Wow! Great move by the Red Sox. I don't know what the A's have in their back pocket, but I'd say it's a head-scratcher if I'm an A's fan.

So, we know the A's have pitching, but do they have an offense that won't get shutdown by October pitching?

Yup, hard to judge their offense using basic stats because of that stadium but their lineup has been tops in the league. Losing Yoenis obviously hurts but Gomes isn't a huge downgrade. Melvin is really good using matchups and they have some good offensive players on that squad.

Rooting for the A's from the other side though. Better then the Angels (although I do like a lot of those players on that team, the fans.. UGH), Yanks, Tigers making it far. Plus the A's doing well would make the Giants angry so plus plus

It's going to be funny when Lester re-signs with the Red Sox next year.

That's a pretty damn good rotation though.

It's a smart move. They don't necessarily need Yoenis, and they just added another good arm to their rotation.

    Dodgers Trying Hard For Benoit
By Tim Dierkes [July 31, 2014 at 11:37am CDT]

11:37am: The Dodgers are “fully in” on relief help and have the most interest in Benoit, tweets Sherman.

11:15am: The Dodgers are trying hard to acquire Padres reliever Joaquin Benoit, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Yesterday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported the Dodgers and Yankees were in on the 37-year-old reliever.

Benoit, who assumed the Padres’ closer role after Huston Street was traded to the Angels, has a 1.88 ERA, 10.7 K/9, 2.7 BB/9, 0.63 HR/9, and 38.1% groundball rate in 43 innings this year. He’s owed about $2MM more this year, plus $8MM in 2015. Benoit also has an $8MM club option for 2016 that becomes guaranteed with 55 games finished in 2015, which likely wouldn’t happen with the Dodgers given the presence of Kenley Jansen.

reality is the A's are in the same division as the Angels and while they both are in good shape to make the playoffs one will be a wild card and one game and out. Lot of pressure to win and have the best record in the league. No ability on the horizon to rest folks in Oakland during the month of September. We need to build up our lead and be able to rest pitchers especially at the back end for the playoffs. Lot of cards are off the table now in the Price Derby so Tampa Bay may have to be more realistic in price if they really want to move him. That may help us especially if we include Pederson. We have the pieces especially if we think Guerro can become our left fielder either in a platoon or alone.

I'm amazed we did nothing. I really don't think we needed to, but still.
