There’s video showing how the Astros used whistles against Kershaw in Game 5 of the WS to tell the batter what was coming. This hurts man, this really really fucking hurts.

    • The Dodgers are said to be one of the teams making a run at Josh Donaldson. This does not mean they aren’t doing the same for Rendon, just that they have been one of the teams to contact him early on. Very obvious that Turner’s days at 3B are probably over.
    • The early number that Scott Boras is telling teams is 300M to get Cole... buckle up, he ain’t signing anytime soon.
    • Howie Kendrick is getting heavy interest from the Rays and may be close to signing with them.
    • The Nationals are said to be prioritizing Rendon and Strasburg over everyone else. Their FO feels they’ve got enough funds to bring back both and planned for this last off-season once they knew Harper was not coming back.
    • The Padres are more likely to be big traders this year and the Strasburg talk may have been more of a ploy to get the Dodgers to pony up more, or the Nats. The Padres are said to be close to their financial cap.
    • The Marlins have shown heavy early interest in Nick Castellanos. There’s been some speculation that they could spend some money this year and start to try to compete.
    • The Reds are said to be pursuing Marcell Ozuna pretty hard in the early goings. They have said that they are going to prioritize building an offense around their solid pitching.
    • The Indians came out today and said Francisco Lindor is not being shopped and he will be their opening day SS. Some people are saying that behind the scenes, they’re not entertaining offers.
    • The Cubs are expected to move one of their core of Bryant, Scwarber, Baez or Contreras. Teams are getting the idea they’re serious about a mini rebuild.

The more I think about it, the more I think serious serious penalties need to be handed down. Like lifetime bans for any front office personnel and coaches who set this up, and any players involved should receive a minimum of one season suspension. The team should also lose a first round pick for every division title and a first and second round pick for every playoff series won since 2017 (yes, that’s 9 firsts and 6 seconds).

Strip them of playoff wins for the past 3 years.
Let it be a lesson to tankers.
Worse than cheaters and cheaters too.

Yeah, such fucking bullshit. I honestly remember at some point in that series I remarked either on here or on Twitter that the person whistling so much was getting annoying. It was right there in front of us and we couldn’t see it. I’m at a point that I want terrible things to happen to the players and personnel involved.

My initial reaction was to criticize the Dodgers, as it's my natural instinct.

The more I read about the particulars, I think stripping the Astros of their WS is more than appropriate.

Like ColoradoKid said, Kershaw (who was still prime back then, save for some back problems) was superb in every inning he pitched that series except for game 5...a game they had a FUCKING CAMERA relaying signs to the dugout? Holy shit...they really did cheat us out of a WS. I mean.. holy fucking shit...

Yes, Kenley choked and we saw some dreadful offense from some of our stars. But they were playing a 103 win team and it was going to be a tough battle. Games 2 and 5 killed us. Two "classics" and we lost both. One of them because they used a camera and knew what was coming.

This is not gamesmanship like Darvish tipping pitches. This is conspiracy. Pure cheating. If the evidence is there, strip them of everything.

I can already tell by the rhetoric from the media that nothing will happen though. "Everyone is doing it so .."

He didn't squeeze the strike zone, he severely widened it, until the 10th inning and Kenley came into pitch, he squeezed Kenley. Astros probably sent some $$ Bill Miller's way for that shit too, wouldn't put it past them at this point.

Not the first time the Dodgers have been on the wrong end of this kind of shit.

Giants pulled same kind of garbage in 1951 when they overcame a big Dodger lead late in the season, forcing a three game playoff which ended in the famous (or infamous) Bobby Thomson shot heard 'round the world.

I highly recommend "The Echoing Green," a book about the circumstances surrounding what the Giants did. Must read for those interested in the history of the game.

Once the organization was outed, they lost all credibility to tell us when they did and didn’t cheat. Why the fuck wouldn’t they do it in the WS? In fact, why the hell would I believe they only cheated at home? I’ve been behind the wall at DS, and it wouldn’t be impossible to secretly rig something back there - and for a WS game 7 wouldn’t you pull out all the stops?

The Astros GM Jeff Luhnow was quoted in an article, and I paraphrase, that they won the WS because of great players like Altuve, Springer, and Verlander who play the game the right way. Assuming this quote came after the allegations, Luhnow is doubling down on defending a sinking ship. Not too different from the Astros initial defense of Taubman.

