A dominant pass rush can make the entire rest of the defense better.

I think Williams would be the "Mack Pick", a guy who if he falls to them (which I think could happen) would be a no brainer pick.

in that way, yeah, but JDR literally said they were looking for a guy who's similar to Mack in speed, athleticism, and ability as an edge rusher. they're moving to a hybrid 4-3 that looks alot like the 3-4, so it makes sense. they probably wanna be able to flip flop responsibilities on the edge and be versatile..JDR said Mack playing more DE would be a natural transition for him.

The NCAA is fucking disgusting. The vendetta, the malice, the fallacy in the report, which by the way is missing 200 pages which are likely the most incriminating...and also the emails are still not released are supposed to be the WORST, shows how corrupt and how the NCAA just wanted to hammer USC.

They had no evidence that USC was involved with anything or knew of anything. Two blow hard, loser, wanna-be agents paid Bush's parents rent for a couple of months so that he would declare early and potentially sign with them. As mentioned, no one knew or could know about that USC. Are you fucking kidding me? You call that lack of institutional control? The SEC has bag mans that are rampant and take "care" of the players and mostly star recruits. Ole Miss is the king of this and they are blatant. Yet, the NCAA turns a blind eye to it.

USC should the absolute shit of the NCAA and bankrupt their morally lacking institution and then sue the scum of committee members individually. It is pathetic and completely unjust what happened to USC and our piece of shit conference, everyone one of those teams, their administration and ADs and our commissioner sat by and did not have an ounce of support for USC even though they knew these sanctions were absolute BS. The Pac-12 wouldn't have got half of the TV deal they got if it wasn't USC football. Fuck them all. Fuck the NCAA. They will pay.

Even through the sanctions, we were ranked #1 preseason, went to 3 bowl games (every year we could) and had three 10+ win seasons. No one can hold USC back, no one. Now that sanctions are off, we only need one more full year (2016) to get fully back to where we belong. We already brought in the #1 recruiting class in 2015, the first season off the sanctions, and are ranked as a top-5 team going into this season. The end for the rest of the league and the entire FBS world is close. USC will sit on its throne once again and dominate.

    Fight On!!!!

If baseball doesn't want to keep taking the back seat to these other sports (at least in mass interest) the season needs to be chopped down to 120 games. Create higher demand for tickets (watching these Wednesday night games with empty stadiums and drone announcers into the dog days are bleh), increase the importance for each game, have the best players/pitchers on the field more often, turn it into a better TV show and stop going head to head on television with the NFL.

I know this is an unpopular opinion and it will never happen. I'm sure there are flaws in my opinion but that's all it is. An opinion.

there's more money than ever in the game of baseball. they're fine. they're not about to move to 120 games and alter the fabric/history of the game on an official level..the old guard won't allow it. you're right in that it won't ever happen.

Thats why i said in terms of mass interest. Obviously they arent hurting. They are a 9 billion dollar company or something like that. And since regional TV contracts are signed that's a whole other can of worms stealing programming away.

But baseball would be more popular nationally and more exciting if it were this way, imo. And that was my point. More packed houses on national tv with more meaning to each game. Entertainment wise it is better for grabbing more interest.

Baseball needs to grab July, August and September by the balls with meaningful baseball.

but mass interest is exactly where baseball shines. Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Cuba, Canada, the DR and PR, all of south america, etc. baseball is popular enough. i get that your target is for it to get bigger on this nation's scale, but not owning this nation's interest isn't hurting them. honestly, no matter what they do..MLB won't be as exciting as the NFL/NBA. it's the fabric of the actual game that's the downfall.

To me, what is lacking is MLB marketing its stars. NBA does a FANTASTIC job with this. I mean, it markets a crap load of players. MLB is lame as shit in marketing its exciting players, and part of it also comes from MLB players often being told to be quiet and not flashy, which subdues them and makes them hard to market. The game itself is also limiting in its marketing abilities since in an entire 3 hour game, you get to see the best position players for like 4 ABs and a few defensive plays. That's like what, 15 minutes?

Anyways, back to my main point. Marketing these dudes in commercials more, getting their face out there in fun ways, THAT brings popularity.

I also think that to get more youth wanting to join baseball, show off and show how baseball players get more money compared to the other games. Maybe that's a bit dirty and harder to do, but would bet that if younger people started realizing at a younger age, or if parents did when teaching there kids, that baseball gets you a fairer paycheck when compared to NFL/NBA, you get some more people enticed in the game.

That's just my rambling thoughts on the matter.

MLB is trying..they have the whole MTV/MLB show and the MLB Fan Cave, etc. they have more that they could do, but if you're aim is to be more exciting than the NFL or NBA..good luck. the game itself is not as fast paced, up and down, physical, team oriented, etc. it's just an uphill battle. baseball has always been more fun to play than watch for the casual fan.

the NFL gets all the hype, but the NBA has it all..worldwide acclaim as far as so many countries loving the game and following it and a purely exciting product with high flying athletes who are probably the most athletic players in the world.

using a Carl Crawford as an example here..here's a guy who could've played PG for UCLA or QB for Nebraska/USC/Florida/Oklahoma, but he admitted that he ended up choosing baseball instead because they showed him the money earlier than the NBA. i don't think the vast majority of inner city kids fully realize how much money is in the game of baseball..either that or you could say that at early ages kids aren't really focused on the monetary side. Crawford himself said he had an adviser who kind of steered him toward baseball and the longevity you can have in the sport..when Tampa showed him the money it was kind of a slam dunk to go with baseball. it might be up to parents and advisers..we're seeing parents steer their kids away from football nowadays, so we'll see the results of that in 10 or so years.

This is spot on, excellent thought and analysis

In regards to the last comment, that is entirely true. Obviously you don't want young kids thinking money is the reason they want to play. They should play because they like it--really they should enjoy anything they do/pursue. But parents should realize the reality of the issue and push baseball to their kids in a fun meaningful way, especially if they believe their kids have a future.

This is why I want my kid to play baseball. Baseball gives you the best opportunity to actually get paid. Forget basketball. It requires innate athleticism and measurables that only a few have. On top of that there's only 15 players max on a team = limited scholarships to D1 schools, limited playing time, seriously no chance to be in the nba unless a first round pick (lottery pick at that). Football also requires one to have incredible physical talent. Must fit certain criteria to even be considered (speed, agility, height/weight, arm length etc). Plus with all the injury concerns it's not exactly the best thing to pursue. Then you have baseball where there is no life threatening injury concerns, high guaranteed salaries, many scholarship opportunities, 40+ rounds to be drafted, doesn't necessarily require certain innate measurables. Of course some abilities are innate, in particular shoulder hip separation for pitching, but I think if an individual worked extensively on hand speed/hand eye coordination they could potentially achieve a level of play that would allow them to hit in the big leagues. When you look at the nfl most are physically gifted. The mlb, although it contains physically gifted individuals, you also see those who simply worked hard and made the most of their God given abilities.

So in summation if you want your kid to have a chance at a professional sport, put them in baseball
