    • Julio Urias faced live hitters this week for the first time since undergoing major shoulder surgery last June, tweets Pedro Moura of The Athletic. Dodgersmanager Dave Roberts told reporters that the left-hander’s fastball reached as high as 92 mph in that session, and while that’s not quite as high as the 93.1 mph he averaged last season before surgery, it’s an encouraging sign in the early stages of his return to throwing. At the time of Urias’ procedure, Dodgers president of baseball ops Andrew Friedman suggested that the prized young lefty’s rehab could be as long as 14 months. It still seems possible that Urias could return before season’s end, though the team will undoubtedly exercise caution with a player of his upside. Urias had one of the most meteoric rises through the minors of any pitcher in recent history, debuting in the Majors as a 19-year-old in 2016.

I agree to an extent, they've done such a horrible job developing starters post-Kershaw that I believe their top pitcher in-terms of WAR is Kenley. That said, if we were talking about deGrom (obviously not a rental), take May, Diaz/Verdugo, Ruiz/Smith and a 4th piece (Lux? White?)

In your opinion any chance your proposal nets Thor who is younger?

I would have a hard time believing it would because you get an extra year of control and he's like 4+ years younger, gotta think any deal starts with Buehler.

    DODGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT
Ruiz homers twice, May strikes out 12
By Eric Stephen | True Blue LA — 8 hours ago
    [IMG]
Thursday night saw lots of offense among Dodgers minor league affiliates, and some standout performances both at the plate and on the mound from many of the names you might have seen in recent trade rumors.

    PLAYER OF THE DAY
Catcher Keibert Ruiz broke out for the Drillers against Northwest Arkansas with two home runs and a double, driving in four runs in Tulsa’s 14-3 road shellacking. Ruiz also walked, but the hits were a welcome sight for the switch-hitter who was 18 for his last 102, hitting just .176/.257/.245 in his previous 29 games before Thursday night. Ruiz is hitting .251/.315/.397 on the season even with those struggles, and has also struck out just 20 times in 270 plate appearances (a minuscule 7.4% rate). The season-long performance gains even more perspective when realizing that Ruiz doesn’t turn 20 until next Friday.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (AAA)
Oklahoma City in their first game back after the Triple-A All-Star break fell to the Round Rock Express (Rangers), 8-4. Daniel Corcino allowed six runs and couldn’t get out of the fourth inning. Alex Verdugo hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat back from the break, and Jake Peter added a two-run shot in the fifth. Zach Neal pitched scoreless ball in 3⅔ innings of relief.

    TULSA (AA)
The Drillers did most of the drilling on Thursday in their 14-3 road victory over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals). In addition to Ruiz’s big night, Tulsa also got home runs from second baseman Drew Jackson and first baseman Luke Raley. Yusniel Diaz had four hits, including two doubles, and a walk in the blowout. Diaz is 18-for-40 (.450) with seven extra-base hits and seven walks in 10 July games for a tidy .532 on-base percentage. All that offense was in support of Mitch White, who pitched his best game of the season. White struck out six and pitched scoreless ball into the seventh, when he allowed a lone unearned run.

    RANCHO CUCAMONGA (A)
Dustin May struck out a career-high 12 in the Quakes’ 8-4 win over the Lancaster JetHawks (Rockies), continuing a strong run for the 20-year-old right-hander. May pitched 6⅔ innings in what was actually his shortest outing in his last four starts. He allowed three runs, two of which were earned, and owns a 3.09 ERA this season that ranks third in the California League. Fellow 20-year-old Gavin Lux continued his hot hitting with a home run, a double and a single. Lux has a 14-game hitting streak, during which he is hitting .383/.424/.550. Marshall Kasowski struck out four in 1⅓ scoreless innings of relief. Since joining the Quakes, the 23-year-old right-hander — drafted in the 13th round in 2017 — has a 0.95 ERA with 35 strikeouts and eight walks in just 19 innings. Counting his time in Great Lakes this year Kasowski has 84 strikeouts in 47 innings and a 44.7% K rate.

