#Dodgers and Time Warner Cable agree to show final week of regular season games on KDOC (Channel 56) - free, over the air. Hallelujah.

Time Warner to show final six Dodgers' games free on KDOC http://lat.ms/1r00VPO...

Dodgers' final games will be televised

LOS ANGELES -- The last six regular-season Los Angeles Dodgers games will be televised on an independent station that will allow all local fans of the team to watch after they have been shut out for most of the year.

Time Warner Cable said Monday that it has reached a deal with KDOC, which is carried by every cable, satellite and telco provider in Southern California and can be received over the air with an antenna.

The Dodgers lead the National League West by three games over San Francisco. They will host the Giants from Sept. 23-24 and the Rockies from Sept. 26-28, with those six games being shown on KDOC.

Time Warner Cable chief operating officer Dinni Jain says the company will continue to work on long-term agreements with other providers during the offseason to carry SportsNet LA, which televises Dodgers games.

Only customers of Time Warner Cable, its partner Bright House Networks, and a small operator called Champion Broadband have been able to watch the Dodgers this season. That leaves out subscribers of major providers such as DirecTV, Dish Network, Verizon and AT&T.

The contract to broadcast Dodgers games, which had long been with Fox Sports' Prime Ticket regional sports network, was bought by Time Warner Cable last year in a deal estimated to be worth $7 billion over the next two decades.

    grateful for the telecasts

    that said...
this is just a nefarious, veiled attempt by twc to puff out their chests and try to make the other carriers (direct tv, et al) look like the bad guys
nothing you can do will ever make up for disallowing us to watch the dodgers this season
trying to don the white hat now -- at this juncture -- only re-enforces what self-serving, disingenuous pricks you are
so thank you and fuck you

Who has really disallowed you to watch the dodgers this year? The team that gave the team 8BILLION dollars or the carriers that refused to carry it for unknown reasons?

I don't blame TWC one bit in ANY of this, the blame rests solely on the shoulders of the carriers. I also want to blame dodger fans who have those carriers that refused to pick up the channel and didn't raise hell and cancel.

What did TWC do but give the Dodgers a fuckton of money and give them a platform to make more?

Directv is to blame here if they bought on the others would've followed and I personally canceled my directv after missing 20 games. If you have a service that didn't pick up the channel and you didn't cancel, you are to blame not TWC.

You all enabled directv and all the other carriers to take such a hard nosed stance.

Blame TWC? For what? Making the dodgers the richest team in the history of world sport?

    Yeah they're real bastards.

what, do you work for twc?
seems like you've vilified everyone except them
i've had twc in the past and, honestly, i like direct tv better... a lot better
why should we, the consumer(s), be inconvenienced and be forced to switch carriers?
twc has the product and is holding us fans hostage in their attempt to get maximum ransom price

Yeah I mean it really just depends on the asking price of TWC IMO. They paid a shit ton of money to carry the Dodgers games, so it makes sense that they'd charge alternative carriers a lot for the channel, however at some point TWC needs to realize they overshot the market. If it was an affordable price, you can bet your ass Direct TV and other carriers would've picked it up so they wouldn't lose customers. The fact that this is still going on though seems to tell me that the Dodgers aren't as huge of a demand by LA as everyone thought. Irish is right, people shouldn't have to be inconvenienced to switch carriers because TWC made a bad business move. Let me say that I'm not claiming to be a business major, just using common sense here lol.

TWC is notorious for horrible customer service. Unfortunately we don't know how much TWC wants to charge other providers but the Laker games are on. Cannot see why we shouldn't be watching the Dodgers as well. Well whatever happens in the future I'll take what I can get.

this is nobodys fault but mine.... is what yall should be singing
freedom of choice and all, yall have a choice to make
watching sports on tv is not a right its a privilege you pay for
we get free TV up the ying yang in this country and therefore yall are spoiled
your team is finally the team yall always dreamed of yet yall still bitch
bitches will always bitch until they man up
so dont be like little doggies bitching at the heels of the dudes giving you what you wanted
or do, it makes no difference other than to you
HBO or Viacom could do this kind of stuff, they done it before and people pay up because they want their MTV
but yall want money for nothing and the chicks for free

time warner should buy KDOC and air some games for free during the season as well as a daily dodgers show as a thank you to the working classes who fill the bleacher seats
Dodgers of Orange Country could be the new call sign for the DOC, and bring back the ghost of Wally George while yall at it.
invasion of the OC as payback for the stupid Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim junk.
LA Dodgers can turn Newport Beach into the new Vero Beach and watch the OC become Dodgertown.

    man its hot today

I don't want to get into speculation about details of which will never be revealed but...

