It's true in some instances, but I just don't see that applying to LAD and the Cubs as it pertains to Kris Bryant and what he means to that fan base in CHI. That and the Cubs aren't dead yet, likely won't be in the business of bolstering the LAD machine that they may have to go through. Too many other places and players they can target. Teams are making strong trades every year that don't involve us. Pirates sending horses to Tampa for Archer. Yankees getting a horse from the Cubs for Chapman. Lol Teams don't need LAD. LAD is regularly left out of impact deals.

We can talk about the assets that LAD has on the farm and their willingness to trade some over the years, but where are they? Meaning the actual difference makers from the farm..yeah - outside of Yordan - LAD does a good job of keeping those guys and seeing the others off. DeLeon..nothin. Calhoun..nothin. Montas and Cotton..nothin and nothin. So on and so forth. I just hope they're realistic about the guys that they target and use some of the trusted contacts that they have - like Friedman's new potential pipeline to Boston. Get a deal done, don't worry about getting over on some team. I probably sound like Rosenthal right now and his BS from today or yesterday, whenever it was, but I've been on it since the season ended

Dodgers have reached out to Blake Treinen about a potential deal. That could be a great pick up.

    • Passan has an article out that the Yankees are full speed ahead on getting Cole and may be willing to do whatever it takes to sign him. On MLB radio earlier, someone said that Cole prefers the NL and he hears that the Dodgers are his first choice followed by the Angels. He apparently is not super enthused to remain in the AL, but all indications are now that the Yankees could be willing to approach $300M to get Cole. If you were wondering, the Yankees are already over the Tax for the 2020.
    • The Nats owner made waves today by saying that the club does not have the funds to keep both Rendon and Strasburg. They have been and remain optimistic that they will retain Stras, which would leave Rendon as the odd man out. They are roughly $80M below the tax at current.
    • Mad Dog again said he hears the Dodgers are in front for Rendon and would be surprised if he goes anywhere else. He is the only one saying that and he seems like a broken man when he mentions it.
    • Twins re-signed Michael Pineda for 2 years and only $20M. Sounds kind of like a bargain to me.
    • Something that was interesting in the Rosenthal piece this morning was that he talked about how Friedman is notorious for working on deals non-stop in the offseason without ever pulling the trigger. He will line things up and then walkaway at the last minute or just keep the teams hanging. It is not just a deal here and a deal there, it is supposedly a ton of them. So that could explain why over the years we always hear those weird ass rumors out about the Dodgers and White Sox in talks and the team kicking around on players that don't seem to fit a need. It doesn't appear to upset a lot of people as they said it was frankly impressive. Something to keep in mind when you hear some weird out of the blue rumor about the club as that means they probably talked to team X about player X in the event that Team's Y and Z agreed to deals before that.

Heyman said that he was working up to 100 this past season and someone said they think his curveball is a plus pitch at least. Definitely seems worth taking a flyer on.

I have to say that if there is that kind of a huge deal in the works for Cole, maybe the Dodgers should not participate.

That being said, this sounds like a Boras special....trying to drum up a level of business where none exists, targeted on a couple of desperate teams (esp the Angels).

Wowza, Padres trade Renfroe and #5 Prospect 2B/SS Xavier Edwards(#72 overall) to Tampa for Tommy Pham and an unnamed prospect. Very win now trade as they’re giving up 4 years of Renfroe and 6+ of Edwards for 2 of Pham. Pham is the best player in the deal, but this is going to force the Padres to have to get some pitching now so they can take that next step. Solid offseason so far though.

    lol, and Snell is pissed

The Dodgers aren't winning a bidding war with the Angels or the Yankees, and if BOTH are involved you can forget about it. Personally, I'm all for passing on Cole. His proximity to the Astros organization is just too much of a red flag - I know it's probably excessive paranoia, but if we are talking $300 million for a pitcher it's easy to pass no matter what.

That's just smart. Keep in contact with every team and get a sense of how much each organization values every player. This could be why the "high priced player" rumors came out... it never hurts to talk about trades (you don't have to go through with it), and in those talks you might learn a little nugget that helps you down the road.

If he’s willing to take 2-3 years I’d rather extend Joc then trade him. He shows up every postseason.

Sign Rendon and make the trade for Betts. All good after that. Can find a #2 to fill in behind Buehler @ the trade deadline

Keep seeing these rumors that the Mets are about to go all in for Betts..he needs to shoot that shit down, himself. Tell'em he has no intentions on extending, so fuck off

Do you think Betts had any interest in extending with ANY team. That one year, coupled with the Dodgers not likely to give out 300 million dollar contracts means he's a rental.

Everything I’m seeing is that the Sox have no intentions of trading Betts. He’s 100% going to try free agency according to people that know him as well. Supposedly the Sox would only move him for a Herschel Walker return and the teams they talked to early on were not anywhere close to offering that, so they’ve pulled him off the market. Teams that reached out said the asks by the Sox were nowhere close to realistic and they’ll wait till the offseason and try to lure him. Also sounds like the Indians are doing the same with Lindor, so the trade market may be a bit rough.

Also, Rendon has agreed to a deal with the Nationals.

    EDIT: Misread a headline

Everyone is saying that he wants to test the market. So he’s almost certainly a rental. The Dodgers are said to really like him, but nobody is going to trade the farm for him if it means just one year and then he goes somewhere else.

Something is going on with the Nats. I wonder if the Yankees get Cole, if it could REALLY fuck them over. The Angels seem dead set on getting an ace, so they could way overbid for Stras if they miss on Cole. Leaving the Dodgers vs Nats and the Dodgers seem willing to avoid the deferral route. There is a chance that the dominoes fall in a way that could cost the Nats big time.

Both teams have a shot at winning a solid amount of games, so that makes sense. It's not like they're the O's with Machado.

Probably thought they could drum up enough interest to get a big offer by leaking a willingness to move them earlier in the off-season. Sounds like we may see what the Mets are willing to do - which they're usually willing to do somethin strange

Pshh. Nats just won the WS. TBH, if I owned the Nats right now - all these super expensive FAs could fuck off.

Lerner has gotta be the Kermit sipping tea meme right now given how their season ended @ the top. Pump fake like you want to keep'em..and let'em go
