Cubs are calling up Jorge Soler. Bryant probably at the start of next year with Addison Russell not far behind, Future could be hitting them sooner rather than later.
3B Russell SS Castro 2B Baez 1B Rizzo LF Bryant RF Soler CF Alcantara, That is a solid, young core.

Yeah, that's the way I see it. Unless there is a major disturbance in the force I don't see the GuggenGods going to the hip for another starter. They'll go with Kershaw, Grienke, Ryu, and whatever else sticks. No Martin because (a) he's going to regress, everyone knows it (b) he burned his bridges with the Dodgers when he admitted he dogged it his last season, the fans won't forget, and (c) he's gonna get WAYYYYYYYYY overpaid. And of course Ramirez is 50/50 because he's (in Koufax's words) 'brittle'. Even if he plays every game the rest of the year he's gonna average a little over 100/season for the last two years. How much are you going to pay for that, and for how many years? If he would (and I doubt it) take a big deal heavily dependent on incentives then I could see a deal, but the facts are we have too many options in the infield to risk a big money deal on Hanley only for him to sit in the training room.

My fearless prediction for spring of '15:

AJ is the primary backstop - get used to it.
The 4th and 5th rotation spots will be Haren (who vests), Hernandez/Corriea, with an outside chance of Bills/Beckett. Zach Lee will be traded in the offseason.
SS will either be by committee or someone not named Hanley Ramirez will step up and win the job (at least to start with).

 

AJ Ellis is older than Russell Martin. I hate all of your predictions. this front office hasn't shown any indications that they are going to let any of that happen. Correia better not be on this team. same with Haren. Your predictions are 100% worst case scenario

 

Age has got nothing to do with it.

I'm merely stating what I see as likely to happen. So the best case scenario is that I'm wrong. I can live with that.

Honestly this isn't far from what I imagine. I do feel like there will be a run at Lester since he won't cost any draft picks (don't really get why but other people have mentioned this). Whether we win the race for him is a whole other story. I tend to agree on Martin but with the lack of options maybe the Gugs will go for it. It wasn't them that he shunned and I think we all sort of shunned that ownership in one way or another. I know I did towards the end and I'm a die hard. As for HanRam, he's done here in my opinion. I honestly love the guy. His bat is amazing when he's healthy and I think his personality is fun loving and easy going. Not sure where the clubhouse cancer shit came from in the past but his glove is atrocious and with slick fielding Arruebarrena as well as the big bat of Guerrero mixed with a side of Rojas, why drop 120MM on HanRam just to move him to 3b where every hot shot ever will be a base hit. I don't know, just seems like a long shot since he didn't blow us away with his offense this year. That said, if a contract is announced for him I'll have a big smile regardless of it's value cuz I like him.

Other notes:
AJ - primary Kershaw backstop
Haren - Limit him please. Especially the Sept. 9th game as I'll be there. Possibly resign in the offseason for much much less.
Hernandez/Corriea - No thanks unless it's Hernandez on a Maholm deal.
Bills - I'd take a chance here if he's healthy by spring and willing to sign a reasonable deal.
Beckett - Watching him come back was fun. Maybe...maybe...

 

And we have a 4 game series there the second to last week of the season.

He has been playing independent ball for the St. Paul Saints. He's still grinding, trying to get back in to minor league ball. Unfortunately, that's highly unlikely.
