Lost two starters, and pretty good ones too. So are we really trotting out CK, Buehler, and Maeda, and hope Urias, Gonsolin or May pan out? Actually, I would think at least two have to become front line starters.

Gonsolin seems more like a BP guy, but then Kelley has to have some kind of career year....and....well, it’s puzzling.

If all those guys pitch like they are capable of they are right up there besides us as NL favorites. Too bad they have about the worst catcher to handle a pitching staff

My "I'm bored and this is my offseason solution if it weren't for this cheap ass front office" trade ideas.

    To Indians
SS Corey Seager ($8.25M AAV) 2 yrs control
OF/DH Joc Pederson ($9M AAV) 1 yr control
SP Ross Stripling ($1.5M AAV) 3 yrs control
    CIF/COF/DH Edwin Rios (Pre-arb) 6 yrs control
RHP Tony Gonsolin (Pre-Arb) 6 yrs control
    C Keibert Ruiz
    SP Gerardo Carrillo
$18.75M AAV, 9.4 projected WAR added for 2020 (projections would change for Strip, Rios, Gonsolin and Pederson with trade and more than likely positively).

    To Dodgers
SS Francisco Lindor ($17M AAV) 2 yrs control
SP Mike Clevinger ($4.25M AAV) 3 yrs control

$21.25M AAV, 10 projected WAR added for 2020

Dodgers payroll up $2.5M while Indians free up an extra $2.5.

Why do the Dodgers do it?
The net gain from Lindor is small projection wise, but as many have pointed out he is here for the postseason and has a better chance of re-signing before compared to Boras boy, Seager. Losing Pederson's bat would be a blow, but I deal with that here in a second and it will be more than offset. The Dodgers have the OF depth that they can afford to move on from Pederson and he is the added prize to get Clevinger included in a deal. Strip's versatility is a loss, but the arrivals of Gray, May and Urias give the org ample break glass in case of emergency options. They add even more depth here in a second. Rios really has no future with the club at this point so they can use him in a trade to the AL to bolster their package for a club that needs offense. Ruiz, Gonsolin and Carrillo are all top 10 prospects in the club with the Dodgers using Carrillo while on his AFL high, with Ruiz being an expendable piece with their catching depth The Dodgers now have a dominant #2 to slide in behind Buehler and for the foreseeable future. The Dodgers overpay a bit in depth with a quantity of multiple very good major leaguers and major league caliber prospects that though are maybe not superstars in the makings, are the type of players that can round out a good roster.

    Why the Indians do it?
The Indians just bolstered multiple positions to stay competitive in a weak AL central. They moved their best player, by netting a very good replacement for said player while heavily upgrading their LF/DH situation with Pederson. The Indians rotation is thinned a bit as they lost their 3rd major arm in 16 months, but behind Bieber, Plesac and Civale, they have at least a front 3 to cause trouble, plus the additions of Stripling and Gonsolin makes for solid anchors to that rotation. Rios is a potential wild card here as his exit velo's and mashing in a short stint this year makes him a potential DH option or bench bat that can man the corners for a club without much pop. The prospects of Ruiz and Carrillo give them two intriguing pieces, with Ruiz leaping into their top 2. The Indians also gain an added 2o years of control in the deal with every player grading out as at least as an average contributor with Seager and Ruiz having superstar upsides and guys like Rios(power) and Gonsolin(splitter) each possessing a 70+ graded trait.

    To Red Sox
OF AJ Pollock ($12M AAV) 4 yrs control
UTL Chris Taylor ($6M AAV) 2 yrs control
    2B/SS Jeter Downs
    OF DJ Peters
    2B/SS Omar Estevez
    3B/1B Cristian Santana
18M AAV, 2.6 projected WAR added in 2020

    To Dodgers
RF Mookie Betts ($27.5M AAV) 1 yr control
SP David Price ($31M AAV) 3 yrs control
RP Matt Barnes ($3M AAV) 2 yrs control
    $15M to Dodgers in 2020
46.5M AAV, 10.2 projected WAR added in 2020

Dodgers payroll up 28.5M in 2020, while the Sox are able to reduce and drop roughly $10M below the tax.

Why do the Dodgers do it?
The Dodgers are now a significantly better team in 2020 with their second superstar addition to the lineup, but they have taken a MASSIVE blow to their immediate depth and in the next man up departments after both of these deals. Betts replaces Pederson in the OF while Price gives the Dodgers an upside risk, but he is really here to help buy down the prospect haul to land Betts. The Dodgers get out of the AJ Pollock signing and their ability to retain Gavin Lux in both deals makes Jeter Downs expendable. The sheer volume of Price's contract, mixed with the risk means the club also get's an additional solid arm to help bolster the bullpen in Barnes. After both of these deals, the Dodgers are still projected to come in $7M under the tax since they are so proud of not paying that thing. The rotation on opening day is Buehler, Clevinger, Kershaw, Maeda and Price with impact arms like Urias, May and Gray still in the system. They could also roll out a lineup of 2B Lux, RF Betts, SS Lindor, CF Bellinger, 1B Turner, 3B Muncy, C Smith, LF Verdugo. They would still have a bench of Beaty, Hernandez, Barnes, White and likely McKinstry.

Why do the Red Sox do it?
This is a way for the Sox to get out of the Price deal, immediately drop below the tax threshold AND still net them a mix of quality spects and major leaguers. The Dodgers in turn send more prospect capital back to the Sox so that they themselves can stay below the tax in 2020. The Sox could likely spin both Pollock and Taylor somewhere else if they wanted to reduce more, but giving both a chance to rebuild value would likely be the wiser decision. They net a potential 2B of the future to pair with Boegarts and each of Peters, Estevez and Santana add intriguing depth to a pretty bad system. This deal only works if their FO really is under an ultimatum to get under the tax. Sox fans probably look at this as horrible, but with Price throwing in the 80's now, they don't get to expect a massive haul, even with Betts coming in the deal as well. This is basically the Punto trade 2.0. The Dodgers get their prize and the Red Sox get a ton of payroll freed up.

So the Dodgers puts out the best lineup of this FO's tenure and likely would be one of the best of recent memory. Depth, bullpen and rotation are all much thinner for it, but the farm is still incredibly strong and the club has their two headed monster at the front to start going toe to toe in the playoffs. The Dodgers defense also goes from really fucking good to downright elite at basically every position in the field, making it likely for better success from their pitching staff in general. The club would be able to stay under the tax, but it could be tricky if deals were needed to get done later in the season. Will any of this happen? No. I just wanted to rosterbate for a while since there does not seem to be anything really going on with this club at this point and that really fucking sucks. If these deals are too light, I would not be shocked, but I still think these are win-wins for everyone involved and the Dodgers farm depth means they could add pieces where needed.

    Great post.

I like to think this is your first step in going "full dave". The post is still coherent and there are no typos, but given 30-40 more years... I think you can get there. (There are only about 5 people here who will get the reference. Good job, me)

I think you mean "better than" Ruven's weed driven posts.

He loved coming up with big-fish trade ideas. With dave, though, it was generally players who weren't even rumored to be available.

I believe that if the Dodgers get Lindor and Clev Lux and or May will be going the other way. I'd be okay with that.

Now, just days after multiple AL managers reportedly called Lindor perfect for what the Dodgers need, Passan calls Arenado " the perfect guy " for the Dodgers.

One thing is certain - the perfect Dodger is on some other team right now.
