I don't know who this Greinke guy is but I'd definitely vote for Zeinke to win it. Would love to see both win obviously but I think Zack has been so damn good this year. So has Kershaw and I could see the voters giving it to him if he gets to 300 k's. Just give Zack the MVP and Kershaw the Cy Young for fucks sake!! :D

I was looking at fangraphs, sorry. They used different equations (don't ask lol)

According to Fangraphs (which most people use) Kershaw leads the MLB in WAR, FIP, and it's not even close. He's on pace for 300 K's, which who was the last lefty to do that, RJ? He's been better.

Nothing against Zack. I love all he's done, but if we're going on stats besides ERA, it's CK. Hitting shouldn't factor into the Cy Young. Never has.

Kershaw has been better. Greinke will win. I don't give a shit, they're both awesome and the biggest reason why everybody counting us out is fucking stupid.

It's irrelevant to the voters, but whoever doesn't suck dick in the playoffs. Individual achievements are good and all, but the guy who brings us a WS I would give Miss Universe to.

fangraphs war is based closely on fip while baseball reference uses a dif formula. FIP isnt the end all be all stat but its the one that solely uses what a pitcher controls...And ITS CK BY A MILE.....FIP is basically a tool stat to figure where a pitchers true era should be at based on what they control.Greinkes 2.62 fip suggests he been a lil lucky and his era should be closer to 2.40-2.70 range while CKs fip 2.10 suggests hes right in the range where he should be era wise , maybe a case can be made hes been unlucky and should have a lower era ....either way both have been dominant...CKs peripherals are better tho and should edge him in the cy young race... but old school thinkers vote so greinke should win it barring a greinke collapse or another ck scoreless streak

    Yeah pretty much this

aside from era kershaw is pretty much superior in most categories. In the most lay of explanations, fg bases its war on peripherals and br does so on era/runs allowed and shit.

At the end of the day, if season ended today it'd go to greinke.
Personally I want kershaw because dude can have a crazy resume. Should be his 5th straight cy young,
(4/5 ain't bad either) and if not for Harper, his 2nd straight mvp

I just wanna be able to say Clayton kershaw 12 time cy young winner instead of 11 time...

I think it's debatable, whose been better. All things considered I think it's CK by a hair, but I think Greinke's closer than the advanced numbers say he is. There is something to be said about having an ERA in the mid 1's.

gotta say, i love all the advanced stats you guys bring to the equation
gives us a lot more to contemplate than just the basics (era, batting average, etc)
but i wonder if we can sometimes over-analyze a situation
like vrp said, there's something to be said about having a <2 era
and while i realize wins are not necessarily a valid measurement of a pitcher's success...
zack has had 8 no decisions where he's gone at least 6 innings; gave up 2 runs once, 1 run five times, and no runs twice
imagine if we gave him four of those games
even with the understanding of the aforementioned wins/validity statement, 18-3 with a 1.61 era would look a lot sexier than 14-3... at least to the common fan and (perhaps) to the less-educated voters
    who knows
like i said, it's just really cool to have two pitchers with a legitimate shot to win the award

Yeah we tend to forget that Clayton had a shaky start and then got hot while Zack has brought his "A" game all year

For those that are saying they hope Kershaw wins it to add to his legacy, I would've wholeheartedly agreed with you at the beginning of the season. At this point, though, for Clayton to do that, it would require that Greinke cool off considerably. And I don't think any of us want that to happen. Basically, it's Zack's to lose.

Is this the greatest season by a 1-2 punch?

I cannot think of any that are better.
