And somehow, Showalter is still out of a job when he could be playing the role of no-nonsense Lasorda or at least land close enough for what we need to sharpen this group. Showalter is also pretty damn good at managing a bullpen. However, he's a control guy and is likely uninterested in being a puppet for any FO's. Even after having worked with the worst owner in the sport, he'd probably pass on being a puppet.

Candy ass culture..Mookie realized it from the outset. Meanwhile, I bet no one's had to tell 21 yr old Juan Soto to work harder over @ the Nats' camp

taylor .364/.500/.636 w/6 runs has been limited to 5 games/11 at bats
meanwhile pollock .160/.192/.320 and a team high 9k has the 2nd most AB on the team
while i'd love to pin this all on roberts, the FO is equally responsible
and while i understand wanting to give pollock a chance and/or that it's still just spring training, there needs to come a time where you put your best players in the lineup -- regardless of how much $$$ you've invested
mccourt was a terrible owner, ned was a below average GM, and torre was essentially retired
and yet they all collectively realized the poor investment they'd made on andruw jones and sat his ass down
pretty safe to say guggenheim has more $$$ than mccourt and yet they're still trying to force pollock in there

    edit:
with an 0-2 today, pollock is now .148/.179/.296
but yeah, let's keep throwing him out there
    idiots

    scary moment
    really hope he's okay

Rangers LF Willie Calhoun carted off to hospital after taking 95mph fastball to face
by Jack Baer | Yahoo Sports — 8 March 2020

A scary moment hit spring training on Sunday, as Texas Rangers left fielder Willie Calhoun had to be carted off the field after taking a pitch directly to his jaw.

Calhoun immediately fell to the ground after taking the 95 mph fastball from Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias. Fortunately, Calhoun seemed alert as he left with the game with a towel covering his face and was reportedly taken to a hospital in Phoenix.

Rangers manager Chris Woodward accompanied Calhoun to the hospital.

The 25-year-old Calhoun entered spring training as the team’s starting left fielder and was also in line to see time at designated hitter. Acquired from the Dodgers in the 2017 trade that sent Yu Darvish to Los Angeles, Calhoun has hit .258/.311/.468 in three seasons of part-time action with Texas.

People on Reddit are jumping up and down happy right now. I don't understand it, but 90% adamantly want Kershaw to start Opening Day, they think it would actually be the wrong decision to start the team's best pitcher. They even concede that Buehler is the best pitcher, but say Opening Day is just "ceremonial". Like, WTF? Buehler should 100% be the Opening Day starter, there is no excuse not to put your best guy in the first game.

The streak ended last season, Ryu started Opening Day. Kershaw already owns the most Opening Day starts in franchise history with 8, Drysdale and Sutton have 7. There's no big historical note to this start.

How can people still summon the energy to hero worship CK? Great pitcher and everything, but come on. We all know the deal.

I can't begin to care one way or the other on this one.
As long as a diminished Kershaw doesn't get any more long leashed 8th inning playoff innings I'm good.

Fan base growing cornier with every season that goes by - adopting the culture of the team

Totally forgot about Kersh being out with the shoulder to begin last season. Guy has to be hurt to not get the nod. So damn embarrassing for this org to be that fuckin Hollywood or " ceremonial ", as you put it. I can't even imagine where this would be headed if they were to actually win the WS. Kershaw would be the opening day starter in 2040.

That they would line Kersh up @ #1 is so unbelievably ridiculous....especially given how the season ended - with them forcing him into a relief spot. They really don't give a fuck about anything other than putting on a show. The Hollywood BS that Rendon was probably talking about, but didn't want to say. They initiated the transfer of leadership by giving Buehler Game 1 VS the Nats - and here they are throwing water on the fire
