all of their key hits were shitty pitches right down the middle. all of them.

I think we need to not do bullpen games anymore. May and Gonsolin don’t have it yet in the post

just throw out the starters and hope good things happen with Buehler, Urias and Kersh going

although I would use an opener for Urias

I know this has probably been covered, but that was a pathetic performance. Loser vibes to come out that sloppy with the chance to take full command of the series.

Although the pitching didn't do anyone any favors, I always get the feeling that after a comfortable win, the Dodgers just slack. It's never really consistent. They look like they are resting about their laurels instead of stomping on opponents heads.

The other thing is that unless you open with Urias, this opener crap with May and Gonsolin just isn't working. It almost cost us the Braves series. May and Gonsolin need another full season to get their pitching down. Urias has already paid his dues. Need a different strategy with May and Gonso.

I feel like we ask Buehler to be perfect every time he starts. Get him 5 runs and let him coast.

The bullpen game concept was always going to be a crapshoot. Throw out multiple pitchers and all it takes is one (or two last night) to fuck things up.

I don't feel too bad about that game. It should be the worst pitching matchup we face all series. I haven't been crazy about May's usage all postseason, but we were painted into a corner yesterday with no rested starters yesterday, so it was hard to see a scenario where he didn't pitch. The offense was 0-6 with RISP. Kiké boots a double play ball that leads to 2 runs, a play he makes 9 times out of 10.

The good news coming out of this, our rotation is now set for the rest of the series, and our best relievers (and Kenley FWIW) will all be well rested going into Game 3. Taylor appears to be coming out of his slump, final AB aside, and Seager is still rolling. Let's go Dodgers!

it was the price of what happened in game 7

the main reason it turned into a carousel bullpen game was because the “starters” sucked. If Tony doesn’t look shaky, he goes multiple innings like a starter. If May doesn’t look shaky, the same. Could’ve been more of a “traditional” game with at least 1 of those guys doing well but they forced it into a bullpen game so to speak. If one of those guys looked great over the last week, they become our 4th starter but they haven’t, and I at least like the action to not live or die with them. (But would be nice if they could at a minimum be 1 inning fireball relievers...)

rest of the relievers kept us in the game for the most part, which was good to see. But we can’t be giving up 5+ runs to this offense and expect to win. Defense and pitching gotta be better and gotta hope the offense can continue its at bat quality

Agree, this was the best pitching decision on the table for Game 2. The next best option was to pitch Buehler on short rest, but if we do that and lose, it could be a series changing blow. Maybe if he doesn't have the blisters, that's the move to go with. Another option is to pitch Urias, but he was in the same boat as May/Gonsolin having pitched 3 days ago, and someone needed to be held back. Urias gives us our best chance in Game 4, so that's the right move. The only other option was to add someone new to the roster for Game 2, like Mitch White, but I don't see that as better than trying to go with Gonsolin and May.

At the end of the day, this was the best choice. We lost. Gotta pick it up on Friday and crush some Rays.

yep and if ONE of Gonsolin/May have a decent outing, we win and steal that game. That’s a bet worth taking

but like you said, if we would’ve gone with Buehler or Urias and lost, that’s a back breaker that sets up nasty 3 game set. We have our 3 going, and although I’m still not extremely confident all 3 will pitch perfect, it’s basically: everyone’s gotta do their job, no choking, do what you do, and things fall into place.

If we win just 2 out of the next 3, it sets up a chance to steal Game 6 with a rematch of Snell and (hopefully) a more rested May/Gonsolin. And if we lose that rematch, we have our best possible pitching lined up for a Game 7 with Buehler on full rest and Urias on 3-days. The pitching couldn't be lined up any better from this point on.

They capitalized on our mistakes while we couldn’t hit for four innings and we were still close. I’m strangely confident about this series. Just gotta get it done

We just need to execute pitches, I have faith in Urias, Kershaw, and Buehler doing that. Luckily that’s 4 of our next 5 starters.

    Three, I count.
    Or you mean Buehler twice?

If we only go with those three than at least one is making a game 6 start and then it’s all hands on deck if we go 7

i just think if you bring in any pitcher and he gets three outs he should get a chance to get more
if he walks, gives up a hit, or looks shady then pull him, i know racist
but i see no reason not to ride a hot hand based on the fear of the numbers or the opposition lineup
if floro comes in and gets 3 guys out i let him face a 4th and more if he continues to get people out
great job pulling gonsolin but then leave may in to give up 3 when he clearly had no more control than tony?
atl had great success riding the hot hand of certain relievers
we got to them later in the series but they put themselves in a position to control the series
the other thing is i think some bunts against guys like snell would have shaken it up a little
and when you are behind three or four runs don't you need baserunners?
could have been a different game if there had been someone out there when smith and seager belted late game hrs

Is there any chance you bring back Walker for a game 6 start on short rest or does the blister rule that out entirely?? You'd need to give Urias game 7 on short rest as well in that situation.

Not too familiar with how the Rays have used their rotation this postseason. Would they bring Glasnow and Snell back on short rest for games 4 and 5 considering they're young and don't think they have any nagging injuries I've heard about. I just wonder if they'd do it so that Snell lines up against Kershaw in game 5 instead of game 6 where we're likely to throw a bullpen type game again. If not, is game 4 just a bullpen game for the Rays?
