    @BigDaddyKaine
My dad, grandpa, great uncle and countless others in my family are/were electricians. Kind of our thing, although I didn't catch the bug.
Funny @LAdiablo mentions crawling in attics/under raised foundations...that's why I was like.."nah". lol
Solid trade, though. Pretty much every electrician in my family ascended to the upper-middle class or beyond.
They all worked for themselves or each other and running the business is an added challenge. But I don't think you're looking to start or run a business until way down the line, if ever.
If you can find someone willing to train you in lieu of or concurrent with your classroom training, you should be on your way.
Best wishes and I'll be praying for forward progress in your endeavors.

    this is sound advice bdk
i used to work for a buddy doing electrical work
huge difference between new construction vs repairs too
i've encountered huge rats, spiders and snakes doing repair work
and it's no picnic if you have any confined space/claustrophobia issues
it's a good trade though and electricity (at least for the foreseeable future) is something where there will always be demand
can be pretty good pay too if you play your cards right

Use your 21k to get yourself a job that will take you 3 months to complete and pay 21k.
Hire an immigrant with lots of electrical experience for 2k a month.
Hire an american jack of all trades for 2k a month.
    Rent a contractor's license for 2k a month.
Pay your guys half upfront as incentive.
You be the third man on the team working alongside either guy. That becomes your school by immersion while building your own business.
Hire guys with skill and experience who may not have a license for whatever reason and learn the skills an get experience.
Make a small profit and then repeat until you can get your own license.

If you want a license though I suggest small aircraft. They have good courses out of San Dimas and plenty of new money wanting to be ubered in the air.

Mariners' letter explains firing of Lorena Martin in court filing
Associated Press — 9 hours ago

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners say they fired high-performance director Lorena Martin this season in part because she created a hostile work environment and ignored recommended treatments for injured players issued by team doctors.

The Mariners' claims were revealed in a filing in King County Superior Court in response to Martin's lawsuit against the team filed earlier this month. The club's response was an eight-page, weeks-old letter originally filed in an attempt to have her situation settled in private arbitration, but it became public after it was attached to a motion filed by Martin's attorney.

The Mariners say unnamed employees warned general manager Jerry Dipoto last March that Martin was ignoring medical advice on treatment of injured players and that she was misrepresenting herself "as a medical doctor to other MLB teams' staff."

The team also said it received "overwhelming and accumulating" employee complaints about Martin.

Martin's wrongful-termination lawsuit claimed that she went to team owners John Stanton and Buck Ferguson and CEO Kevin Mather as far back as March to complain about alleged discriminatory treatment.

The lawsuit also says that several Latino players complained to Martin about feeling excluded and that Dipoto took midseason steps to deliberately undermine the progress and mental state of star pitcher Felix Hernandez.

The Mariners have denied all of Martin's claims.

"Martin's allegations of discrimination are not true," the Mariners' letter states. "No indication, much less evidence, of such was identified during the course of the independent investigation which involved personal interviews of approximately 20 individuals who were in position to know."

I was just gonna use their syllabus' to look up the topics myself. Figured it wouldn't hurt to get myself familiar with this stuff if I am looking to get into it.
Not really sure how I'd go about looking for ibew assignments or approved reading material

Yep. 110v is just a buzz, not fun but not too bad; 220v burns 'while' punching you in the chops. Industrial and 440v+ kills the sloppy on site so be aware. High voltage guys get paid extra but have one of the shortest lifespans so.. stick to lower voltages.
So true so true. I know two guys that hooked up with DWP/GWP who made themselves sweet careers, definitely paid for a nice family lifestyle. One, @LAdiablo's old buddy, just retired in style and now travels internationally, not cheap, and shares his adventures. Good for him.
I think the trick is to gain 'some' apprentice level skill and then hook up with a mentor to learn better/deeper. Then as soon as you reach 'journeyman' level hook up with ANY municipality you can find. Fair coin and far less stressful than trying to be a tradesman on your own ticket because the entrepreneurial sides takes a whole lot more skills.. not taught in any school.

This is great advice because ALL IBEW courses are 'recognized' and can be parlayed into other opportunities.

Thinking about this further I might offer in the theme of avoiding high voltage work is that 'low' voltage work, less than 110v, is becoming far more profitable. This is speaking to data wiring, network wiring etc. It's still running wires, assuring continuity, but are typically new installations and you're dealing with high tech.. which pays better on average because people are willing to pay more for tech.