There’s little doubt that this shit is running downstream, and to assume the sign stealing was the extent of their cheating would be incredibly naive.

I watched some of Game 5 to see if I could pick up on anything (a really hard watch, BTW) and it is hard to tell 100% because of all the background noises, but it seemed very consistent that there would be a whistle sound before each curveball and a different whistle before each inside pitch, and the Astros literally jumped on every inside pitch.

There was one AB with Evan Gattis where there was a curveball whistle, then he drops his bat before the pitch is even released to take all the way, on a 1-0 pitch. The very next pitch, on 2-0 there’s no whistle and he’s not taking all the way.

Another interesting thing about the inside pitch whistle - the final AB of the game, Bregman is up and there is a whistle sound, Barnes sets up for an inside pitch at the last second and Bregman swings out of his shoes - the funny thing is the pitch misses the spot by a mile so it’s actually low middle of the plate and Bregman adjusts just enough mid swing to slap it. But he looked like he was jumping out of his shoes the same way they did all night on inside pitches, and the pitch was supposed to be inside.

All this shit will do is cause us more fucking pain. We aren't getting a trophy, we aren't getting the satisfaction of winning a World Series. All we get to say is that we were officially cheated and the only people that will have an ounce of remorse are other Dodgers fans. Everyone else is going to just say, "well, fuck you". I hate this and I really hope MLB murders the Astros for this.

going on reddit and other sites, people actually are saying we got robbed. Shit, i saw gnat fans straight up saying as much as they hate us, we got cheated out of a championship. The Astros went from being darlings to being hated more than the Yankees over the course of a month. There's no sympathy for Houston.

don't remember but just watching that sequence of pitches w Kershaw it sure looked like some really good pitches were called balls
just fucked up to think it was so obvious and NY had called them out on it the previous series
and yet we just sat on our hands the whole series

Pretty long history of cheating in this game and just doing whatever it takes to win in general, this is just an updated version guided by tech. More of a sign of the times. We just came out of an era in which almost every great slugger was either on steroids/HGH or under suspicion, and just about every team that won a WS had multiple impact guys that were at the very least under suspicion for PEDs. Obviously, you can toss in a handful of the great pitchers from that era, as well. Can't tell me that the WS wasn't impacted by PEDs/cheating in the last era..any WS titles vacated? Ortiz and Manny PED powered Sox handing over their jewelry any time soon?

All this Astros shit does nothin for me, just another reminder that LAD came up short again. My question is, when is LAD gonna stop being the victim and start being the team that does whatever it takes? If LAD were to cheat and win it all next season, then get caught 2 or 3 years from that point..personally, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about the integrity of it all. MLB and integrity..Lol. Maybe the 30+ year title drought plays into those feelings, but it is what it is. I just come out of this thing wanting to know what LAD is doing to gain an edge next season because this sort of stuff didn't begin with the Astros and won't end with the Astros

    • The SF Media and fanbase are going absolutely nuts about the hiring of Gabe Kapler as the new coach and are going after Faran Zaidi as well. The two's history with what happened with some Dodger prospects has the locals wanting both out before the season even starts. This could turn ugly REALLY fast if the Giants struggle out the gate. I wonder if this pushes them to spend heavily this offseason since they are very likely to be pretty bad next year as currently constructed.
    • Madison Bumgarner only seems to be getting interest from east coast teams in the early going. It has been speculated the last couple of years that he would likely prefer to go back close to home and join the Braves. They, the Phillies and a couple unnamed others have been most prominent in their talks thus far.
    • The Blue Jays and Twins have been some of the more active teams when looking for pitching in the early going. Both teams are said to be second tier shopping thus far (so not Cole or Strasburg) with the Blue Jays strongly pursuing Odorizzi thus far. The Jays were expected to be active with trades, but have since said they plan to compete and build around what they have.
    • The Padres are actively pursuing a long term extension for Fernando Tatis Jr. They are said to be following the parameters of the Acuna deal and if they steal that fucker with a similar offer, I'm gonna be pissed.
    • Some, including Jim Duquette, hear that the Yankees are out in front early in the Cole sweepstakes. There is a feeling around the league that the Angels realize that Cole does not solve their problem and are more likely to try for a duo or trio from the second tier FA market (Wheeler, Odorizzi, Ryu, Bumgarner, Keuchel and a lesser extent Hamels) since their starting pitching is really bad and they could have a decent offense in 2020.
