Great addition for the pen a year from now. Not a lot has happened this winter, but it seems that most of the things that have gone down have been to our benefit.

The Nats acquired 1B Josh Bell from the Pirates today for 2 prospects. The deal on the surface looks like an underpay by the Nats as one prospect is deemed pretty shitty as player and well... person. The other is years away and while he has solid upside, it’s gonna be years til anyone sees him. Bell is an interesting buy low candidate for the Nats, but he’s still been a very mediocre to awful for most of his career. While generally being an ok hitter (great one in 2019), his defense even at 1B is considered pretty much catastrophic. I honestly wonder if the Nats are preparing for the UDH.

I mean we already have a full rotation. Padres needed this more than we do.

And are we still doubting the front office after landing Mookie and finally getting us a ring?

Letting our red headed step child get Snell and combine hard-ons might have been something they should have made a little extra effort to prevent, is all I'm saying. Snell's deal, the TB connection (unless we just killed it LOL) and it being The Pads would have been worth a higher prospect, if they were in fact talking.

If you are basing what he did against us in the playoffs as a barometer for the return, you’d say it was PROBABLY a bit light. Looking at Snell overall the last couple of years since his CY Young year, you’d say that’s a HUGE return for the Rays. Snell is a weird case, he’s locked up for cheap for 3 years and he’s had 1 absolutely spectacular season surrounded by 2 solid seasons and 2 meh ones. You could argue based on how he performed in the playoffs that he was finally getting going and likely would have turned what was a solid season into another great one. Still his FIP was pretty bad in a SSS size and everything else aligned with the rest of his career, making 2018 look more like a potential outlier than what to expect. Regardless, the Padres have a FORMIDABLE front 5 from the looks of it in 2022. Their great farm has taken some blows in the past few months, but they still appear to have one of the deepest systems in the game. The Dodgers have an eager opponent in the division and the club now has an even bigger need to beef up the lineup with a power bat from the right side.

    Yeah.
    It only took forever.
Totally excepting alll that they do, or have done, as baseball's ultimate organizational excellence now because of a championship is pure folly, imo.
They always should be doubted. Resting on your laurels, or complacent half-stepping, is an invitation to future mediocrity.
Great moves, like Mookie alone, does not a dynasty make.

The Padres are close to signing IF Ha-Seong Kim out of the KBO. Kim would expectedly move to 2B with Cronenworth heading to LF. Interesting move as they do have Pham in LF already and he was supposedly helpful in the Blake Snell trade. Guess that means Pham would head to DH, if it is in play. Kim is an interesting player that many expect to do well, though he is far from a guarantee and I’ve seen some write ups from folks that watch the KBO closely that feel he could really struggle against big league velo. If anything, the Padres are really going for it.

Multiple reports saying the Padres are close to acquiring Yu Darvish from the Cubs... What the fuck is going on?
