Is there no end to human idiocy?...

Performance artist Pyotr Pavlensky stages protest at 'apathy, political indifference and fatalism of Russian society'

Red Square has seen a lot over the centuries, from public executions to giant military parades, but a performance artist broke new ground on Sunday when he nailed his scrotum to cobblestones in a painful act of protest.
Pyotr Pavlensky said the protest was his response to Russia's descent into a "police state" and was timed to coincide with Police Day, which Russia's law enforcement officials celebrated on Sunday.
"The performance can be seen as a metaphor for the apathy, political indifference and fatalism of contemporary Russian society," Pavlensky said in a statement. "As the government turns the country into one big prison, stealing from the people and using the money to grow and enrich the police apparatus and other repressive structures, society is allowing this, and forgetting its numerical advantage, is bringing the triumph of the police state closer by its inaction."
Pavlensky has a history of self-harming art, including sewing his lips together to protest against the jail sentences given to members of Pussy Riot and wrapping himself in barbed wire outside a Russian government building, which he said symbolised "the existence of a person inside a repressive legal system".
The leading Russian theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov wrote on his Facebook page that the performance was a "powerful gesture of absolute despair".
Pavlensky walked on to Red Square on Sunday lunchtime, stripped off and nailed his scrotum to the cobblestones of Russia's most famous public space. He was taken to hospital an hour later and given basic treatment for his injuries but declined to be admitted. He was later taken to a police station.
Pavlensky is due to appear before a district court in Moscow on Monday over the stunt and could be jailed for up to 15 days.

Darwin would have voted if he'd of gotten run over by a Lada Nova while nailed in place...

The only art that has ever made change has been this type of.performance art.

    What would be their objection
Sacrifice is the only art that brings change that endures
A lot of art is inspirational, and a lot of it is about way more than entertainment
Art has to have a point or else it's fine art and fine art is pop music for the fine of breeding
I like inspiring entertainment too, and while of course they are all artists and the produce moving art, it's still art as entertainment.
The art that is truest is the art that is realest.

    that is a mere delusion
spoken by those seeking an ascetics life

    your later points are solid
particularly that "fine art is the pop music of fine breeding"
    a well turned phrase

but EVERY artist would claim a sacrifice
if nothing more than their time.

I gain near equal amounts of pleasure closely investigating a Manet or Rembrandt or snorting with derision at some moron that nailed his testicles to a boardwalk. What a moron. this brings a smile and but only for that smile his can be called art at all. Whereas the fact that he is an attention whore who still lives with his mother does nothing to inspire any enduring change...

except the enduring change to my browser history seeking other images of morons who nail there testicles to things

Time sacrifice is no sacrifice at all
Asceticism has nothing to do with sacrifice, unless you just like to suffer
Its not like the hermits in the movies, Of course there are always posers

Sacrifice like that dudes is about drawing attention from people who like watching videos of nut shots and torture porn to the realities of the big red machine coming back online
See the msm barely covers the imperial overreach of Russia because it's like the US and we are in a state of open cold war again.
I threw in the msm bit for Diablo :)
But making it a shot of a guy taking iron to nad gets you on the front screen of the msm at least online
