Good lord, what a terrible contract that has been.

It’s my understanding that they will get taxed by both their home state and away state, and most states allow for a tax credit for the income tax paid in away states. But the effective tax rate will wind up being your home state (possibly a little higher if your home state is really low, like Florida). This is info from a coworker who is our firm’s tax guy, and a fellow Dodgers fan.

But the bottom line is the state income tax of your team is a big deal if you care about every dollar.

Tigers' org equally as terrible since Dombrowski left, so they're a perfect match

Showing Kemp the door that year was oh so necessary, but hopefully, the names are bigger this time. Lindor, Betts, or Rendon. Any 2 will do.

Think Friedman added Toles that year too..wouldn't mind the reemergence of head, shoulders, knees and Toles this offseason

    • Rosenthal is going to have a piece later today about how the Dodgers should go all out this winter. Got all excited watching MLB Network when they had big Dodger news and it was nothing but speculation due to them being so far under the tax.
    • The Brewers are acquiring catcher Omar Narvaez from the Mariners for prospect Adam Hill. That would be a HELL of a leap for their pitching staff as that's them going from the best framing catcher, to the worst in one offseason.
    • According to reports, the Dodgers are not likely to move Lux or May in deals. This was reported earlier in the offseason, but people keep saying the Dodgers could do a trade for player X in exchange for Lux. It has already been reported that the club is not willing to move Lux. Makes sense as his upside is pretty massive and they could probably land some solid pieces for Seager that they could flip.
    • There is a feeling that Bumgarner could get more than Wheeler as certain GM's involved in negotiations for both, feel MadBum is the better pitcher. Analytics paint a different picture, but Bumgarner has certainly been the more reliable one. The White Sox and Twins seem to be his hardest pursuers, but the Phillies and Braves could still be involved even after adding pitching this offseason.
    • Astros traded 4th OF'er Jake Marisnick to the Mets for 2 MiLB'ers. He was set to only make $4M next year, but probably felt he would not be much of a hitter without a little *ahem* help at home.

Should be interesting to watch that unfold. Whenever the Yankees are involved, especially when they really want someone, things could get a little crazy price wise.

I’d trade Lux for Lindor or Bryant. Those are MVP candidate players.

I don't think anyone is trading for Bryant until his case is closed. Doubt it will be one of those things that will be easy to get over, so a trade is definitely a real possibility.

    I'd trade Lux for Bryant.
No matter how good Lux was in MiLB and probably will be in MLB, Bryant is a proven player and still young.
    A RH bat too.

Lux's power is a wildcard with how unpredictable the run scoring environments are season to season.

Bryant can also play the OF which comes in handy.

I don't think the Chicago Cubs are sending Kris Bryant to the Los Angeles Dodgers in any shape or form. Don't even need to waste their time.

Friedman has a buddy in Boston, now..just go get Betts.

Haha, I'm not sure what exactly prompted this rant, I agree with you but I don't know that anyone feels sorry for how much players make. Personally, I'm always surprised at how often the highest bidder signs a player, because with the size of free agent contracts it seems like you would prioritize other things over a few extra million dollars. I dunno. Maybe it's a sign of respect that they understand how big a few million dollars is? Even if you make $100 million you're not taking for granted how big a few more million are?

But I get you - Maybe it's easy for me to say (as a hypothetical choice) but give me a West Coast zip code and a chance to play for my favorite team growing up, and I'd leave a big chunk of money on the table... assuming I'm setup for life either way.

While I very much agree with this, the new breed of GM is less wary of whom they trade with as long as they bring back the best return. The Dodgers would arguably be the best fit for them in that we have the richest farm system of teams that could also afford to take him on. I just don't know how many Boras superstar clients one team can have that all are becoming free agents at the same time. Still, if he is a FA in two years or one year drastically changes the price for him and he's also not been the god he once was since the shoulder issues crept up.

I'm going to add that the Cubs have also done a good job of quickly restocking their farm. It is not elite, but it has some intriguing pieces already to build towards.

Bryant is a really good player, but he also has not been the same guy that he was a couple years ago and his impact is reduced as he's pretty bad in the OF. He's OK at 3B, but it seems like his future is probably 1B at this point. Those guys are not nearly as valuable as they once were and I don't feel is worth the #2 prospect in the game. There should be enough in our farm to make a deal happen outside of Lux and May.

Dodgers signed LHP Casey Crosby. He played Indy ball last year, but hasn't pitched in the bigs since 2012. He was a starter until 2014, tried to save his career in relief, but left the game after that season. He started back up again in 2017 and I just watched a video of a recent bullpen of his. Looked solid with his FB between 96-98, but he wasn't locating the pitch and after a little more research, throwing strikes has been his biggest problem. Also has a decent curve and change. Could be an interesting piece to watch, not sure what his contract is, but I am almost sure it will be an MiLB one.
