Yu Darvish’s 10-team no-trade list, per sources: BAL, BOS, CHC, CLE, COL, CWS, DET, OAK, PIT, TOR.

Bowden is saying the same thing in that the Dodgers are out on Verlander. Don't want that contract on the books and I get why. Trading an AGon or Kazmir in the deal only gives short term relief and the final year of that deal could be a burden. Yes the Dodgers are rich, but the new rules with the tax would hit the Dodgers in more places besides their pocket books. Only way I'd be good with the Dodgers doing that deal is Kazmir going back, $10 mill coming from the Tigers in 2019 and no go for Verdugo, Calhoun, Buehler, Alvarez or Kendall.

Heard somewhere on MLBRadio that the Dodgers prime target is likely Sonny Gray. The Dodgers are focusing on controllable pitching and don't appear super focused on rentals. Understandable as focusing on Darvish would be foolish with Daniels being an unpredictable GM and all. I could see the Rangers going 3-2 up to the deadline and he'd think they were buyers suddenly.

Considering its been Morosi who has heavily pushed that the Dodgers are after Verlander, and Morosi is mostly connected with Detroit, my conspiracy filled guess is that Detroit is trying to use the Dodgers as leverage to drive up Verlander's price but they aren't really interested

I've been thinking about the same numbers, Kazmir's contract + $10 mill is where it would be worth it.

I don't think we can trade Kendall until after the WS. Maybe as a PTBNL? But I'm not sure.

My understanding is that you can now trade players after signing them as the PTBNL thing was fucking with some guys development.

The rule was "one year after signing", but it was recently changed to "after the WS"... did it change again?

You have it correct, you still have to wait until at least after the World Series. Or else teams could essentially trade draft picks (which I think would actually be cool but is currently not allowed for some reason)

    Answer to our prayers

The Cubs have designated lefty Brett Anderson for assignment after activating him from the 60-day DL, per a club announcement (via Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago, on Twitter).

    • Padres chairman Ron Fowler suggested today in a radio appearance on The Mighty 1090 that he doesn’t really expect the team to end up dealing lefty Brad Hand (h/t Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune). “Other things being equal right now, I don’t see us moving him, because we value him more than what’s being offered and we think he could be part of the team for the foreseeable future,” Fowler stated. That said, he acknowledged the team remains open to working out a deal, calling it “a very fluid situation.”

Kershaw to recovering without pressure of timetable
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago
    ck.png
Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers met with back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday, yet the consultation did not produce a timetable. At least not one that the Dodgers are electing to publicly reveal.

“A strain for one person can be a certain time away and another person is different,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained Tuesday. “As opposed to a conventional surgery, where there’s a lot more data to say it is a certain timeline. Clayton, I know feels very comfortable and confident that he doesn’t want to put a timetable on himself.”

An unconfirmed report suggested the Dodgers would be without their ace for at least four weeks. Roberts previously intimated the projection was reasonable.

The plan for Kershaw is several days of rest without baseball activity to allow for pain to dissipate. “He won’t pick up a baseball until he’s asymptomatic,” Roberts said.

“When that is, I don’t know. I know he’s on medication right now and it’s a Level 1 core deal, which he’s very familiar with. We’ll know more as his medicine takes, and we’ll go from there.”

Roberts maintained the injury cropped up without Kershaw experiencing any symptoms or discomfort prior to a warmup pitch on Sunday. Roberts also reiterated last season’s injury — a mild herniated disc — is not part of the equation. “It’s a muscle strain,” Roberts reiterated. “Really encouraging for us.”

Although this now marks two consecutive years in which Kershaw’s back has betrayed him, the Dodgers are confident in the approach and changes that were made in light of the disc injury. “Clayton and the medical staff, they’ve vetted everyone. There’s been a lot of conversations on what he should do, can do, shouldn’t do, can’t do,” Roberts said.

“He’s abbreviated his regiment from the offseason to in-season and curtailed a lot of the workload. Knowing Clayton like we all do, no one works harder. There are going to be unforeseen things that do happen. Our guys have done everything they possibly can to minimize and prevent it.”
