I'm as giddy as anyone else over late inning heroics and the " never out of it" aspect in recent games.
But , imo, that all masks signs of general lineup malaise against some of the worst teams in MLB.
I might be alone on this, but our output against a mish mash of barely known pitchers of late is concerning.
Even moreso, is the Jekyl and Hyde turns of Buehler.
And Ryu getting hit more and more is probably only natural, but wallowing in the sea of superlatives as he does
( deservedly so), it comes at the worst possible time to trend like it has been. The starters, however unfair it may be, must continue to be great. I just don't think the SPs can depend on much help.
I hold minuscule hope for games we are ahead by one or two runs in the ninth.
The Magic is strong this year though, and may be wondrous enough to get us to the Promised Land.

There is growing belief that.... the Dodgers will NOT be calling up Gavin Lux this September. The team is looking at the plan they took with Will Smith last year as the model potentially for Lux. This seems idiotic to me. With Verdugo hurt, they can afford to find a spot for this kid. Muncy should be at 1B full time anyway and delaying is nothing but the FO being afraid to hurt someone’s fucking feelings. IF they pass on him this September, you better believe that I’m going to be pissed.

Now that Muncy is out for the year, maybe they will bring him up. Probably not though

It was be ridiculous to at least not see if Lux can keep up his lighting in a bottle so to speak. Dude has a 1.000+ OPS for the season you better at least give him an opportunity.

Particularly if Muncy goes on the IL now.

I agree I think only problem is making sure you get enough at bats for Lux, Verdugo, Joc, Muncy, Pollock, Bellinger and then Taylor/Enrique. Enrique is probably last of a priority but I could see the hesitation on trying to figure out ABs for everyone. I think it’s possible and wanna see it happen but it might lead to having to do things weird like splitting up games between players

Alanna twitted that Max Muncy's has a right wrist contusion, no break.

Speculation is that he could only miss a few games, and with rosters expanding in a few days it's possible the team won't need to IL him. My guess is: with the division locked up, HFA in the NLCS highly likely, and the fact that our FO has yet to meet a player they didn't want to IL... Muncy will go on the 10-day IL today. It feels like a good time to give him a week off, he also got knocked over by Gardner in the Yankees series. Give him 10-days off now and he can be activated a week from Sunday with 3 weeks to go before the playoffs, hopefully refreshed.

Potentially injuring a player for the playoffs is the only way the Padres can ever be mentioned in anything postseason related.

    Cunts.

Same initial diagnosis as CT3 and it turned out to be a break so I'm waiting.

    Agree.
He looked deeply in need of a vacation. Looks worn down.
Even worse, so does Ryu. Badly.
This play like shit, score a little for 4 or 5 games or so, have an offensive explosion once a week, then go back to doldrums is not going to work eventually, with a team that has a closer of Jansen's calibre.
    Recipe, ultimately, for another failure.
I mean, no fucking team needs a closer when they are leading by nine runs.
Remember what Tommy said, " don't play for the name on the back of your jersey, play for the name on the front".

If Ryu isn't rejuvenated, we are in trouble, I agree.
Cody and Corey looking like they will get a combined 5 hits in the post season is big trouble, too.

They don't call it the dog days for nothing. Calendar turning to September usually sparks renewed enthusiasm.

There is no question in my mind that we will lose in the WS, and Jansen will be largely responsible. Management is asleep at the switch and has been for years.

Taken from a Chat with Jay Jaffe on Fangraphs:

    Cutter velocity:
    2016 94.2
    2017 93.5
    2018 92.7
    2019 92.1

    Horizontal Movement:
About 2 inches less than 2017

So you have tangible trends and data to look at, as well as the results.

But, yeah, Vassegh knows all. "You don't doubt the greats" lol

Nobody has ever been less deserving of their job. I would say Kenley, but at least he was once good. Vassegh has no talent or knowledge.

And yet he keeps throwing that cheese. It's basically a low velocity fastball right down the pipe. Any big leaguer can hit that.

He hasn't developed any other pitch that complements his existing pitches.
