    i'd think that's worst worst case scenario. dude has access to all sorts of tools and people. only thing for certain is Mr. Mark has been fucking around thinking he was above it all. would suck if say Billie Jean and her wife stepped into the void somehow. can the team hold it together for one more before things get really weird is my question.

    That's why this 3peat is so important. Some may consider me greedy, but give me one more and I'm good.

    Mark Walter has been looking for cash to fund billions of dollars in loans for months, and he isn't just trying to sell his sports assets.

    According to @Ourand_Puck, Mark Walter engaged Charter Communications to see whether the company wanted to exit its local TV deals for the Lakers and Dodgers several years early in exchange for a lump-sum payment, but those talks went nowhere.

    The Dodgers currently have one of the best local TV deals in sports — 25 years, $8.35 billion for an average of $334 million annually — but Walter was willing to exit the deal early in exchange for upfront cash today.

    That's crazy.

    My guess: Walter is either going to sell the Dodgers or he's going to fuck them over in the long-term for short-term cash

    Hate to say it but there are some parallels between Walter and McCourt and their irresponsible asset management practices. These guys get so rich that they start believing that the rules that apply to the little guys don't apply to them. But they do, and on a much larger scale, and then their greed ends up burying them. It's actually laughable that such otherwise astute and successful businessmen make such extreme blunders.

    seems as though walters is far more complex of a web and i've just been trying to avoid all the screamer know it alls for right now. found this. on the face it seems he's spread to thin and is selling off assets in an attempt to shore up or survive what may or may not be impropriety.

    The Greeks called it hubris, and from owners like O'Malley, Finley, & Steinbrenner to Walter, John Henry, & Cohen ... they all have immense pride in their power & sway.

    Most of them all fall far one day. A few don't. No surprises to those of us who live month-to-month & would be unbelievably grateful to have an annual income that's half what these guys make in a week.

    mentioning the other owners, i wouldn't have the slightest doubt one or more dug up or pieced together the case the FBI is working on.

    passan responding to some assclown, and in the process crushing the dreams of dodger haters everywhere…

    @Vaughan1019
    You should at least acknowledge your own naivete in declaring that the Dodgers "cracked the system." That was the phrase that had most of baseball twitter roasting you. All you had to say was financial fraud does not equal cracking the system, but alas, your ego got in the way.

    @JeffPassan
    I have no evidence -- and no other media member has reported any -- that the Dodgers did anything that ran afoul of the CBA. Beyond that, the government is focused more on procedural questions -- the mismarking of affiliated investments and the web of companies under Guggenheim's umbrella -- than anything specifically related to the Dodgers. You are well within your rights to assume whatever you want to assume, and if you want to suggest there was some kind of fraud that specifically impacted on-field performance, you do you. I'm not going to do that because I have no idea how the money they received from selling the debt on their TV network, for example, was used. I wasn't being naive when I said the Dodgers cracked the system. They did. They recognized that cash is a grand separator in terms of securing talent and that CBT thresholds should be no impediment. You know who else did? The Mets. And they stunk. Every billionaire has access to cash. Not as much as the Dodgers, certainly, but if they want to get more capital to invest in their team, they can. They choose not to. And that is well within their rights, too, but to suggest that because Mark Walter is under investigation for one business' tactics that it automatically ties into another's -- with zero hard evidence showing that's the case -- is simply a case of you fitting what you think you know to a conclusion you already made.

    TWG Global, Mark Walter’s holding company, as part of a statement today …

    “The Dodgers have the highest revenue in baseball, and it significantly exceeds the team’s obligations to its players.”

    But that's a positive, right? If it was the other way around, I'd think Guggenheim would be more likely to want to get out.

    Also, no wonder the monster contracts are so ho-hum for them to issue. I agree with BDK's vision of some kind of cap.

    salary floor, yes
    owners should be motivatedforced to spend a minimum on their team and fined heavily if they don’t comply
    no surprise the only teams crying about wanting parity are the same teams refusing to open their wallets
    if more small market teams operated like the brewers, the alleged inequality would resolve itself

    as for a cap, completely disagree
    no one saiddid shit when the yankees were buying and acquiring players in the late 90s-early 2000s
    marvin miller and the players association were geniuses to give nothing back to the owners once free agency was established
    why should or would any organization give up leverage when they don’t have to?
    fuck that
