nah. pitch framing's been around for a loooooooooong time. just because it's labeled pitch framing now and not receiving skills anymore doesn't mean that MLB is gonna go to new lengths to stop it.

also, it's not just stealing strikes. it too is getting strikes called on pitches that are actually strikes..which Ellis sucks at as well. nothin like having a 2-1 count, firing a legitimate strike in there, and then having your catcher blow the pitch because he's set up wrong or can't handle it well. the difference between a 2-2 count and a 3-1 count is monumental. it's the difference between winning and losing a lot of times.

people talk about " reality " and then somehow go on to express that " if Ellis did this, and if Ellis did that, nobody would mention pitch framing "..well, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride. the reality is that Ellis doesn't do and anybody that enjoys the finer points of the game would follow pitch framing/receiving skills regardless of whatever the fuck.

anyway, it's just good fun to see the craze over the " 26 years and waiting " when it comes to the last LAD WS title, and then go on to read about how the Dodgers are getting along without receiving skills at the catcher position. getting along to where?..i suppose that's only a question that's asked on certain occasions.

Wouldn't it would be funny if one of the game of the week networks started tracking balls called strike and the reverse with their strike zone graphics and gave a end of the game tally? I wouldn't of thought it would get much attention a few months ago but it seems that the discussion on sabermetrics has escalated and you even have a couple of GM's calling their teams real baseball teams. Never know what issues someone else might want to raise. Sorta like when you brag to much you can bring attention to yourself you can regret down the road.

Yes, I agree. Good thought there. Especially the last sentence...
Maybe it would help those of us who can't appreciate the finer points of BB.
    nah, doubt it...

You might find this funny as hell

Timothy Gay, an experimental physicist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who once wrote a book called “The Physics of Football,” with a foreword by Bill Belichick, the Patriots’ coach, said there was no doubt that a slightly deflated ball would be easier to grip. But he said his own calculations and Healy’s paper, a few details of which had previously leaked out, persuaded him that the weather could account for the pressure drop
So if Friedman and other Saber Guru's can use statistics to reshape baseball to their advantage why can't Belichick use Physics the same way in football?

I suspect physicist could build on sabermetrics and begin to explain the why of some of the statistics. What makes one pitcher more of a ground ball pitcher and another a fly ball pitcher. Wouldn't be surprised if future stadiums get built with a desired offense level per a structural design. I find it fascinating that Bilichick wrote the forward of a book called the physics of football. What else are the Patriots ahead of the curve on. I suspect when all is said done what Bilichick and Brady said at first will turn out to be accurate and within the rule or absence of rules. Did you know that the temperature of the air put in the ball will influence how quickly a ball deflated in cold weather? Air at 130 degrees will deflate quicker. Also some compressors pump air out at 130 degrees and I wonder if the Patriots have one of those and knew to buy it. No NFL reg on the temperature to use. Also the balls are all seasoned differently for different quarterbacks just like a baseball glove. Gotta wonder if that seasoning can impact the deflation rate. Just like the Rockies experimented with using a humididor to store balls in, the temperature a ball is at when inflated and exposed to the air makes a difference from what I am reading. All Bilichick had to do was give the equipment manager the book to read and say no more. How about sweat and the ability to grip and throw a baseball?
