I lived in SD and met lots of Padres fans. None of them would ever defect to the Dodgers.

Funny enough, there actually was a SD/LAD fan who used to post here and play both sides. Even better..he actually said he was proud of the Giants for winning 3 WS. How about that for size? Certainly left an indelible mark with me :laff:

Of course I don't profess to know more SD fans than you or if this or that particular person or kid in this or that particular crowd will switch sides. However, we both know that SoCal as a whole has never even had a MLB dynasty, so it's sort of hard to measure that effect one way or the other. Which means uncertainty. And perhaps it's safe to say that SD's ownership group would rather not discover the residuals of being left flat in the road

lived there a few years and you might be right
know for sure there's legions of Dodger "fans" that would suddenly turn up in Tatis jerseys

Cheap out. Guggs has wasted so much coin on mediocre starting pitching, Cubans, injury prone guys like Pollock, luxury tax, etc. during their tenure. Now they're gonna close the vault on the heart of the club and the clutchest Dodger hitter of them all? When they finally get to the doorstep of being a dynasty? Obviously they're not cheap. Have fought that battle here from the side you're on now. Have said for years that they'd go out and land a big fish. Always thought it'd be Harper or Stanton, but Mookie works. Even better. Much better. Still, if they allow Turner to leave over an extra year of salary, with all the creative ways to pay this guy and the depth they have with Muncy/Rios to help optimize his play as he ages....given all the exceptions they've made over the years for players with warts, handing them lucrative deals, yeah, it's cheaping out on Turner. Funny thing is I was exactly where you are now a couple years ago, except it was Kersh and his stuff wasn't just fading, but he was doing his choke routine as well. And I'm far from the only fan that hated the Kersh extension @ $30MM+ per year, but after a WS win guess what? IDGAF bro. And that's knowing he'll probably choke again

Anyway I feel like we've already done this dance several times. My stance isn't changing. What exactly did we get out of old man Rich Hill by year 3 of the lucrative deal that he signed at the age of 37? About what most expected. Didn't even get 60 innings and he was bad in the post. Hill made nearly $19MM that season. We made it through that bullshit....I think people will be fine with Turner @ 3yrs if it has to be that way. I mean, really..what are ya gonna do if they give Turner a 3rd year? Boo? Think the FO didn't expect Hill's old ass to wilt by year 3? They forked it over anyway. They made an exception. Make another one. This time for an actual all time Dodger whose number will likely never be worn again after he retires and not a bunch of randos

    Player A - 1,267 career plate appearances VS LHP as a right handed batter - .325/.381/.475 - 27 HRs - age 32

    Player B - 1,110 career plate appearances VS LHP as a right handed batter - .301/.364/.487 - 33 HRs - age 27

Player B has essentially slugged the same VS RHP throughout his career, .488

Player A hasn't slugged VS RHP for the most part - one of a couple major factors when it comes to the potential price of his employment.

Player A also has a sub-.700 career OPS on the road and has put his numbers up in uber hitter friendly home ballparks for 95% of his career.

Player B has slugged .463 over 6 postseason series with a .790 OPS

Player A has slugged .424 over 7 postseason series with a .764 OPS

*Both players have multiple gold glove awards to their name.

*LAD is currently in discussions with Player A....and I am not excited for Pollock 2.0

Interested teams suggest Trevor Bauer seeks a 5- or 6-year deal for $36M to $40M (about $200M). Bauer is coming off a brilliant Cy Young season but the star market is slow. The record AAV is $36M by Bauer’s UCLA teammate Gerrit Cole. Agent Rachel Luba declines comment on talks.

    bauer response
Jon thank god for you. I’m learning so much about my free agency from your tweets! Keep em coming! Also @AgentRachelLuba is her twitter tag in case you want to tag her next time.

Bauer is such a fucking D Bag. The more I read about him, the more I want nothing to do with him. This is on top of the numerous people I know that have told me enough about how big a piece of shit this dude is.

I find Bauer's Twitter Troll schtick tiring. From what I can tell he has a personal grudge against Jon Heyman, and he took exception to the last line of Heyman's tweet. According to a follow up tweet from Bauer his agent was never contacted for comment. His persona is very attention-seeking... but I guess that's marketing?

The silver lining is the Dodgers likely won't entertain a 5-6 year contract for him, so his schtick will be someone else's problem.

As a guy who makes his living on radio and in marketing I love Bauer. He completely controls his own narrative. He leaves nothing to question.
If people consider him a dick it's probably because he's different. Baseball needs more people like him. The old boys league where everything has to be done the old boys way has alienated the modern fan. Bauer has embraced the modern marketing.

I feel like whoever signs him is gonna regret it in a year

Dude is a good pitcher, but not worthy of all that cash.

Honestly the Angels should just sign him and grab another starter and call it a day.

I don't think the Dodgers should sign him because they have all sorts of arms but if he is willing to do a two year deal then all teams should be involved. He might be proud enough to go one or two years and gamble on revenue going back up.

At one point he said he was going to only sign one-year contracts for his whole career. We’ll see.

I love me some Justin Turner (some homo), but if the Dodgers didn't retire his number for a previous third baseman that wore it, and I'm not talking Wilson Betemit, they're not retiring it now.
