I only watched a couple innings of the game yesterday, but I happened to catch the inning that caused Bellinger to get benched. From what I can tell, Roberts is wrong. Down 4-0 you don't try to stretch a leadoff double into a triple unless you are 100% sure you can make it. So I don't see what the beef is. And Cody got thrown out on a sick play by Crawford, not his fault, just dumb luck. Also worth noting, Blanco stretched a leadoff double into a triple in the bottom half of the inning, and that was absolutely the wrong baserunning decision. Roberts probably saw that as validation for taking out Bellinger. I predict the next 2 months we will constantly have issues with baserunners being too agressive... afterall, Roberts was the coach who encouraged our players to take huge leads off Lester and not run. The Dude has rocks in his head. When can Coach Utley take the reigns?
Yeah, no shit! Utleys pep talk netted us a good run before this last shitty relapse, didn't it? Cody being stranded out there forced Dave to leave him in on defense. I was watching it on my DVR to see what had happened, wondering if Dave had gone full cKunt by sending Muncy over to 1B with a mitt. Thankfully he hadn't.
I see, so he was taken out an inning later. WTF, so was the benching prompted by the bad baserunning by Blanco? That's even worse.
Not only that but it makes me think he was sitting there stewing over it and probably didn't focus 100% on the game, kinda like a texting driver. This was all about DAVE as some sort of power move. Mr Nice guy might be losing the clubhouse.
Maybe Dave is just mad that Bellinger is out there playing as if he had a manager in his ear telling him what the right baseball play is... and that manager is not named Dave. Bellinger made the right play. He was out there running the bases with his brains not just his feet.
okay we're all presuming it was (only) something on the field yesterday maybe dave asked him about it and didn't like the response or maybe it's been a problem brewing for a couple weeks i could jump on either side here tbh but since i've blasted dave before for not being a strict enough disciplinarian, i'm going to have to praise him for finally manning up a letting people know who's boss again, i don't know for sure that bellinger is/was dogging it... but the fact that he -- and seager, for that matter -- appear to have done nothing to remedy their ws woes (hitting that rhp breaking ball off their back foot) appears to speak volumes about their lack of commitment/focus/desire to get better/etc again, don't know anything for sure just saying we might not want to jump on the "poor cody" bandwagon until we know a little more...
http://insider.espn.com/blog/buster...iants-should-consider-a-bumgarner-blockbuster Give the Giants an offer they can't refuse, even if it is the Dodgers. Madbum is a 1 year rental possibly and they will lose him for sure as there is no reason for him to stay on that team with their future. Yadier Alvarez, Alex Verdugo, Keibert Ruiz, Mitchell White, Dustin May + the blue balls package of Logan Forsythe and Pedro Baez They might throw in Longoria and Tony Watson as well to get under those contracts. Start dumping salary that is not part of their Posey Posse.
Didn't phrase that properly. Meant to say if this action prompts Bellinger to pout, then fuck him. I don't think that will be the case. Bellinger mentioned another play a few weeks ago where Roberts questioned his effort. It was on a pop fly down the left field which Bellinger said he thought was going foul. It was fair and instead of an easy double, he only made it to first.
Kennedy was on the radio saying CB held the bat and trotted 3/4 of the way to 1B and then half-assed it to 2nd. Others confirmed it before he went wide with the statement to be accurate.
he is also a company man nobody in the org is going to go against the manager specially when its this blatant it was a difference in tactics bellinger said that he read the situation after hitting the ball a putting in pedro baez as much as he does is tactical using cingrani all the time killing his arm so early in the year is tactical but i would argue that dave is failing to hustle with his mind he is dogging it by not learning from his mistakes yeah he is a young coach that does not know all the angles and alleys yet he takes it out on bellinger for not taking advantage of something veterans know as triples alley
When asked why he benched Cody, Roberts referenced that play. Which was the right play to make. When Cody was asked about it, he said exactly why he stopped at second. A heads up play, really no other way to interpret it. I don’t care if Roberts disciplines Jesus Christ himself, but doing it for that? Not good.
