ironically, this was posted on mlbtraderumors.com this morning... August Trades By Ben Nicholson-Smith [August 1 at 8:37am CST] Teams can still deal after the July 31st trade deadline passes. This MLBTR Glossary entry explains how trading in August works: Teams have to pass players through revocable waivers to trade them after the July 31st deadline. Players acquired after August 31st can't play in the postseason. Teams will often put most of their players on waivers to determine interest, since they don't have to give up every player who's claimed. Unclaimed players can be traded to any club in August (or even September). Teams don't have to trade players who are claimed. They can hand the player and his salary over for nothing. If a team places a player on waivers after he is claimed, but not traded, the team loses the right to pull its player back. In other words, the waivers are revocable at first, but not revocable afterwards. Clubs have two days to deal claimed players, but they can only negotiate a trade with one team. If only one team claims a player, he can only be dealt to that team. If more than one team claims a player, he can only be traded to the claiming team in his league with the worst record. If a player's only claimed by teams in the other league, he can only be dealt to the claiming team with the worst record. Teams cannot pass players on the disabled list through waivers.
with Gordon and Kennedy hurt makes sense. We have gwynn and Rivera for outfield. Infield is different. Not much depth even if Uribe is nothing more than a corpse on the field
Why is Kennedy not the one that was cut? Is it against the rules because he's on the DL? Seriously why not cut him. For every reason someone could give me to cut Abreau, I can match it with Kennedy.
He's owed 25 million in years 2013-2015, and his buyout is 12.5 mill in 2016. No thanks, the Phillies must have been hammered when they gave him that contract.
He's owed 25 million a year through 2015, with a 27.5 million option for 2016 (12.5 million buyout). That's a mandatory 87.5 million for a 33 year old. That's a lot of paper...
Yeah, I get wanted to spend money but man is that a risk. Cliff Lee is fucking awesome but 90 million tied up to him and with CK raises coming, it kinda takes you out of the SP market and you better hope Lee stays healthy/productive at his age. I mean, I'd be ecstatic if he's a Dodger but I wouldn't be mad about passing up on him
When does CK have the chance to get more money? Harrang, Cap and Lily will be gone by the end of next year, won't they?
Fuck it though lets claim him. I highly doubt the Phillies just dump him on the Dodgerrs so give them a mid level spec and have them take some money in case.
