenley should have scalp laden with pine tar every time he takes the mound. he's become so predictable at this point that it would be a strategic advantage for him to hit the backstop with a few pitches here and there. obviously chin music is out of the question because for some reason he's 280 pounds and has the velo of a pcl middle relief scrub who doubles as the hot dog guy when he throws a couple days in a row.

What can be written that hasn't been already about Jansen?
I would say that is a team like the Jays, who have pretty much a W total equal to our loss total can do that to the closer, but can't muster any more...then we're stepped in shit lucky to get an opportunity for the W.
Are any other team in the post going to duplicate that? I think there's a great chance that a playoff team scores more. But that's just me. And the game, great SP effort, and maybe the series, whichever it may be, goes down the toilet bowl, clockwise. Teams that are much better will exploit him like a PT Barnum side show freak.
The problem is not (the problem) of Kenley Jansen any more. He has absolutely cemented his ineptitude and inconsistent performances as the antithesis of what you need as a closer, and has recently showed he definitely can be effective in a non- closing role. By his own request.
Simply, now, the problem is the manager.

I love Max Muncy and all, but man... if he was on another team, the way he stares at HRs and flips his bat would make me want to punch him. I find Kenley Jansen punchable for other reasons. Good win.

I have reached a zen status in regards to that ugly motherfucker
I am absolutely rooting for the other side every time he enters the game now
feel bad it had to come to this but our only shot is for him to be destroyed prior to the end of the year

The thing I do love about Muncy though is that he seems to have a pretty great idea of when he’s hit a home run. I can’t think of many times, if any, where he’s flipped his bat and strutted and it wasn’t a home run

Same. Right now he doesn’t have the command or the stuff to get by hitters. You’re basically praying they get under the ball. If his stuff was diminished, he’d still be able to be good if he worked on a secondary or maintained command.

Look at Baez man. This dude we all wanted to strangle for good reason. The guy kept at it, kept working on his changeup, and now he’s our 2nd best reliever.

I have glimmers of hope for Jansen I guess. At the end of the day, he’s still one of our better 5 relievers and were gonna need him to get outs at some point. Hopefully, if he’s still in the 9th, our offense has taken care of things by then

come to think of it I wonder if Max was making that face because it shouldn't have even been necessary for him to hit that one if toomgis does his job?

Yup, that’s right in that guys wheelhouse. They were going away away away on the guy which is probably his weak spot.

They just asked on MLB who would you rather have closing in the post...Jansen or Hader.
    The unanimous aswer: Josh Hader.

I’m going to go ape shit on the FO if TMGUS screws up our post season.

It’s just inexcusable that the FO is not taking advantage of the moment...this window....and for what? A rounding error equivalent of a deal for closing depth. If Jansen is that mentally weak about competition then what the hell is he doing closing in high stress situations?

At this point, I’d rather have any of the call ups, Gonsolin, May, start trying to close games. Maybe even try Urias when he comes back.

That's the thing, as long as he's right about it being a HR, I can't be mad at him. So I don't really have beef with it since he's on our team.

But for as much crap as Puig got for his bat flips and celebrating, I think Max's flip and stare would bug me more as an opposing fan.

Racism or something. Pedigree perhaps? Bryce Harper gets a lot of flack too.

The thing about Puig is he gets way more media exposure (good or bad) than he should based on his level of play. Even now Puig is constantly in the news even though he's a borderline starter in the league. Meanwhile, Max is top-4 in WAR in the NL, a guy who should be in MVP consideration talks as much as Yelich, but he's under the radar outside of LA.

I know there's a LOT of hate for the guy but imo no question the man for the closing role atm is Kelly
his stuff is fucking sick and he's dialed in
although I wouldn't have an issue trying Urias or anyone else not named Baez
fuck give the ball to Sadler a couple of times and see what happens
I don't want Baez because I'd be worried the pressure would pop him like a zit
