Have a great feeling that everyone is overestimating the price for Darvish.

texas is saying they'd have to be blown away with a deal to trade him
probably posturing since he's in his walk year
i'd offer something with calhoun and/or alvarez as the headliners
no way i'd give up verdugo or buehler

    from olney...

Andrew Friedman, head of baseball operations for the Dodgers, and Texas GM Jon Daniels
Dating back to the years when Friedman ran the Rays, the two have had a lot of discussions but no deals of significance. They executed just three minor deals. Friends of both have speculated for years that the negotiation styles of the two are so similar that it probably makes deal-making more difficult, like two brothers using the same strategy in a board game. This is noteworthy in a week in which the Rangers are listening to offers for Yu Darvish leading up to the trade deadline, and the Dodgers’ interest in adding a starting pitcher could be nudged by sudden uncertainty about Clayton Kershaw. Daniels has a player whom Friedman could certainly use in the weeks ahead. There is an X factor. Farhan Zaidi is the Dodgers’ general manager, working under Friedman, and he is the person dealing head-to-head with Daniels. It could well be that the Dodgers don’t finish a trade for Darvish because they’re not interested in paying the asking price.

I wouldn't either. But I could be convinced to give up Alvarez and Calhoun.

I think Alvarez/Calhoun plus others would get the job done. Unfortunately I think MGT is not giving up Alvarez.

I'd much rather give them up for someone with more years of control, but whatevs. The right pitcher isn't out there this year but this year also happens to be our best opportunity.

    totally agree
calhoun is destined to be a dh
and alvarez continues to have command issues
both have huge potential upside, but both are works in progress
    offer calhoun/alvarez/and scraps for darvish
if texas wants more, walk away

Hate to say it but we are the Los Angeles Dodgers......

Teams will always try to rape us for more prospects for player trades.

Free Agents always cost us more money.

Even when we want to trade players that are no longer useful to us and are to others we don't get good value.

Calhoun is a lock to be a stud DH in the AL that can also backup 2B and LF or pinch hit in NL stadia.
They should shine Calhoun into a diamond as the headliner to the Rangers and start using Alvarez as a closer in the minors. That combined with his poor stats may mute interest in him for a bit.
And the nerds offer up Brock Stewart and one of our stud catching specs to go along with Calhoun.

According to Ken Rosenthal on Facebook (at least I think it's him )

"Count the Dodgers out of the Justin Verlander sweepstakes, not that they were ever in. The Dodgers are trying to get away from Verlander-type contracts, particularly as they face ongoing luxury-tax concerns."

    If Verlander is out
And the Astros and Yankees are fighting over Gray
    They what?
    Darvish?
Here's hoping the Yankees win Gray..maybe he does make some sense for them since Cashman's done a solid job of clearing payroll.
Maybe he's just going to be a little more careful about how he spends NYY's money and Darvish doesn't represent what they want to spend on after the season?