Also, if it suits you, they offer CC classes in CAD drafting (AutoCAD), 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and other 'office' style vocations. These too pay better, particularly the 3D CAD stuff since that field is just blooming. It takes a certain mindset to like this stuff but the pay has been better than average and it's not going away.

okay a bit to process here
should have probably sued burger king initially and worked out some type of deal
surely could have gotten something for your inconvenience and alleged injury
because if it's not on paper...
but to me the biggest problem is the arithmetic
dude is 50 and thinks he's going to live to 72 eating a whopper every day?
    good luck with that bruh

Man sues Burger King for reneging on free food for life promise
by Mark Osborne and Matt Zarrell | Good Morning America — 4 January 2019
    [IMG]
A man in Oregon is claiming Burger King is definitely not letting him "have it his way."

Curtis Broomer says he was cheated out of free Burger King meals for life and he's not happy about it. So unhappy, in fact, that the 50-year-old filed a lawsuit this week asking for $9,026.16 -- the exact amount he and his lawyer say it will cost him for a Whopper meal a week for the rest of his life.

Broomer claims both negligence and breach of agreement in the suit against Burger King Corporation.

The fast food connoisseur's plight began at the Burger King location in Wood Village, Oregon, on Dec. 15, 2018, when he came in for a meal. All went well until he stopped in the bathroom before leaving the restaurant and found he could not get the door open to exit the restroom.

"After repeatedly pulling hard on the door handle without success, Mr. Brooner took out his phone and called the Burger King number listed on his receipt," the lawsuit, filed in Multnomah County on Tuesday, states. "Burger King employees repeatedly tried pushing on the bathroom door but were unable to open it."

It only went downhill from there for Broomer. An employee slid a flyswatter under the door to help him jimmy the lock open, but it only resulted in Broomer cutting his hand, the lawsuit says.

"Despite eventually cutting his hand attempting to use the fly swatter on the lock, the bathroom door would not open," according to the suit. "Mr. Brooner could hear Burger King employees and customers laughing while he remained locked inside its bathroom for well over an hour before a locksmith finally came and broke him out."

According to Broomer, it was after he was broken free that Burger King employees offered him "a lifetime supply of Burger King meals at no cost."

He returned to the restaurant and the employees did indeed honor the commitment -- for awhile. His lawyer shared receipts from Dec. 16 and 18 in which his cost was covered.

But now Broomer says the fast food giant has reneged on the handshake agreement and he's asking for just over $9,000 in retribution. Should BK's lawyers "argue no legally enforceable agreement was reached," the lawsuit states, Broomer will pursue "compensation for his injuries."

"It's the principle, the jury is going to enjoy it," lawyer Michael Fuller told Portland ABC affiliate KATU. "There are funny elements of the case, but there is nothing funny about being locked in a dank bathroom for an hour."

The total is very deliberate, according to the lawsuit, which states a Burger King Whopper meal goes for $7.89 and assuming Broomer lives to 72 years old -- 22 more years -- the exact cost would be $9,026.16.

Madonna responds to butt implant rumors
    by Suzy Byrne | Editor/Yahoo Entertainment — 4 January 2019

Madonna appeared to address the controversy about her seemingly bigger backside.

In an Instagram post Thursday, the music superstar, 60, wrote that she’s “Desperately Seeking No Ones Approval” and is “Entitled to Free Agency” over her body — “Like Everyone Else.” She ended with the hashtags “no fear” and “no discrimination.”
The sharp comment follows speculation — started after her New Year’s Eve surprise appearance at Stonewall Inn in New York City — that she had cosmetically enhanced her butt with implants or injections. Instagram account @theshaderoom posted a video of her onstage at the iconic gay establishment, and the internet went crazy theorizing about why her backside appeared fuller. (Ex. “She went to the same doctor as Kim Kardashian.”) Unsurprisingly Madonna’s representative didn’t respond to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment on the topic.
Madonna and her 13-year-old son David Banda took the stage together at Stonewall Monday to help the venue mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots during the establishment’s New Year’s Eve bash. The songstress delivered an inspirational speech about gay rights and fighting for what you believe in. On Friday, she posted another video going behind-the-scenes before the show.

Madonna is no stranger to controversy, of course. But last August, she was in the headlines again after causing a fuss with her tribute to Aretha Franklin at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. During her time on stage, she barely mentioned The Queen of Soul, who had passed just prior from pancreatic cancer, and she talked mostly about herself. She later clapped back at the criticism.

Madonna, who has been living in Portugal with her younger four children, will release a new album this year. It will be her 14th studio album and her first since 2015’s Rebel Heart.
