    Jesus fucking Christ man why?

Hopefully they're just being extra cautious with their MRI's these days. Maeda has had no major issues in the past, so hopefully just being cautious.

Maeda was quoted in Japan regarding the length of time it is taking to complete the contract.

    " 木名 美 見 外心
    火 左 北 今道 聞 強 飛
    名 美新 語 道
    見 外 成 空 明 静 海 雲
    新 語 道木名 聞 強 飛 "

More annoying than anything, but when the deal was announced to be so low and for so long, I kinda figured it had to do with a bad physical. Probably do not want to make the same mistake they made last year with McCarthy.

The Dodgers know that surgery is inevitable and that he has damage, but it seems like it is more that they had thought.

    Let's see what happens.

at this point you almost have to wonder if they're having second thoughts
    yeah it's only $3MM/per
but there's also the $20MM posting fee, and the [up to] 8-year commitment
plus, in the wake of iwakuma and [as you alluded] mehcarthy...

I'm a big fan of low risk-high reward...

    BUT....

Almost everyone in the rotation has significant health concerns/injury history. Kind of scary.

Obviously any arm can blow at any second..even "healthy" pitchers...but damn I'm at least a tad worried.

Mccarthy, Ryu, Anderson, Maeda...not sure on Kazmir and Wood...

    Just a little freaked out.

yeah but the stability offered by Greinke or Price was already gobbled up by other teams

That's why depth is so important, and that's what they have created.

    Kershaw
    Kazmir
    Ryu
    Anderson
    Maeda
    Wood
    Bolsinger
    Frias
    McCarthy (upon return)
    Beachy
    Wieland
    Lee
    Cotton
    JDL
    Montas
    Urias

That's 16 options, that with one exception, are not reclamation projects (Beachy being the one who is).

Not liking that ESPN article I heard earlier today holy fuck can we catch a break?

Hopefully it's nothing significant until a couple years down the road

That's my thought, he has pitched no fewer than 175 innings since 2009 (and no fewer than 26 starts), and over 200 innings 4 of the last 6 seasons. He only has incidents of being pulled from a start due to elbow issues once in '13 (didn't miss next start) and '14 (missed one start after). But no incident in 2015.

    • Maeda will earn a base of $3 million in each of the eight seasons of his contract and can earn an additional $8.15 million per year beyond that sum, reports Yahoo’s Jeff Passan (links to Twitter). Maeda’s yearly bonuses kick in at 90 innings pitched, per Passan. From that point forth, he’ll earn $250,000 for every 10 innings up until 200 innings, according to the report. Maeda will also earn $1 million upon making his 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th and 32nd starts each season. Passan’s report leaves $150,000 of bonuses each year unaccounted for, so there are a few final missing details to Maeda’s exact contract structure. Ultimately, the contract can max out at a total of $90.2 million over eight seasons.

its great in how its paid out
the most fair contract ever in sports
if at your job they told you that you make a base salary of 2k a month but you get bonuses for things like not missing a day of work for a month or not being late or probably something more like doing your job exceptionally well
and that those bonuses would turn your 2k a month into anywhere from 2k to 8k a month depending on how well you do at your job?

My company actually does pay that type of bonus. For one quarter of perfect attendance the company will pay you for an extra day of salary. Doesn't sound like much but you can collect up to 4 days pay over the course of a year, just for showing up.

i used to work for a company that gave you 6 sick days and at the end of the year would pay you a days worth of salary for every sick day not taken
and if you didn't use any of the 6 they would pay you double (for 12 days)
4 years i had perfect attendence and reaped those benefits and they gave you the check at the annual xmas party
of course that was back in the 1980's and, shortly thereafter, they were bought out by a larger company that discontinued that practice... and then went out of business

I dunno, that kind of bonus sounds good, but I'm sure you had people showing up to work coughing up a lung. I know it would be hard to keep me out of work with a benefit like that. People show up to work sick too much as it is, I'm not really a fan of a program that encourages more of that.