    GREAT LAKES (A)
The Midwest League isn’t necessarily known for offense, but the Loons busted out on Thursday night with a season-best 18 hits in a 10-1 road win over the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners). Every Great Lakes batter scored a run and eight of the nine batters had a hit. The only Loon without a hit was 2018 fifth-round pick Devin Mann, who walked, scored and drove in a run. Fellow 2018 Dodgers draftees excelled on Thursday, with third baseman Luke Heyer (eighth round) doubling twice and singling, and left fielder Josh McLain (ninth round) 3-for-5 with a run scored.

    OGDEN (ROOKIE)
The Raptors got drubbed 11-4 by the Missoula Batters (Diamondbacks), but Ogden did get home runs from both Drew Avans and Ronny Brito in the loss.

    TRANSACTIONS
    • AAA:
Tim Locastro was activated from the disabled list, and pitcher Madison Younginer was placed on the DL retroactive to Monday.
    • A: Great Lakes placed pitcher Victor Gonzalez on the disabled list, and pitcher Riley Richert was promoted to the Loons from Ogden.

    DODGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT
Farmer, Verdugo and Rios star in Oklahoma City win
by Craig Minami | True Blue LA — 2 hours ago
    [IMG]
Three of the four full-season Dodger affiliates won on Friday while their Rookie league teams split their four games.

    Player of the day
Kyle Farmer, who has had key doubles for Los Angeles in both 2017 and 2018, hit three doubles for Oklahoma City on Friday. One double drove in two runs that ensured their lead for the remainder of their game.

    Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Dodgers took an early lead and never looked back winning 8-5 over the Round Rock Express (Rangers). Alex Verdugo had two hits and scored three runs. Kyle Farmer hit three doubles and drove in two runs. And Edwin Rios also had two hits and drove in three. Tyler Pill pitched five innings and gave up four runs (three earned) but it was enough to get the win. Brian Schlitter picked up his 12th save. Travis Taijeron and Angelo Mora both homered for the Dodgers.

    Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers got down by three runs after two innings but an unlikely player homered to complete their comeback 5-4 win against the NW Arkansas Naturals (Royals). Wes Darvill, who had not homered in organized baseball since 2015 and who had only hit 11 in over 1900 at bats, hit his first home run in 2018 to break a 4-4 tie in the eighth inning. Errol Robinson and Drew Jackson also homered for the Drillers. Luke Raley went 3-for-5 with two doubles and DJ Peters had two hits. Andrew Istler got the win in relief and Dylan Baker recorded his eighth save.

    Class-A Rancho Cucamonga
The Quakes traveled to nearby San Bernardino to defeat the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels) 5-0 on Friday. Parker Curry pitched five scoreless innings and struck out five. Ben Holmes and Jason Richman combined to pitch four more scoreless innings to complete the shutout. Gavin Lux, Logan Landon and Zach McKinstry each had two hits. Landon and McKinstry also homered for the Quakes. Friday’s night win was the Quakes 20th in their last 22 games.

    Class-A Great Lakes
The Loons were defeated 1-0 by the Clinton LumberKings (Mariners). Former Dodger prospect Ariel Sandoval hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to give Clinton the lead and eventually the win. Great Lakes pitcher Darien Nunez pitched three innings and struck out seven. Josh McClain and Brayan Morales each had two hits for the Loons.

    Rookie - Pioneer
The Raptors broke open a one-run game by scoring six runs in the eighth inning and beat Missoula Osprey (Diamondbacks) 11-4 to increase their division lead to two games. Six Raptors had multiple hits on Friday, Jacob Amaya, Dillon Paulson, Miguel Vargas, James Outman and Chris Roller each had two hits and Jeremy Arocho led the team with three hits. Austin Drury gave up the lead but ended up as the winning the pitcher for the Raptors.

    Rookie - Arizona League
The AZL Dodgers lost 10-8 to the AZL Mariners. Sam McWilliams went 2-for-3 with a walk and four RBI in the loss.

    Transactions

Triple-A: Los Angeles optioned switch-handed pitcher Pat Venditte to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City activated right-handed pitcher Tyler Pill from the 7-day disabled list.

