I just researched and it appears that his contract is through 2017 though his head doesn't sound into it if the McLaren Honda team can't provide him with a competitive ride. Hard to blame him, he's used to being up front fighting with the best and truly the Honda power plants have been shit this year
Well Alonzo only has himself to blame. He could have been driving for Ferrari, but F1 drivers are such ego maniacs. Right now with the rules, Mercedes just has too much of a technical lead to have any other team be competitive. Honda came up with an inherently flawed engine design and is only now beginning to get their act together. F1 is now under American ownership, and I'm guessing their "evolutionary" changes will be designed to even the playing field a bit, slowly but surely. I used to like it when Senna and Proust were fighting for each other on the same McLaren Honda V12 days. I miss those times. But I do think F1 has been boring for so long because the rules let one team to dominate for so long.
