^He has no position, probably the worst defender in baseball today. DH written all over him IMO.

Instead of showing the Yankees and Red Sox every fucking night, it'd be nice if ESPN would show a game like A's-Giants.

That team would be terrifying for anyone to face in the World Series.

our starters have the lowest era in all of baseball
    by far
with a dominating .652 winning percentage
it is us they should all be fearing...

My only worry is our offense and how bad it can be. Theirs is much more consistent and I would fear losing one run games.

and, taking it a step further...
to get an idea of how good our starters, as a whole, have been
subtract zack's numbers and our era (3.12) still ranks 2nd in all of mlb
    subtract kersh; (3.25), 5th (tie)
    subtract both; (3.43), 7th

now while i realize its unfair to subtract and not add others
and that era isn't the catch all barometer of success
    it's still pretty impressive
    especially with haren's inconsistency

    ESPN.com news services -- 30 minutes ago

Miami Marlins general manager Dan Jennings told USA Today Sports that he will not trade either of the team's best hitters, reiterating the club's stance that Giancarlo Stanton won't be dealt while also claiming that Casey McGehee isn't available.

Stanton, who leads the National League in home runs and RBIs, has been unable to reach a long-term deal with the Marlins and has been the subject of trade speculation throughout this season.

But the Marlins have refuted any trade rumors involving Stanton, and Jennings supported that position to USA Today Sports, which interviewed several general managers ahead of baseball's July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Jennings also said that the Marlins aren't going to trade McGehee, who entered play Tuesday with a team-leading .322 batting average and 53 RBIs.

"He ain't going nowhere, either," Jennings told USA Today Sports.

Stanton, the Marlins' lone representative in next week's All-Star Game, is batting .305 with 21 homers and 62 RBIs this season. The 24-year-old outfielder will be eligible for free agency after the 2016 season.

McGehee signed with the Marlins this past offseason after playing in Japan last season. The 31-year-old third baseman is one of five players in the Final Vote for the NL's last All-Star roster spot.

    i feel dirty saying this
but i agree with the giants announcer 100%
    :kickgiants:

Giants broadcaster says Angel Hernandez does not belong in the big leagues
by Craig Calcaterra | NBC Sports Hardball -- July 9, 2014

Angel Hernandez, widely considered to be one of Major League Baseball’s worst umpires, had home plate duties in last night’s Giants-Athletics game. And he was pretty much Angel Hernandez.

Based on the tweets, comments and blog posts of folks who watched the game, Hernandez had his typically inconsistent and wide-to-the-right-side strike zone, causing pitchers and hitters from both teams to shake their heads in frustration. Then Hernandez went to his signature move, turning a merely poorly-umped game into a game with an umpire-player confrontation.

Hernandez called an extremely questionable balk on Jean Machi in the eighth inning. Machi was upset and started yelling at Hernandez. You can watch the overall argument here. One thing you can’t see in that video — but which was relayed by several second accounts such as this one — is that catcher Buster Posey attempted to get between them and calm the situation, only to have Hernandez yell, “Don’t push me” at Posey, as if Posey were actually trying to escalate, rather than defuse the situation. Bruce Bochy argued for a long time, using a lot of colorful language, but did not get tossed. Which, oftentimes, is the sign of an umpire who actually realized he messed up and is letting someone blow off steam.

After the game, Giants announcer Duane Kuiper was unusually frank but 100% honest in his assessment of Hernandez, saying “Angel Hernandez is not a good umpire and, in my opinion, he does not belong in the big leagues. And I think Major League Baseball knows this, they just don’t know how to get rid of him.”

He’s correct about that. Perhaps if more people closer to the game such as broadcasters and influential folks in the media were more willing to say this as frankly as Kuiper did, Major League Baseball would do something about it.

When it comes to Angel Hernandez, everyone can agree how much of a cunt he is. No matter what team you support.

Yeah I was watching last nights game and TBH he was being an absolute dick to the Giants. It seems like he picks a team to hate on at the start at each series and is an instigative asshole.

    worse than that
    he's a horrible umpire
and seems to take pride in being an adversary
no surprise that his mentor was joe west
both of these ckunts have no place in baseball

Don't feel dirty because you agree with the SF announcer...not only is he fucking stone right, they are the best or near best announcers out there
in announcer land. Very good ,tell it like it is, and always give credit to the other team when appropriate. And it is true, I reason, that if the umps were so good (as Vinny tells us they are annually multiple times), why the hell have 318 calls been reversed to date, by the review now in place. That's piss poor, and goes to show you the bullshit BB has had to put up with. Good for Kuiper.
I remember Vinny saying that Coors Field is a joke, and should not be a stadium where pro BB is played. Hard ass from Vin, but good.
I have been a Giant hater since I discovered lemon ice, but ya gotta give credit where credit is due.
Hernandez is a confrontational hack, who enjoys his reputation; he thinks it makes him powerful, IMO. he's too stupid to know how ill thought of he actually is universally.
I also add that if there was any leadership from HoF manager, Joe Torre, who is in charge of these egotistical clowns, this might not happen all the time.
Probably too busy looking for Proctor or some other poor bastard pitcher, to end his career early. Some way, somehow...like a vampire seeking blood.

Yeah, sadly, I like the Giant announcers also. Have to give credit where credit is due.