Class-A: Right-handed pitcher Riley Richert assigned to Great Lakes from Ogden, Great Lakes placed right-handed pitcher Riley Richert on the 7-day disabled list. Right-handed pitcher Gerardo Carrillo assigned to Great Lakes from AZL Dodgers.

Rookie: Right-handed pitchers Ricardo Hernandez and Orlandy Navarro assigned to Ogden from AZL Dodgers.

Haven't seen anything from Farmer that makes me believe he could be an everyday catcher but I'm rooting for anyone to displace the idiot we currently have behind the dish.

I believe your org always needs 3 MLB caliber catchers in your org, and Farmer is #3 for us. Next year he'll compete with Barnes and #3 will be Will Smith. It's weird how Grandal is a super streaky player who always ends the year in the same place... He's a streaky player with consistent year end totals. Will basically end the year as a very slightly above average hitter, good framing, not too exciting at throwing out players, bad passed balls.. A 2 win player.

I would've loved to see the Dodgers unload Grandal after his hot spring/early season.

The name Errol Robinson sounds like it was made for baseball... if this was 1918.

Dodgers Top 10 from BA is out today, it was free for like an hour and now it is behind the paywall. I read it on my drive home (yes I was driving empty country roads, I do not care and do not lecture me) so I will have to pull from memory and could def be wrong on order and summary....
    https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/2018-los-angeles-dodgers-midseason-top-10-prospects/
    1. Verdugo: He has tapped into power and has learned to take advantage of mistakes. More HR's are coming and is one of the best bats in MiLB.
    2. Ruiz: Defense and game calling has taken a big step forward. Bat has slipped, but still making lots of contact and this is normal for catchers.
3 Diaz: Skills have taken a dramatic step forward and they think he will be a top of the lineup bat.
    4. Smith: Club has tweaked his swing that has tapped into "enormous" power potential that had not been seen before from him. He has what it takes to be a star level catcher behind the plate, but could also become regular at 3B.
    5. D Santana: Change up improved after last years progress. Still seen as high end reliever, but could still be a starter.
    6. May: Implemented a cutter to his repertoire about a month ago which added another weapon to his growing resume. Velocity is up to 92-95 with 3 potential plus pitches, but still has some refinement.
    7. Lux: Bulked up in the offseason and his bat is showing the results. More power and improvement on the defensive side has scouts thinking he COULD stay at SS, but worries about arm have him likely going to 2B where his bat plays.
    8. Peters: Huge hole in his swing has been abused by AA pitchers. Works deep counts and needs to learn to punish mistakes early. Still has room to improve, a true 80 grade power and prowess to stay in CF has them thinking he is still a potential star.
    9. White: Came to camp battling injuries, but recent weeks has shown positive results after some tweaks by the coaching staff
    10. Alvarez: Looked phenomenal in spring training. Got hurt, tried to pitch through it and it was an unmitigated disaster. Showed 3 presently + pitches at camp and still has the skill set to make him dangerous if he could get his mechanics back to where they were.

JP Hoonstra headed up(over?) to Rancho last night to see Dustin May. Here was what he had to say
"Dustin May, still a Dodger, is tossing fastballs with ridiculous lateral movement. He just got a swinging strike on a fastball that started over the plate, broke more than a foot in on the batter's hands, and hit him on the arm."

I believe Dustin May had the highest spin rate in the minors last year. This dude has a chance to be a serious monster.

    - It looks like the Dodgers may have finally made the call to move Yadier Alvarez to the pen. Pitched 2/3 on the 14th and an inning last night. Walks are still a major issue, but this is going to be important to watch. If he can work the kinks out, he is very much in the September conversation.

    - 3B Miguel Vargas was a guy to watch in the eyes of some prospect folk coming into this season. The 18 year old Cuban started out in the AZL, put up great numbers for a week and then was quickly sent to Ogden where he continued to kill the ball. Not hitting many HR's, but through 20 games between the two levels he has a slash line of .463/.527/.683 in 91 PA with 5 K's and 9 BB's. These are great numbers, but are not unheard of at these levels as many college guys come in and wreck, but an 18 year old doing it, is very impressive. He is going to be interesting to watch.
