Let’s not forget, the Yankees needed this as much as anyone. The Dodgers still have a better pitching staff than the Yankees at this moment, and we are most likely going to add another arm.

Can't wait to hear how we offered 8/299 or something like that.

I was just putting it as it stands now. Hell, I'm not even sure Urias is gonna finally be a full time starter

Not to mention a way better bullpen than us.

Bumgarner would be hated so much more.

I think at this point, the Dodgers would have to sign Rendon and pull a rabbit out of their ass to land some other star pitcher to get me excited about this upcoming season. I think our pitching staff will be better than expected with May and Urias, but they are going to need another horse behind Buehler and Bumgarner ain't it.

    • Rendon is not expected to sign at the winter meetings.
    • Donaldson is considered likely to sign this week.
    • Reminder, Betts and Lindor are said not to be on the market. The Indians owner has said a hard no for trading Lindor and the Sox are going to move other pieces to keep Betts in Boston.
The Dodgers offseason outlook got pretty dim, pretty quickly. The Yankees getting Cole has made them the overwhelming favorites to win the WS. Had he gone to the Angels, it would have been one of those "meh, whatever" scenario's as the Angels would still not have even been AL West favorites. Dodgers now HAVE to add to the offense and hope their young starters can take big steps forward. Not a great situation to be in.

With all due respect, the Dodger's off-season always looked dim. They're too pragmatic.

Did any of us really expect to have a chance at Cole up until a few hours ago, like honestly? I always thought Rendon was always the most realistic one of the big 3 to attain. Now let's see how serious they are about getting better, because clearly they've but that kind of money on the table for someone, Rendon is worthy of it too.

I said I'm gonna find it hard to do a touchdown dance over the Halos' problems if they keep stepping on LAD's plans. Obviously, you can do whatever you like

Glad to have come up short for Cole. Punk ass.

That said, LAD was @ the table and came up short..again. Win the services or stay home. Just another L.

Stunned Cole didn’t take the inevitably leaked 3 years 130 million Dodgers offer

Just spoke to Scott Boras. Asked the agent what helped make Gerrit Cole choose the Yankees and he said, “ Five conversations with Hal Steinbrenner,” and “Andy Pettitte.” Boras was impacted by Hal’s persistence and Cole was influenced by Andy’s stories about pitching in NY.

What about Kersh's stories? :laff: Almost hurt myself laughing

I wanted Stras or Cole to pair with Buehler at the top... plus Rendon, which yeah not totally realistic. My problem now is the Yankees were honestly a stud pitcher away from becoming a potential nightmare for the playoffs and now they have it. It is not that their starters are amazing, but they are good enough when paired with their offense and bullpen. Plus if Severino returns to form, their rotation looks even that much more formidable with two #1's and a #2 in Paxton waiting for you in a series. My frustration very well all could be for naught and someone else may be waiting for us if we are fortunate to make it to the WS again, but as of right now, the last two days have been a body blow to the Dodgers.

    • There is some speculation that the Dodgers "sudden turn" to Bumgarner could be to force the Giants into coming back to the table and overpaying him. The metrics do not line up with the Dodgers supposed interest in MadBum unless they really are serious about that change of character line for the clubhouse, think a Kirk Gibson effect. Giants fans are pissed that the club DFA'd the beloved, but not good, Kevin Pillar and are screaming for Zaidi's head. The Kapler signing has also not gone over well with the fanbase and the reaction is that MadBum potentially signing with the Dodgers would be a cataclysmic turn to the offseason. So, could the Dodgers with the knowledge that the Giants have an emotional owner that would overrule president Farhan Zaidi in his decision making, go out and start "strongly pursuing" the Giants hero to force their rivals into doing something stupid? That would be some 4D chess, but many in baseball are well aware that the ownership has already gotten in the way of a lot of Zaidi's plans, so the Dodgers may be trying to stall the clubs rebuild project.
    • Rosenthal this morning said the Dodgers could turn to Ryu and Rendon now that they have missed out on the winter's biggest prize and their top target. Ryu is garnering a lot of interest from AL Central teams and the Blue Jays.
    • There was a report late last night that the Reds and Astros had made progress on deal that would send Correa and Josh Reddick to the Reds in exchange for Luis Castillo. That would be AWFUL if the Astros were able to reload with another young stud starting pitcher, this one cost controlled for 4 more seasons. Really really REALLY hope this one is all bullshit.
    • Whit Merrifield has been asked about a lot and the Royals are refusing to discuss him in trade negotiations. Dayton Moore is an interesting cat, that team has no chance of competing in the near future and he refuses to move pieces that can help their rebuild.
