So I now have a man crush on Walker Buehler after seeing him pitch last night. Averaged 96 on the stadium gun. Was a little wild at the outset but did settle down without the huge K numbers however but that was perfectly fine. Don't know what the plan is with him with regards to pitch count but I hope they stretch him out some more soon. As for the other players I was impressed with DJ Peters and this guy.

He hit a bomb last night to the opposite field. Both guys are big guys and Peters is a matinee idol in waiting, very handsome guy (no homo) with flowing locks.

The word on Isabel is that he is brutal with the glove at 1B, so he is in all likelihood a trade chip. The dude also needs to cut his strikeouts down, BIG TIME. Were they making good contact with Buehler or were they just getting pieces?

So while everyone has been talking about Bellinger and the changes that Calhoun has made in the field, my guy continues to fly somewhat under the radar. At age 20 in AAA, Alex Verdugo is hitting a solid .368/.431/.509, with an 8/7 K/BB ratio. He still has not hit any HR's, but he is looking more and more like the real deal. I still feel the HR's will come in time, the dude is built and he makes some loud contact, it is just of the line drive variety for now. Still about a month away from his 21st birthday and the dude is raking in AAA, hopefully our #2 hitter ahead of Seager for years to come.

Only 1 real hard hit to right field by a right handed batter so they weren't getting around on him. It was the sound of the pitches that was impressive. As for Isabel I was just surprised that I have never heard of him. I figured K's would be an issue with that guy due to his size as for defensively I didn't really notice him which was good. I left early due to the screaming baby in front of us and the guy behind us talking to an usher loudly about baseball cards, lol. Went there just for Buehler.

Hey, if he can get even close to that line in the majors, I wouldn't care if he never goes yard. We could really use a line drive hitter at the top of the lineup.

Isabel looks like it hurts him to move, reminded me of Vlad at the end of his career.

Wait... the #2 hitter should be the best hitter.
What Verdugo needs to do is hit lefties or else he is another halfplayer.

Calhoun(3-5) and Verdugo(2-4) continued to rake in today's game. Willie connected on his first HR as well as a double. He lost a good bit of weight in the offseason, so I would not be surprised if he loses a bit of his oomph with the bat. If it means a .300+BA, 18-20 HR's, shit ton of doubles and him playing passable defense, I am all for it.

Edwin Rios had a 5-5 night in Tulsa and is off to a nice start. He was one of those make or break guys for me as he has a big bat, but there is length to his swing. He has apparently made some adjustments, including slimming down, and is looking pretty good thus far.

That Cuban 2B Fernandez we signed is playing very well in AA. Unfortunately they dont play him vs lefties much.
Rios has gotten better every year. He is better vs righties but his lefty weakness does not seem to be as pronounced. He is horrible at taking walks and better be a guy that hits lots of homers and doubles with a decent average or have a high average to justify his lack of walks. Or else he wont make it.

We should try Tim Locastro in case Kike goes down (since Kike is playing well finally). He has also been improving every year and has played most of his career as a 2B/ SS but has had like 20 games in CF and another bunch in the coroner OF and 1B. And he has a history of being a real good hitter vs lefties. Plus he has some speed so could be a leadoff. Probably and upgrade most nights over Gutley.

Verdugo is worse than Joc or Reddick at their worst vs lefties. The only way I can see this team starting Verdugo is if he either improves that defect or Joc is injured for the season or traded. If not then Reddick is probably a good similarity to him as a player.

Willie cant hit lefties very well either, and his defense is still TBD if he can even field 2B.

Our hitting prospects will not be saviours in the positions we most need which are positions that hit lefties.
We need to trade some of them like Bellinger and Calhoun before they get exposed in the bigs vs lefties.

Calhoun 3 - 5 with a HR. Verdugo 2 more hits. Jair Jurrjens now 2 - 0. Today 6 innings allowing 4 hits, 4 k's and 1 walk, ERA 2.78 Isabel with his 6th HR this year for Rancho.

Sounds like the triple that preceded the ER was due to a really bad read by Diaz. Buehler apparently also touched 100 in the first. He's not going deep into games yet, but it's time for him to head to Tulsa. Reports are that the hitters just look completely baffled by him.

Quakes’ Will Smith named California League Player of the Week
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 26 minutes ago

High-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes catcher Will Smith was named the California League Player of the Week for games April 17-23. Smith was selected out of Louisville by the Los Angeles Dodgers at No. 32 overall in the 2016 Draft.

In the seven games for which he was honored, Smith went 11-for-25, batting .440/.548/.920 with three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and five walks. He added four stolen bases to boot, without being caught.

Two of Smith’s home runs and four RBI came Sunday in a win over the Inland Empire 66ers (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim affiliate).

On Wednesday, Smith extended his hitting streak, which began April 15, to 11 games with a triple in his first at-bat. The 22-year-old entered the day batting .327/.433/.582 in 16 games this season.

Smith is similar to Austin Barnes in the athleticism he offers behind the plate, versatility to play the infield, and offensive approach. He was ranked the organization’s No. 13 prospect heading into the 2017 season by Jared Massey.

Smith is the second Quakes player to receive recognition this season from the Cal League. Right-hander Mitchell White was named the circuit’s Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the first 11 days.
