Seems like he has good stuff when he does pitches. But five years in a row don't lie. His body can't hold up to be a sp. He'd look expensive but good in the bully IMO.

hmmm let me try and see why you guys are so mad. did we

    1) trade a top prospect for him? no
    2) trade anyone for him? no
    3) take the spot of someone better? mmm no
    4) spend money that could have been better allocated? i dont think so
    5) spend money from your personal bank account? that would be something but no
    6) sign him to a Ned special three year deal? no

10 mill is a lot, but not what it used to be. we aren't done making trades, I don't think Ethier is on the roster when the season starts. we eat some money, but still shed like ~10 M for next year.

    relax

Would've preferred to hold onto haren. Also would've liked to wait a bit and see what was going on with kuroda and Kenta maeda. I'm not furious, chances are your #5 won't make or break your season. And Anderson seems to have talent but two injury plagued guy in our last two spots doesn't have me feeling super confident.

I don't really consider McCarthy "injury-prone" and Haren sucks. I don't see McCarthy as a "high risk" guy either. Oh yeah, and it's still December.

Haren doesn't suck. He'd be a solid if unspectacular #5. Both McCarthy and McCarthy (Anderson) are extremely high risk when it comes to health.

I don't have much of a problem with this signing, if Anderson can stay somewhat healthy, which is a question mark, but not a given, he can be worth that $10M easily.

This is what big market money teams should be cleaning up on, low risk high reward guys.

I just get nervous when you give a long term contract to players who are supposed to fufill a job. I classify a #4-5 starter as a guy who can give you innings and rest the bullpen. Doesn't have to be a quality start each time he goes out...but I would like him to give the club innings. What consistent evidence do we have that McCarthy is that guy? Besides the fact he is pro as shit at MS Paint?

Maybe I'm wrong, but it's really the only move I haven't been comfortable with.

Anderson signing could really work. I love the incentive package they've given him and if it doesn't it's just one year.

yea, Haren more than likely would've been a fine #5. we all saw him hold the fort down in times of need..he sort of went above and beyond as a back end guy last season.

that said, at least McCarthy and Anderson have potential at the back end. 50/50 chance that McCarthy gives us 170-190 innings, but the big thing is he's throwing his cutter again and missing bats. i remember a good amount of us wanted to see Haren out of the bullpen this past post season..well, if McCarthy can hold up, there's a good chance that we could see him out of the pen come October. he has that kind of stuff, so he might be of help there ( if we need it). they still need to show me a Clippard trade though..i'll be happy with getting the douche Papelbon as well.

Well it's good to know what month it is and all and thanks for the physical advice and that. But December turns into the other months, and the season begins and before you know it, it's the end of summer. So, in all the Decembers for many years, as time passed, the result are always the same. What we do in Dec. is what we have on the field in October, isn't it? Do you have a rebuke for that fact in your numbered responses ?
And I guess you have to like all the moves, and agree with all the maxi-posters, and then you're relaxed, Chris? If you don't like or have a good feeling about a trade means you're not relaxed? I don't pretend to be a big BB maven/genius like others are...I guess they are the ones that know it all and get paid for it. But WTF have they done lately...and by lately, I'm talking a quarter of a century. How do you know that money couldn't have been better spent on someone else? How can you know? It's your opinion right, like mine is mine.
Take money from my personal account? I've been posting that very same thing for years Chris-c'mon...and they did sign Ned (the LAD then) to a three year deal not too long ago, and we had to endure his BS all along...and I'm not so mad. That's spin. But I'm allowed to be disappointed right?
And I guess 10 mil isn't a lot nowadays, but damn, that's more than I make in 18 months
It'll all be the same in the end anyway. The LA season always winds up very relaxing when we watch the Giants play. Boring is relaxing.

It seems like on here can't be disagreed with without some form the "why are you mad and relax" response.
OK, lets's all think the same way... see what the difference is in the end.

Does it ever occur to you that repeating the "flogging a dead horse" response is exactly what you're doing , too?
    Nah...I guess not..

Really? Because thats exactly what it sounds like you are doing when you whine and moan about the deals that have been made. Would you rather us have traded Ether instead of Kemp for Grandal? Sorry, not gonna happen. Would you have rather us have traded our low level prospects for Ian Desmond instead of Jimmy Rollins? Thats not how it works. I don't think you understand the good that has been done in the last couple weeks. The only people who don't think the Dodgers got out of the Winter Meetings with a steal are old-fashioned Dodger fans who have not adapted to the new ways of how business is done and how you win (Plaschke) , or young ignorant dodger fans who get too attached to their favorite players and cry when they go to another team.

So what? So, I'm an old fashioned Dodger fan... you're going to spout about the "winning ways" BS to me....based on what? What have we won recently? Unless the division is the prize....then I'll admit I'm wrong.
Would I rather have that trade Ethier for Grandal that you mentioned...of course I would. Anyone who doesn't is dumb. But everyone knows you can't get something good for shit...even me. Ian Desmond? WTF are you talking about? I never mentioned Desmond...
There's plenty of other people who don't like it either. That's their (and my) right if I don't, whether you like it (or anyone else) or don't. You're going to teach me how to feel or what kind of fan to be? Uh-huh. Agree with us or die? Should I worship Allah, too?
It's comical that you come at me for whining when they haven't lost yet, yet you write a response that has them as winners already. Hipocritical much?
Where does it say I have to be like you? Or anybody else? Maybe I don't understand "the good" that's been done in the last weeks; maybe it will be revealed...and maybe they'll suck elephant penis like so many other Dodger deals have in the recent past.
If they work out, that will be great if it gets us to the WS, and I'll say so...but you know what's going to happen, do you?
You're just as wrong or right about this as I am, no better , no worse. Ignorant is as ignorant does, pal.
You only think you're better, but you're not.

    here's the thing guys
disagreeing is normal in almost every walk of life
people tend to see things differently, whether it be by predisposition, statistical data, self-righteousness or whatever else
no different on a sports board
in fact, it's oftentimes what makes the discussions so passionate and interesting
here's the thing though, and bluezoo is right...
there is no reason to demean someone just because you disagree with them
make your argument, state you piece, and then leave it at that
i know that's easier said than done, and i too am not immune to it
but just try not to remember we're all fans of the same team and we all want the same thing
    carry on :irish:
