    • Passan tonight summing up a Manfred talk made it seem like MLB is about to crush the Astros. I'll believe it when I see it.
    • There's a new report out that apparently has the Astros have been using illegal devices to cheat ala vibrating wrist bands or some shit. I can't find the report as work has me WAY busier than usual for this time of year, but a lot of bloggers are talking about it... honestly, I'm too tired to go looking for it anyway.
    • Braves signed Chris Martin to a 2 year deal. The Braves have now signed two of the top 5 relievers on the market which as we have learned in recent seasons, means absolutely nothing.

It won't happen, but if MLB is serious about a "harsh" penalty, they should have the Astros forfeit the entire 2017 season altogether. I don't care if they award the WS to LA or not, but the Astros shouldn't still be in the records.

If anyone in the Astros organization or any players complain, make them testify in public.

I'll go back now and dream about unicorns.

Vacating Astros victories is apparently not even being considered and them retroactively awarding the Dodgers the WS is an even less likely scenario. My guess is it’s gonna be fines, loss of draft picks and limits on Int’l draft picks. MLB can’t do much else like give them a hard salary cap or not allow them to sign FA’s as then the MLBPA would get involved and I’m sure they would be pissed.

I feel like suspensions/bans might be on the table too.

This actually what I want to see more than anything else. Every single player involved should receive a suspension that is at least as long as a first-time steroids suspension (I believe it’s 80 games), although longer suspensions should be considered as well. Coaches and FO personnel should have even stricter suspensions/bans.

All the other stuff is empty without this.

Who cares about fines? They spend more to water their grass every year than the fine will be.

Draft picks? Big fucking deal. They got their ring and still have plenty of young players.

Only thing that will satisfy me is stripping them (homo) of their WS. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

Tastefully done. Like a corked bat made by Yeshua the carpenter himself.
And consumers gonna consume. Fans will be too wrapped up in Xmas vacations and New Years to give the usual amount of fucks, will return and hop right back into the game..

I haven't really been following this stuff. But I just skimmed through a few episodes of MLB Now and MLB Tonight that were on my DVR. Nobody gives a shit about the Dodgers getting fucked over.

Talking heads are going on and on and on about technology in general, sign stealing in general, etc. No specifics, context, or nuance to this conversation at all. A team fucking used cameras, earpieces, buzzers, and who knows what else to directly beat another team in the World Series!!! And all they can do is talk about generalities and "where we go from here"?

What about somebody's legacy being completely tarnished? I am as critical of Kershaw as anybody on the planet, but to that point he had several great postseason performances, including games 1 and 7 of that WS. Yes, he had that epic meltdown in 2014 against St Louis. but otherwise, you could attribute some of those other failures to being left in the game to die with a shitty bullpen behind him. 2018 and 2019 can be attributed to him just being past his prime and a horrendous manager. 2017 was the last year he was really Clayton Kershaw, save for some back issues. And if he comes through in game 5, the rest of his career is gravy. But no. He was cheated as bad as you can get cheated.

A team's drought could have ended after 29 years, and now it extends into three decades. Because the Astros cheated. Fan spent thousands of dollars to potentially experience a World Series victory, but the Astros cheated.

But sure, talk about technology and a bunch of other generalities without facing what really happened. Brian Kenny, Tom verducci, Eric Burns, Harold Reynolds, and the rest of the clowns on that piece of s*** network can get f*****. I'm glad I don't watch that s*** anymore. I just aborted my DVR of that garbage.

And this is why we will not be satisfied with the punishment. Because we are having the wrong arguments and discussions.

This is a great post, and really speaks to the gravity of what the Astros did. I want the penalties to be severe enough so that it deters people moving forward, but you're correct in that the penalties should also take into consideration punishment for what they did to others. And at the end of the day, the penalties won't be harsh enough because... well, no punishment will fix what they did. Nothing. And I've said it before, I don't think there's a punishment that could be handed down that it too harsh. Seriously, fuck the Astros and anyone involved. Their players are the lowest form of people on the planet, just straight up losers who had no problem with cheating because fair competition was too much for them.

I think they should have to return any playoff bonuses they received over the past 3 years, and return that to the fans who paid to see rigged playoff series. Take away their WS, sure, but they still had their parade and their fans still got to celebrate... hell, 75% of their fans are denying this whole scandal and will probably feel no remorse whatsoever anyway. That team needs to be blown into the stone age, their players need to feel a financial squeeze one way or another, and their coaches and FO need to be wiped from MLB never to be seen again.

Most trade rumors don't piss me off, but Vazquez for Ruiz did it. Of course, that was before we even knew about this fiasco

I'd be all for that, but a lot of baseball people on the radio and TV network are saying that banning is going too far. So I think MLB is trying to get them to ease the pubic's perception of what is going to happen. Though some do think that there will be one fall guy that gets the axe and then they will call it settled. People forget that Selig tried to sweep steroids under the rug for a couple of years before congress finally stepped in and said, "that's enough!". I can see the same thing happening here. I think Goldstein is already getting lined up to get banned, the Astros will pay him hush money and this will fade away. Baseball does not want another tainted championship on their hands, they won't want to alienate a fanbase of one their largest markets(Houston) and they are not going to want to find just how deep this thing was. I bet MLB pusses out.

With that said, I would love to see them absolutely massacre the Astros with 80 game suspensions to players that participated and no playoff performances in 2020, lifetime bans for all front office and coaching personnel involved(so that would mean multiple head coaches now), Loss of 1st, 3rd and 5th round picks as well as Int'l market hard cap at $500K for 5 seasons, $0 from league revenue sharing for 3 years and vacating their 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons, which includes players stats accrued in those times that participated in the events. Will never happen, but oh boy would that be fun to watch.

Dodgers put OF DJ Peters, RHP Mitch White and UTL Zach McKinstry on 40 man roster and left RHP Jordan Sheffield unprotected. Sheffield seems like a sure thing to be picked up in the rule 5 draft as his stuff is just too good to pass up for a bad team that can stash him in the pen. McKinstry had a breakout 2019 campaign and a lot of folks think he could be a contributor at the highest level. Jharel Cotton has also been DFA'd after taking the year to recover from TJ. He could be a VERY interesting pickup for a pen as his change is elite.

If you are the DA in a town that has an elite left handed closer and the Dodgers are trying to acquire him. Then it is probably a good idea to start an investigation of that players personal life. So weird that this has happened twice now in the span of only a couple of years. 1) What a piece of shit this dude has turned out to be. 2) Can only imagine what would have happened had the Dodgers traded Lux or May for him only to see this shit happen 3 weeks later. Fucking cataclysmic.
