I'm assuming Shohei get be slotted as either a position player or pitcher whenever he is on a team that makes the playoffs. How much added value does this add to him?

    Pitchers:

    Kershaw
    Urias
    Anderson
    Gonsolin

    Phillips
    Vesia
    Graterol
    Almonte
    Ferguson
    Price
    Martin
    Kahnle
    Kimbrel

That's my guess at the 13. That leaves Heaney, May, Pepiot, Treinen (IL) and Bickford (IL) off the roster. Really wish Blake was well.

I just looked up Gallo's postseason numbers, hoping at least he brings a lot of experience to the team. Surprised to see he's had a mere 4 ABs in his career (O-fer). So much for that.

I don't disagree. Just don't think Roberts can say the same.

I'd take Price and Heaney over either May (can't throw strikes) and Kimbrel (duh).

Wish May was farther along in his recovery. He only pitched well against shitty lineups (Marlins and Giants). Was ineffective against the Pads twice and the Dbacks once. Now he's coming off a long layoff with an achy back. He's obviously a big part of the future. Don't think he's ready to contribute this postseason.

Much to my dismay, I don't think Roberts is even considering leaving Kimbrel off the roster. He probably thinks he's found a role where Kimbrel can contribute based on Craig's success in the few non-save appearances he had down the stretch. I will acknowledge that his final ERA of 3.75 is near his season low.

I can't see Roberts leaving Price off either. Despite a pretty good season statistically, I still don't have a ton of confidence when he's on the mound. But he does bring the experience that makes Davey wet. And the facts that it's probably his last season and he missed 2020 - Roberts won't deny him the opportunity.

Regarding May, I saw a recent headline that indicated that Roberts challenged May to prove that he belongs in this postseason, but I didn't read the article and don't see how May can prove anything with no games left. I agree with fsu that his control is not where it needs to be to help the team right now. But what does Dave think? Who knows.

Heaney certainly had his moments this year, and he could provide value in long relief, but it may simply be a case of no spots available. Maybe he sits the NLDS and then is needed in the next series. Again, we'll have to wait to see.

At the least, I hope SD can take 1. The Mets are trying to save deGrom for game 1 in LA and hoping they can beat the Padres 2-0. Scherzer tonight and probably Bassitt tomorrow if they win tonight.

Don't want to face deGrom twice in a 5 game series.

Padres best bet is tonight with Darvish. Snell only impresses me when he's facing the Dodgers, so I can't see him coming up big tomorrow.

hope it goes three long (extra inning) games and both teams completely deplete their bullpens
would laugh if the mets held degrom back only to lose the series without even using him
would laugh even harder if that pussy mcneil got drilled a few times… fucken coward
that said, fuck the padres too

I found the article regarding May. So if it's accurate, Roberts wants to see how May pitches a simulated game before deciding on the roster. A) Does a simulated game really indicate how his control would be in a real pressure situation? I think not. B) Whom would he replace? Price? Kimbrel? Ferguson who's been a little inconsistent down the stretch? I don't know.

One thought... since NLDS is best of five, and assuming that Gonsolin is the fourth starter, would he be needed in this series or are the Dodgers likely to go 1-2-3 and then back to 1-2 if needed?

    agree with @fsudog21
if you can’t throw strikes, there’s no use for you on the postseason roster

A few tidbits from the Athletic.......

Taylor will take live BP tomorrow. Says his neck is responding well to treatment and he thinks he'll be ready for the first series.

Friedman says a decision on the Game 1 starter hasn't been made.

May and Treinen are both making "positive steps." May reportedly pitched well in a simulated game on Wed. If May makes the roster, it's hoped he will be built up to go three or four innings.

No decision has been made re. Kimbrel's place on the postseason roster, according to Freidman.