If MLB has a broadcast package which lets the entire league have their games be available for broadcast and then any random cable provider makes a deal with MLB then they get to carry which ever game they want to show their regional customers.
    That apple carts rolls...
Until the Yankees and Braves stumble upon stupid money, purchase their own broadcast rights and decide the Yankee and Braves games shall be shown country wide. For free to anyone with ANY cable package that includes TBS..which ALL cable providers carry since Ted makes it cheap to do so...

And then the GG vulture bankers decide "Hey, I know" let's buy the Dodgers for a crazy amount of $$$ and then, wait for it... and then lets get the cable providers to actually pay 1000% of our costs to purchase the team.
LA Fan: Why would they do that?
GG Vulture Bankers: Because we'll sink temporary coin into the team by helping our wastrel bean town brothers out of their stupidly bad contracts and then the cable guys will pay them off too!
LA Fan: Cool but how are you gonna do that?
GG Vulture Bankers: We'll just make our own channel and 'license it' to them for 500% of what they pay for all other MLB teams combined!
LA Fan: Why would anyone pay 500% more just to see the Dodgers? ... hey let go of my short hairs!!
GG Vulture Bankers: Look... over there! Blame the rich cable guys... hey we're your friendly vulture bankers... see we brought you Becket and you got a No Hitter from him... you should be more thankful
LA Fan: what no hitter? I didn't see anything...
GG Vulture Bankers: Really you missed it? Well we saw it and it was almost as good of a gem as Kershaw's No Hitter, did you see that one ?
LA Fan: No you greedy @#&%@#&$ bunch of @#$(&#$@ I did NOT see that one either.
GG Vulture Bankers: Too bad. They were good games... Tell you what... since the season is nearly over now and those big bad rich bully's over at TWC won't pay us back 1000% profit on the money we spent, why don't we arrange for the last 6 games to be on some obscure channel for free. That will make it ALL better now won't it?
LA Fan: @#*&%@#&$#!@ Never would have thought uber greedy vulture bankers are a step down from that parsimonious prick McCrook... I'll just have to wait for highlights on Eastern Sports Programming Network... sigh...

It seems to me like TWC may have overpaid for the Dodgers rights. They get no kudos or pat on the back for that. What they paid is completely irrelevant to what they can charge other providers. Directtv could give two shits what TWC paid for it, the same as you could give two shits what your grocery store paid for the milk you want to buy, all you care about is what they want to charge you.

If TWC doesn't want to sell to Drecttv, I don't care. What I care about is that 70% of the L.A. market has no access to Dodgers games. None. If I could switch to TWC, I would. All TV providers are fucks, so I don't care which fuck gets my money as long as I get the programming I want. It seems like TWC could at least work out a contingent deal with Cox and Charter while they negotiate with the satellite companies. Cox and Charter don't compete directly with TWC, so even a small deal that they could pull at anytime would be free extra money, create better ratings for advertisers on SportsNetLA, and put even more pressure on Directtv and Dish. It doesn't help that TWC created a ton of bad will while selling the Lakers station. It's a bunch of fuckheads in a pissing match at this point.

So yeah, fuck TWC. It's easy to think otherwise when you are part of the 30%. I'm part of the 70%. Fuck them. And fuck the Dodgers for going the easy money route and giving up their TV rights. Fuck Cox. Fuck Charter. Fuck Dish. Fuck DirectTV. Fuck Fios. Fuck AT&T. Fuck KDOC. And most of all, FUCK TWC.

and none of that is from the perspective of hindsight
from the start folks decided to not care about who was buying the team
in roman times the word addict was the same as the word slave
the money guys know that eventually you will pay
thats why the indians over in northwest canada dont want to lease water rights to big oil who will make everyone in their tribe super rich
but then that is the end of their tribe because the next generation will be spoiled rotten and wont learn how to be an indian or care about his tribes collection of river systems
rivers the indians have cared for since they got there
these indians have the wisdom to know that if they sell out now they will be addicts and have no future other than slavery
if they sell out and then try to find their way back home what they will find is their rivers ruined and with nobody left who knows how to fish for fresh meat
and without fresh meat you slowly die out

If by 2015 they lift all black out restrictions, TWC is really fucked cause why not just add MLB.TV instead of switching to TWC? Then TWC is gonna have to lower their asking price drastically in order to get it on DirectTV
