Funny you mentioned Ford. That commercial almost singlehandedly turned me off of Fords in general.

    Hate it.
Not trying to hear any excuses from SFG fans or their admirers..they sucked with him ( 0-4 record in his starts), they're gonna suck without him.

    Couple thoughts

Reddick 375 wOBA so far. Happens every time.

Thank God Ethier is off the books after this year. I guess why they did it but that contract was horrible.

We didn't have CK for a long stretch last year and still won the division. No excuses from those fuckers.

True, but I'm commenting on that trend of 'established' pickups absolutely sucking for half a season with us and then immediately getting back to normal the next season for a new team

    e.g. Shane Victorino

    Sigh....
Joc Pederson to the 10 Day DL.
It sounds minor and as it was expected earlier in the off season, teams are pouncing on that 10 day option for guys who are probably going to be down for just 4-5 days.

Thames with 2 more tonight which makes 10 for the season 7 against the REDS! You'd think they would walk his ass more.

Many of you have gotten your wish, according to Dave Roberts, Urias is here to stay.

I think it was pretty much a given that Urias was going to be a mainstay in this rotation for the majority of this season.
That his stint in AAA was merely a numbers game to see how our veteran pitchers and combo pitchers like Wood and Stripling who can start and relieve work out. Now we kinda know where we stand so Urias can step in.

    This is how we stand.

    1. Kershaw is obvious. Gonna be the rock all season unless he gets injured again.

2/3. McCarthy/Hill are both old pros that you can count on to give you a quality start and even perform to near Ace levels whenever they are healthy. Unfortunately you cant count on them to be healthy at any given time. Hill can be in and out due to blisters. McCarthy is more of a serious injury risk, but at the same time once he is healthy physically and has his mental health in order he should be good for the duration of the season. Until he injures something again. Thats why right now Hill is the #3 and McCarthy the 2. Plus the fact that Hill usually pitches an inning less per game than regulars.

    4. Ryu will continue to improve as the season progresses and will be a solid piece down the stretch. Fatboy been out so long its practically like he is a rookie again. He had those two good full years as a starter. Then 2 years of nothing.

5/6. Maeda/Wood are both pitching horribly as starters. Maeda went from being a guy who pitched an inning less than regulars (like a Hill) to now pitching two innings less than regulars. Last year he was very inconsistent and had as many horrible games as he had really good ones. The rest were an average quality start to mediocre at best. Maybe he would transition to a decent relief guy. That way his contract would be a lot cheaper. Or he might prove an interesting trade target for a pitching starved team.
Wood has been good in relief at least before his horrible start. He would be the designated emergency starter. And since we have a lot of injuries we will be in emergency mode quite a bit. He was better than Maeda last year IMO but is still a dude who is a bit inconsistent. I think Wood should eventually take Maeda's job as he can at least go 6/7 innings half the time.

That's how the team was set as Urias comes in thanks to Hill going down.

It will then be... Kershaw, McCarthy, Urias, Ryu, Maeda, Wood.
Because we are going with a supposed 6th man rotation.
When Hill comes back he should slide in behind Urias as the 4.
Making Ryu the 5. And then a decision has to be made between Maeda and Wood.
I think next year 4/5 should be Ryu and Wood if they become solid 3.50 to 4.00 ERA type guys that can go 6/7 innings half the time.
McCarthy/Hill as the 3. Whichever one of the two is healthy and pitching well. If both are healthy and well then awesome but it bumps out Wood or Ryu from the top 5.
Urias the 2 and Kershaw the 1.
And then midway through the season Yadier Alvarez takes somebodies job.
